CHAPTER THREE

“ I will Nana,” Stephanie gently responded. She assumed Aaron wouldn’t pick on her even though he didn’t look so friendly. Although Grandma Tia was nice to her, Aaron was her blood relative while Stephanie was only related through relationship. Stephanie argued within her that the Hamilton’s were going to stand by her if a fight ensued between her and Aaron. Such was the case of her Mother parent in-laws. Before marriage, the in-laws were so nice to her Mom to the externt that their daughter got jealous. It took another turn after marriage, anytime Stephanie’s mom got into an argument with her husband, her inlaws would gang up and labelnher a bad wife. In short the son was always family while the daughter in law was an outsider. “You must be tired from work, I should get out of your hair so you can rest.” “ It fine Nana, I just got home and I'll have enough rest. You look very much healthier today.” “ When are you probably coming to see me again? I'm leaving the hospital tomorrow you know.” Grandma Tia asked Stephanie. “ I don't think I'll be able to come see you during the week, but I can make it on weekends.” Grandma Tia was silent for a while and she thoughtfully added. “ The weekend it is. Enjoy the remanining of the week.” The old lady hung up while Stephanie opened her front door and stepped into her house. Stephanie prepared a bowl of rice and chicken with sauce for dinner, she settled herself and finished the whole food, she hasn't eaten anything other than the food she ate in the morning before leaving home. Stephanie had to let her best friend know she has a boyfriend now and she would be moving out of her place. She picked up her phone and sent Jane a text. About ten minutes later Jane arrived at Stephanie's home. Jane was a talkative and couldn't keep her mouth shut. She asked about Stephanie's first day at work and if any man approached her. Stephanie replied and burst out laughing, “ It my first day, no one would approach me, Jane. Stop being silly.” “ You’re pretty and I think the guys over there at Intech would be drooling over you, it kills me that you wouldn’t put on makeup and dress like a proper single lady.” Jane’s definition of ‘Proper’ was putting on extremely tight skirts with heavy makeup. Stephanie her eyes,“ Anyways I thought I should let you know, I've gotten a boyfriend.” “ You have a boyfriend?!” Jane asked in surprise . Her voice so high and almost turning to a screech. Staring at Stephanie in disbelief, Jane got up from her sit and joined Stephanie on hers. “ I thought you don't have a boyfriend, what's this all about Stephanie?” Before Jane came, Stephanie had a story all thought out, She quickly replied. “I have been in a relationship for quite some time. His name is Aaron. He was always busy with work and project trips so we couldn't make time to meet you.” “ He's a good man, don't worry Jane, I'm in good hands.” Jane had a hard time buying the story, the Stephanie she knew wouldn't make her relationship a secret from her. “I hope you know what you're doing Stephanie, and not get stuck with the wrong guy.” “I'm happy for you anyways. Come here.” Jane pulled Stephanie closer and hugged her tight. “I'll be moving out too Jane, Aaron got a new house and he asked me to come live with him. Besides, I could save up on rent with that.” Stephanie while playing with her fingers. “ Aaron’s house is on Gatewood Ave not far from yours, I'll visit you often Jane.” Stephanie promised. Since Stephanie was already in the relationship, Jane had no choice but to accept it. Even though she went on to dig further about Aaron. Stephanie didn't know much about the Hamilton’s. Although she had Grandma Tia for only three months, Stephanie never pried into their family affair and usually lent ear to Grandma Tia talks. All she knew was Aaron was the eldest of Grandma Tia grandchildren. “Aaron is my boss at In-tech.” The room was filled with an awkward silence, while Jane left her mouth open. “ What?” Jane stared at Stephanie, hoping for more explanation. “ Isn’t that against your company policy?” Jane continued. “Aaron asked that we keep it private, I don’t think it's going to be a problem if we do and no one is gonna find out about it.” Stephanie continued calmly . “ Okay. But you better be sure.” Jane gulped the remaining of her soda drink, while they both talked on other things and Jane left afterwards. Stephanie packed her belongings into two bags , she didn’t have much and she stuffed the bags into her car . She drove to Gatewood all thanks to google maps as she had never been in that neighborhood before. Once she got there, it occurred to her that she never asked Aaron what floor his place was on. Stephanie pulled out her phone to call Aaron but she reasoned he might not pick up or maybe he would be busy , so she opted to call him on w******p instead. Aaron was in a meeting with some investors. Everyone in the conference room had their phone set on silent mode as no personal calls were allowed. He also muted his phone but it was on the table but his sharp eyes quickly caught an incoming call from Stephanie. Aaron didn’t save Stephanie contact when they exchanged numbers. With Stephanie's profile name “ Beauty from the Lost Island” popping out on w******p, Aaron declined the unidentified call without thinking twice. He then blacklisted Stephanie's number. Without knowing what Aaron had done Stephanie tried messaging him since he was not picking up his calls. Stephanie: [Aaron, I’m at Gatewood, but I don’t know which floor your place is on.] After typing the message , Stephanie tapped send only to realize that her message couldn’t be delivered to him. She stared at the blank screen thinking about why she couldn’t reach his number , after thinking for a while Stephanie concluded that Aaron blacklisted her number. Did he forget that they were in a relationship? Stephanie later called Grandma Tia, after exchanging pleasantries she uttered. “ Nana I moved out of my place and I’m now at Gatewood but I don’t know Aaron’s … Uh…. Do you know what floor Aaron's place is on?” Grandma Tia, gasped in surprise. “ Hang on dear , I’ll call Aaron right now”. Grandma Tia had no clue too. The house was bought recently so Aaron could scrutinize Stephanie. Grandma Tia ended the call and wasted no time to get hold of Aaron. Less than five minutes after blacklisting his girlfriend number, Aaron’s phone screen lit up. Seeing it was Grandma Tia he answered the call. “ I’m in a meeting, Nana.” Aaron's deep baritone voice came through, at the end of the phone. “Anything can wait until I get home.” “ Aaron, what is the floor number of your house at Gatewood? Stephanie is stuck outside and she couldn’t reach you. Go and tell her.” Aaron raised his eyebrow , Oh now he remembered.
