The panther sprang forward, a swift mix of might and threat. Ralph reacts without thinking, facing the attack directly. The impact rang out in the alley, filled with growls and heavy hits that echoed in the night. Ralph barked, pushing the panther away with a strong kick. “Rieka, step back!” Rieka stepped back, her pulse racing as she observed the struggle. The panther moved quickly, but Ralph ’s power and experience kept him dominant. Holding up to herself, feeling frustrated for not being able to help. Surprisingly, the panther was slammed against the wall, as the panther slum to the floor. Ralph stood over him, panting, his eyes filled with anger. “Why are you here?” Ralph asked, his voice low and threatening. The panther smirked, blood trickling from his lip. “You think this is over? You’re clueless, Alpha. This is merely the start.” Before Ralph could reply, the panther transformed, his body shrinking as he took on his human form. He spat on the ground defiantly. Ralph ’s fist clenched tightly, but before he could swing, a voice broke in. “Stop.” Ralph and Rieka looked to see Gonzalo entering the alley, his demeanor authoritative. His attention shifted from the panther to Ralph . Gonzalo Ordered, his voice steady but forceful. “Let him go,” Ralph gritted his teeth. “He attacked us, Gonzalo. We can’t just let him leave.” Gonzalo said to Ralph : “We’ll handle him the right way," looking him in the eye. “This is not the right place for it.” Ralph stepped back, reluctantly, so the panther could regain his feet. He gave them one more sneer before he melted into the darkness. The expression on Ralph 's face was enough to see his frustration as he turned to Austin. “Why did you stop me? He could have been giving us answers.” Gonzalo Exhaled, putting a hand on Ralph ’s shoulder. “And what would that have achieved? There are larger powers at play here, Ralph we need to act intelligently” Rieka, gasping, took a step. “He said something about this being just the start. Do you know what he meant?” Gonzalo’s expression darkened. “I have my suspicions but no specific proof. We have to learn more, before we act.” Ralph frowned, clearly less than satisfied but trusting Gonzalo’s judgment. “Fine. But we can’t wait — we can’t keep waiting.” Gonzalo told him “We’re not,” He softened his gaze at Rieka. “Are you alright?” Rieka nodded, but her blood was still pumping through her veins. “I’m fine. Just a little shaken.” Austin’s eyes remained on her, a hint of something unsaid sparking between them. “Good. You need to stay safe.” Ralph saw the exchange and narrowed his eyes just a touch, but he didn’t say anything. So he returned to Gonzalo instead. “We need to talk. Privately.” Gonzalo nodded. “Let’s head back to the den. It’s not safe out here.” They walked back in silence, the weight of the night’s events bearing down on them. They returned in silence, the gravity of the night sky pressing against them. Inside the safety of the den, Ralph directed Gonzaloto a quiet corner while Rieka remained behind, frantically tossing around questions in her mind. Ralph bent close, speaking quietly. “What’s going on, Austin? You know more than you’re admitting.” Gonzalo Paused, glancing around to see if anyone else could hear. “There are... cartels being formed, Ralph . Very dangerous ones. Lloyd Rock is at the helm of it. He controls those cartels.” Ralph ’s knuckles tightened at the sound of Lloyd’s name. “That bastard. What’s his plan?” Gonzalo Sighed. “He’s consolidating power from other packs, offering them power in return for loyalty. He seeks to rule the lycan throne, and he won’t rest until he gets there.” Ralph ’s eyes darkened. “And the panthers and what about them?” Gonzalo Acknowledged “They’re part of his plan. He’s been utilizing them as spies and gathering information on anybody who he thinks he’ll have to face.” Ralph ’s jaw tightened. “And you? Where do you come into all this?” Gonzalo avoided eye contact, guilt passing over his face. “I’ve been working for him, but not as a choice. He’s blackmailing me, Ralph . If I refuse to play along, he’ll reveal secrets that would ruin the pack.” Ralph didn’t believe that, but his eyes got wide. “You’ve been working with Lloyd?” Gonzalo Replied "I didn't have a choice,” his voice breaking. "But I swear, everything I've done has been to protect the pack.” Ralph stepped backward, his mind beating faster. "You should have told me." Gonzalo Exclaimed desperately "I couldn't. I was trying to find a way from within to try and stop him." Ralph stared at him, anger and betrayal mixed in his eyes. "And now?" Austin's gaze hardened. "Now we fight back. But we need to be smart about it. Ralph nodded, slow anger in his eyes melting into determination. "We will. But the next time you betray us, Gonzalo, I'll deal with you myself." Gonzalo held his gaze steadily. "I wouldn't expect anything less." Meanwhile, Rieka sat in the common area of the den, lost in thought. She felt Gonzalo was hiding much more than he had said so far. She instinctively knew there was more at play here-something to do with her. Furthermore, she did not notice Gonzalo until he spoke. "Rieka." She looked up, startled. "Gonzalo." He sat beside her, his expression unreadable. "I need to talk to you about something” Rieka frowned. "About what?" Gonzalo hesitated then leaned in closer, lowering his voice. "There's something you need to know. About your powers." Her heart skipped a beat. "What about them? Gonzalo looked around only to be sure that there wasn't anyone around that would listen or hear their discussions. “You’re more powerful than you could imagine And Lloyd is aware of it.” Rieka’s eyes widened. “Please GonzaloI don't understand, what do you mean?” Before Gonzalo could say a single word, the den’s doors burst open, and a young wolf came in with pressure, looking frightening and dangerous. “Ralph ! Rieka! We’ve got trouble. The panthers are here again, and they’ve brought reinforcements.” Rieka’s blood ran cold, and she turned to Austin, her v oice sounding shaking. “What do we do?” Gonzalo’s expression darkened. “We fight, defend yourself but remember we need to be smart about it”
