Chapter 7

EMMA POV:

Days pass by and everything was going smoothly. One day as usual, I went to university and sat down in class to take the first lecture. Soon the teacher enters the classroom and announces before starting his lecture.

'Today students, you will be given assignments of every subject which you have to submit before the deadline.'

Some students were not paying any attention. Next words also catch their attention and not a little bit but their whole attention.

'And those assignment numbers will be counted in your exams.' He continued

Listening to this, almost all students groaned. I and Alyssa also looked at each other with horrified faces. After class, we walked through hallways towards the next class.

'Why to add their numbers on final exams.' i complained.

' Exactly. There is no need for that' Alyssa also joined.

'We can't do anything about that' Drake tried to lighten the mood.

We slumped our shoulders and attended our remaining lectures. True to the first teacher's words, every teacher gave the assignment of their subjects.

The deadline was the end of next week. We have hardly ten days to submit our assignments. By the end of the day, the mood of every first-semester student was completely down.

'We have to start working from today.' Alyssa said.

'Right.' I responded.

We all then went home. The next ten days were hectic. Everyone was busy doing their work. In starting, I was like doing a little work and left the remaining work on the next day. Days pass by and the deadline was coming near and near.

Now the whole burden broke on me. I have a lot of work left and everyone has nearly completed their work. In the mornings, I was attending classes sleepily and at nights, staying late to complete my work. Dark circles were slightly forming under my eyes, showing my lack of sleep.

Soon the dreading day came. Luckily, I had finished my work last night. Many students have submitted their work a day before.

I lazily got up from my bed and went to the bathroom. I also didn't put any effort into getting ready. I took the file that had all of my assignments and went out of the house towards the bus station.

I sleepily got on the bus and sat in a free seat. I don't know when I dozed off. Soon my stop came. The lady next to me woke me up. I thanked her because if she didn't wake me up, then I would have missed my stop.

I got off the bus. I stopped by a coffee shop to buy a coffee to fully wake me up. Then I made my way towards the university.

I found Alyssa standing alone in the department.

'Emmmaaaaa, I am tired.' she whined as soon as she saw me.

'My condition is not very different from you.' i guaranteed her.

'Where is Drake?' I asked Alyssa.

'His assignment was not complete. He went to take help from his friend.' Alyssa told me.

Then we went to submit our assignment. But seem like luck was not at my side.

'Where is my file?' I said to no one in particular.

'What happened?' Alyssa asked me.

'My file, it's nowhere to be found' I panicked.

If it was a simple assignment, then it was not a big deal.

But ladies and Gentlemen, this is NOT a simple assignment. Its number will be counted in final exams. I know I am exaggerating it a little, but what can I do.

'Don't worry, we will find it' Alyssa tried to comfort me.

I told her to submit her assignment first. Then we went in search of my file.

'Maybe you forgot your file at home?' Alyssa asked.

'No, I clearly remembered I took it with me.' I replied. My tension was increasing by each passing minute.

My hard work of so many nights was gone in a second.

'Alyssa, you look in the hallways where we were standing and I will go, check the bus station.' I told her because if we both look in the same place, then it will take more time.

'Okay, if I found it I will inform you.' she replied.

I went out of the building in a rush. I didn't see anyone coming from the front because my eyes were searching everywhere in the hope of finding my file.

I bumped into the person. I tilted my head to see whom I crashed with. Josh was standing there.

'What happened? Why do you look disturbed?' he asked, looking concerned.

I told him the whole story.

'I will come with you.' he replied.

I have no time to waste, therefore I agreed. We both went to the bus station. We looked everywhere, but the file was not there.

I sat on the bench, totally dejected. Now I will not get marks, and my first-semester result will be bad. I am not a topper person, but I like getting good grades.

'We will find it.' Josh tried to comfort me.

' No, I looked everywhere.' I had lost hope.

'How can I be so careless!' I was getting angry at my own negligent behavior.

'Don't be sad. Let's find again.' He encouraged.

Awww, he is so sweet. He has a kind heart with a kind face.

I was staring at him. He snapped his fingers in front of me. I then paid attention to what he was saying.

'Emma, Did you come directly to university from bus station'? He asked.

I put pressure on my brain to remember but, due to all this chaos and lack of sleep, my mind has gone blank.

Oh yes lack of sleep. I went to shop to buy coffee this morning to remove sleepiness.

'Yes, today I went to coffee shop.' i told him.

'Let's go, find there.' he replied.

We hurriedly went to the coffee shop. We entered the shop.

'Have you seen a red color file by any chance'? I asked a random waitress.

'No I haven't seen any. ' she replied.

'let's ask on the counter. ' Josh said.

We went towards the counter. A man above thirty age was standing there doing his work.

We asked them about our concerned file.

'Have you seen any red color file? It's very important.' Josh asked the manager politely.

The manager looked at the counter and in drawers but seems like he finds nothing.

'I'm sorry. There is no such file.' the manager told us apologetically.

I looked at Josh with teary eyes. Now my last hope was also crushed. It's all due to my carelessness. He patted me on my shoulders trying to lift my mood.

'Don't worry, I will talk with the teachers. Hope they will understand.' Josh tried to comfort me.
