CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO Polite Goodbyes The door knocker dropped sharply followed by the sound of Jonathan’s voice. “Where is she, Addison!” his voice boomed from the entrance and on up the stairs where Lizzy was dressing for the day. The parlor door opened a few moments later and William Addison strolled his way. “I see you finally managed to come.” “I would have come much sooner, if I’d known where she was.” “If she’d been my wife, I would have been scouring the countryside when she turned up missing. Or did you even know?” Jonathan’s face flushed red at the implication, but he ignored the insult. “Your behavior, Addison, leaves me to wonder if you can be trusted with another man’s wife?” “Lizzy is a loyal woman. If nothing else was clear to me, that is.” “So, she turned you down?”
