Cara POV
“The meeting with Draven was peaceful. And it was at one of his hotels, not his office as usual.”
“That's surprising. I didn't even know he had a hotel and I talked to people who knew or did business with him.” Abby said as her words came out slow and low. She was at the other end of the line but I knew she was confused without her being in front of me.
“You're heading here, right?” she asked as I walked out of the lobby, heading towards the exit. The receptionist wasn't in sight.
“Yes, why?” I wondered why she was asking about my next destination.
“Nothing Cara, can't a friend be concerned about your whereabouts and safety?”
“It was just sudden an–”.
My phone slipped from my hand making a clack sound as a voice brought me back from my shock. I bumped into someone and from the shoes and fitted pants, I was sure it was a man. Raising my head, I was met with Tony's gaze. My mouth curled up in disgust.
“I am aware you have no wolf, but I wasn't informed you had gone blind, darling”. He plastered his disgusting smirk on his face.
Without responding, I picked my phone up from the ground, hung up and walked past him, but before I could get further, something held my wrist. Turning, my eyes caught Tony's hand wrapped around my wrist. My blood boiled looking at his hand on me.
“Get your hands off me, Tony.” I warned, a strain in my voice. Everything was peaceful until he showed up.
“I told you Cara. We will see each other again. Draven won't save you from me this time.” He chuckled slightly.
“I don't need him to save me. I can handle filth like you on my own.”
“I would like to see how you achieve it.” He said, letting my hand go, using his body to completely block my path, causing me to roll my eyes.
“Move out of my way Tony, or the consequences won't be favourable.”
He laughed, mocking me. “You can't do s**t Cara. Besides, I have an offer for you.”
“Save it. Nothing good comes out of the filth you call a mouth.” I moved to leave but he blocked my way. I was so close to the exit. And I wondered where the receptionist was.
“Ouch… you keep hurting me Cara but my only crime is loving you.” He placed a hand on his heart as if he was in pain, he sickened me with his pathetic acting.
“What's the stupid offer your dumb mind came up with?” I looked at him with my arms crossed. The news of my marriage with Draven wasn't public yet and I couldn't wait to see his face twist in surprise. I would give it to him personally for the pleasure of seeing his face twist.
“Be mine again and I will help you revive your company. I know you wanted Ridgecrest but Draven got in the way. If you agree to be mine again, Ridgecrest and many more will be yours.”
I laughed. What a joke.
“Do you think marriage is a joke? And of all the male wolves I could have, why would I choose a Beta over a powerful Alpha?” I chuckled at him. I was sure he had hit his head before seeing me.
“You definitely don't mean that. You can't throw away all the affection we had for each other.” I snickered at his words.
“What stupid love are you blabbering about, huh? Is it the one where you mocked me for my dormant wolf or the one you tried to use me to get to my wealth?”
I told him as my hand slid down my thigh grabbing my pocket knife. My wolf may be dormant but I have trained and I know how to defend myself.
“I won't say it again, move”. I watched as his eyes darted at the knife in my hand, then my face and body sizing me up. He chuckled and smirked at the end of it.
“You think you can do s**t to me with that. I am not some weak wolf who would fear your silly threats. You're more or less a human now.” He started giving me the look of ‘I dare you’ while stepping closer.
Not thinking further, I swung the knife at him. He dodged, smirking.
I swung again and kicked at the side of his body aiming for his ribs.
He blocked the kick but not the blade.
The knife sliced into the arm he’d used to block the hit, as blood painted the knife, cutting deep.
I stepped back.
“Now are you willing to step aside?” I asked, panting slightly and smirking at the sight of his blood dripping from the cut to the floor.
“I will get you for this Cara, right here and now.” He threatened in between groans.
“Wha.. what did you cut me with you b***h?” He snarled in a low voice.
“My knife, coated in wolfsbane for dipshits like you.”
“Don't think I will let you go so easily now. You have to take responsibility for this and what better way than to make you bear the mark of the one you hate?” He laughed.
“You're sick if you think I will ever let that happen. I am already married to Draven.” I told him expecting to see a shocked expression on his face but he just chuckled.
“I see he hasn't marked you yet. It won't be such a bad idea if I do the honors for him, don't you think?”
He took steady strides to me, a smirk plastered on his lips as I stepped back at reflex. I looked at my surroundings, I was at the receptionist area, I just needed to get to the exit.
“I suggest you get out of your head Tony. I am not yours and never was.” He had a crazy look in his eyes and he should be groaning in pain but he wasn't.
He said nothing and only walked forward. I could see the wolfsbane affecting him. He should have healed by now but he hadn't. He just smirked regardless.
My fingers tightened around the knife until my knuckles burned and I wished my wolf would magically appear.
My reality settled in. I had no one to rescue me if the worst happened. If Abby got here, it would be too late. I wondered if, seeing me screaming and crying for help, Draven would save me.
As I took another step back, Tony was already on me. He grabbed my right hand, twisted it behind my back and slammed me into the wall. Pain shot up my arm and I was forced to drop the knife.
But I caught the knife with my left hand and slammed my heel onto his foot.
His grip loosened for a second and it was enough for me as I swung at him, cutting his face slightly.
“I will make you regret, Cara.” He promised, holding his cheek as his smirk was replaced with a deep frown. He grazed the side of his left cheek as the evidence of the deep cut stained his hands.
I watched as blood slid down his left cheek like tears, the wound stretched from his cheekbone down to his jaw in a curved line. It would surely leave a scar on his face.
His gaze locked on me as he took another step forward.
There was nowhere left to run.
