As she reflected on her wasted years, she wept miserably that the taxi driver began to pity her. "we have gotten to the place madam" he said. Soaked in tears, she didn't even notice they had arrived at the villa.
She nodded and quickly wiped her tears, and paid the fare. She sighed her heart beating fast. The Johnson's family hates her with passion except the old man. With shaky feet, she walked into the empty courtyard. But luck wasn't on her side because the first person she ran into was Emily, Johnson younger sister.
Her mouth is sharper then a sword and her words stung badly. She froze on the spot hoping she could just vanish. When Emily saw her, she bursted into a loud shrill laughter that echoed all over the building. She walked closer to her to see her face very well. "Well well look who it is! Its Anabel the lovesick fool! Welcome back, how did my brother treat you?
Hope you had a jolly marriage" Emily sneered drawing the attention of the remaining family members. A tear slipped from her eyes, when she saw this Emily couldn't help but feel satisfied. Anytime she came visiting before she got married to her brother, she would be behaving like a spoilt rich princess.
Now seeing the princess on her knees, nothing could be more satisfying! Same goes with the other family members. They hated her to their bones! Now she is in their grasp, they will taunt her to their full. "Emily princess.....don't be so unwelcoming to your sister in law..let her go in" aunt Milicent Scolded mockingly.
Emily rose an eyebrow with a wide wicked grin "oh....sister in law, you're welcome" she said opening the door wider for her to pass through. When she thought everything was over, Milicent stretched out her foot tripping her. She landed on her face in front of them, they all echoed a resounding laughter. Hot tears spilled from her eyes, as she was still on the floor, they were ransacking through her luggage.
"Stupid thing, she was coming and couldn't even get anything for us. Just a bunch of rags and old panties. " Rihannah, Emily's younger sister sneered spitefully. They threw her luggage on her head and all went in. Her body was aching all over, she had scratched her body from falling on the rough floor. She packed her things and entered into the villa. Everyone ignored her and she began to wander looking for the guest room.
After searching for a long time, she found it, but it was bare with no iota of furniture in it. She sighed unable to cry anymore, if she keeps on crying they will take her for a weakling and she will get an headache. She smiled weakly and dropped her bag in a corner. She swept the room which was filled with all kinds of bugs and insects. After arranging it and using some of her many clothes to make a bed, she was dusty and dirty.
She needed to take a bath. There was a bathroom in the room.....or better still store. The tap was broken and there was a little soap. She sighed and picked up the bucket. She searched around the villa but no One was willing to give her just a bucket of water. As she was returning to her room, she saw Emily's door was ajar and she decided to fetch a little from her bathroom.
She hurriedly fetched it praying she doesn't get caught. But she wasn't so lucky, as soon as she stepped out of the room, she bumped into......Emily! She looked at her and her face turned cold "did you take this water from my room? So you're a thief?" She asked on the top of her shrill voice. "Am sorry, the tap in my room is broken and......" She tried explaining but Emily didn't want to hear any explanations.
She snatched the bucket of water from her and detached her with it. As if that wasn't enough, she smashed the bucket on the floor breaking it to pieces before going into her room and banging the door. Soaked to her skin with a high fever, her teeth chattered and her headache and temperature soared. She slowly walked out of the villa to the garden.
She squatted and began to wail into her laps in the dark. Her lone and desolate figure stretched in the moonlight looking pitiful and vulnerable. As she cried, a little hand patted her back. She nearly jumped out of her skin in fright, who was with her in this lonely garden? She looked up and saw a little boy of about nine years old holding out a little towel and a flower to her.
Her heart melted, without thinking she grabbed it and sobbed into it. The boy sat beside her patting her back lightly "sorry aunty, don't be so sad. Its going to be alright soon" he Petted her. She began to shiver from the breeze blowing because she was wet. Suddenly, she felt a little warmth, the boy took off his jacket and covered her with it. After crying for awhile, she slowly raised her head to look at him.
Thee boy heart melted when he saw her red and puffy eyes. "Aunty your temperature is very high! Let me go get you some fever pills" he said standing up to leave. She quickly grasped his hand "who are you? You seem very kind and why do you call me aunty?" She asked genuinely curious. He smiled and his wide clear eyes sparkled making him look so adorable.
"My name is Aaron aunty. Am....cousin Millicent son" he reluctantly introduced as if fearing her reaction. Anabel stared at him stunned in disbelief "Millicent has such a kind and handsome son? And in all criteria, he isn't a bit like them. "Am really sorry for how they treated you aunty.
Few days ago, Brother Johnson called and said he was going to divorce you. Everyone knew you were going to come here next, so they carted away everything in the guestroom. I was the one that snuck in that brush and bucket into the room" he narrated sadly a little ashamed of his family.
She felt a glowing warmth in her heart and was incredibly great full to this prince charming. There was a thick silence between them for sometime "i see the bucket has been taken from you. I have two aunty. Just head to your room, i will bring a bucketful of warm water for you" he promised and turned to leave. She suddenly hugged him tightly.
