Kale
At Webb College, I was their biggest sponsor, funding various sectors of the school. I ensured they had enough money for science experiments, sports, research and many more. This wasn't my first time stepping into the school. But this would be my first time going into the school to pick up my Luna.
"The file says she's supposed to have a class this morning at hall B. That's after this block, Alpha."
I was too busy looking at the students through my sunglasses and watching how they curtsied or bowed to me. Everyone was classy and they held themselves to high regards. It was obvious in the way they moved, walked or talked. My Luna would be perfect.
"Let's go." I gestured towards Logan and we walked down to the block where there was a sharp corner.
Before I could turn, I felt something sharp prickle my neck. I groaned, rubbing the spot. I took another step but it seemed like a mistake when I felt a tangy scent that travelled up my nostrils. It was too strong to ignore and too faint to notice what it meant.
"Are you okay, Alpha? I can bring her if you want while you wait at the garden."
I shook my head. What insolence!? Sitting around because of some slight trouble. It wasn't even worth being called a trouble.
We kept moving but the scent lingered and for some reason, I hoped it wasn't what I thought it was. My wolf stirred and began to groan.
I clenched my hands. Who could it be? How could this be? Getting a mate when I was just about to claim my Luna. Could it be that Phoebe Ray was my Luna and my mate?
When I would lift my eyes, I saw that a crowd had gathered. I was drawn to whatever had gotten the attention of the students that I couldn't just walk away. I stepped in and like flies, they dispersed.
In a circle, about six students stood, laughing and holding spray cans. They hadn't even noticed my presence. I looked down on the ground and whom I saw almost made me tumble.
Brown hair that was long and silky like a horse's mane, soft skin that was mostly covered in paint, school uniform that was now tattered and a broken dignity. Her eyes were the most beautiful ones I'd ever seen. A pair of green emerald eyes that held pain that wasn't from what was happening in that moment. It was like series of unfortunate events had brought about a pool of pain and sadness in those eyes and all I yearned for was to take them all away.
"Mate!" I heard my wolf say, biting at me and clawing to come outside.
I began to lose control, feeling the urge to take these students and tear them apart. I felt like I'd failed as a protector. Before the students would process my presence and get themselves together, I'd crouched beside the girl and pulled strands of hair off her face.
Her face was also covered in different colors of paint but she was still the most beautiful girl I'd ever seen.
As carefully as I could, I carried her in my arms. What a fragile little thing, I thought to myself as I lifted her with ease before moving through the crowds to the sick bay.
"Who is she?" I asked Logan as I paced the lobby, impatient and anxious.
"Her name is Leanna Schuler. She just got admitted into the school two weeks ago."
I rubbed my jaw thoughtfully, wondering why my mate happened to be the bottom of the chain in the school. Why was she being bullied? Why couldn't she stand up for herself?
"Who are her parents?"
Logan hesitated as he shifted on one leg. "She lost her father when she was just a cub, barely able to walk. And her mom is blind. She is here on scholarship."
"So, she's basically useless."
I turned around to look at the girl through the window. My wolf continued to claw at my nerves, urging me to go in there and comfort her. But I couldn't mark her or claim her since I'd signed the treaty without causing a war. Yet, I wanted her close to me. I needed her. My heart called out to her as she laid on the bed, her skin paled against the white sheet, her brown mane sprawled all over.
"Do you want her?"
That's a question I wasn't sure I could answer but my wolf sure wanted her with how restless it had been. I nodded, eyes still fixed on Leanna Schuler.
"Prepare to send a letter to Alpha Enzo and her mom. Leanna will be Phoebe's personal maid. She mustn't be far away from me."
Logan bowed for the last time and walked away. Then I decided to talk to my mate for the first time as soon as the last nurse exited the ward. I stepped in, hands dug in my pockets as I approached her.
Her eyes were wide and I couldn't tell if it was from fear or if she felt it too that I was her mate.
"You're the one who helped me. Thank you, Alpha." She muttered, her throat bobbing visibly as she swallowed hard.
I nodded and sat on the edge of the bed, still fixated on her captivating beauty. I let my finger trail the contours of her face, taking in her now relaxed pretty green eyes, her small nose, her pouted lips that looked deliciously red, her round face and skin that looked silky and smooth.
Her breath hitched when I cupped her face, leaned in closer until our faces were almost touching and began to sniff.
"Mate! Mate!" My wolf continually growled.
So I wasn't mistaken. Leanna Schuler was my mate and Phoebe Ray was my Luna.
"I'll protect you, Leanna Schuler. I promise." I whispered into her ear and slowly watched as she fell asleep.
By evening, Logan had prepared everything and had called home for a room to be prepared for the new Luna and a spot for the new maid. It was time for me to meet Phoebe.
"Where is she?"
Logan appeared with an average height girl with slim features and pretty face that was all dolled in makeup. She looked almost unreal with her obvious skills in painting her face, lips too dangerously red, a smile too broad to be real and fake blush spanning across her nose and cheeks.
She also wore a spandex bodysuit that clung to her shapes and left little to the imagination on her chest. Her cleavage could be seen.
"Here she is, Alpha."
"Pleased to meet you, Alpha Kale." She curtsied, her smile still broad as if she'd been prepared to do just that as if it would make me like her.
