kasy
The whistle blows for half time and we all wave to the crowd who hasn’t stopped cheering.
They really aren’t used to winning.
We go to our side of the field and sit under a half dome awning.
Jo holds out her hand for mine, I place mine in hers and she pulls my magic into her.
Then she goes to Layla and Dawn finishing up their healing. I then grab Jo and sit her down, allowing my magic to flow into her again and get her back to full strength.
“Thanks I needed that.” She says with a sigh and slumps against the wall.
“Well magic Netball is intense!” I say to them.
They grunt in agreement, but Layla’s busy testing her wrist. Dawn is rubbing her cheek checking it’s healed right.
Eloise’s looking like the one who’s the least injured at this point.
“They’ll be trying to take you out now Jo. Be prepared.” Eloise tells us all.
Mrs Barnes comes over to our side.
“Wow, girls thank you! For wiping those smug smiles off their faces! I’ve been waiting years for a good team and I know the amount of work your parents have made you do with no explanation as to why. So surprise from us all!” She does some sort of weird jazz hands thing and we all laugh with her.
“I have a present for each of you from your parents actually.”
She clicks her fingers and five other students come round the side of our dome carrying a box each.
“These are all of your mother’s. They were all on our sports teams. The left their items here to be displayed in the cabinet for other students to see.” She pauses as the students set the boxes at our feet. We look at each other in confusion.
“But as you have all joined the academy they have all requested that their items be removed from the display cabinets and be given to you at a time of my choosing. So the time is now! Open up girls!” She screaks the last bit making us wince a little.
I open my box, not wasting any time. I see photos in plaques and trophies. There’s a pe shirt with my surname on, as I lift it out I see that all of the girls have the same shirt in their hands.
“Shall we?” I ask them.
“Be rude not too!” Layla replies.
I go to put my tee on and Jo stops me, she signals Dawn who is looking at the t-shirt like it’s about to fly!
“Ugh....OK mate?” I ask
“Yes if you count that these t-shirts are spelled to only be warn by the direct children of our parents!”
Mrs Barnes laughs, “There spelled to do a bit more than that dear.”
She winks at us and leaves us with our boxes.
“OK then! I guess we try them out?”
I ask the girls. Who nod in agreement.
We all put them on within a second they mould to our bodies like a second skin. The power that flowed through us was incredible!
All our eyes started to glow! Mine glowed bright purple.
“Holy s**t kasy your eyes!” Eloise shouts.
Mrs Barnes blows the whistle for half time to end. We head out to the pitch again.
Staring the wolf girls straight in the eyes until they drop theirs, feels amazing and powerful. It takes a lot to make a wolf submit and lower their eyes to you. We must look real freaky!!
Our eyes keep glowing, the reflection of my purple eyes shows on the centre players face.
She looks worried and she should be!
Feeling renewed with my mother’s power flowing through my veins I look to Mrs Barnes who blows the whistle and throws the ball.
I jump and so does the centre player, but I kick off her stomach and fly up from the momentum to catch the ball. As she then tumbles to the floor.
As soon as she hits the floor Dawns power rises and the girl is encased in earth.
She’s out of the game, unable to remove the earth trap Dawn has buried her in.
I land and look to Dawn, she seems shocked at what she has just done as much as me. .
I burst out laughing
“One down four to go?”
“Bring it Witch b***h!” the next player growls at me and tries to block my passes to my team.
Then Eloise is behind her and taps her on the shoulder, the wolf whirls round to face her. Fangs bared in her face, Eloise just tilts her head at the threat and laughs.
“Is that all you got?” Eloise asks the wolf girl and she just stares at her in disbelief!
Eloise bursts out laughing again.
“Oh dear I guess that is all you got then!”
Then Eloise let’s rip, her white blue air magic flows from her fingers like shots from a gun, pushing the wolf girl back to the edge of the field until she falls. The air pins her down as well. Eloise turns in amazement...
“Two down, three to go girls!” She shouts!
I pass to Layla and the weakest wolf doesn’t stand a chance, she’s being cautious of the heat flowing from my team mate. Layla lines up the shot and perfectly nails it!
“3-0” Calls Mrs Barnes. The crowd cheers for Layla calling her name.
I see her freeze, following her line of sight I see Jonah, but why is she looking at Jonah??
Then Seth steps out from behind him still in the shadows and lowers his cloak.
I can feel the heat coming off Layla now, but it’s her cheeks that have gone bright red as she looks at her beau.
Seth blows her a kiss, which she catches with a small motion of her hand. Unless you knew what you were looking at you would miss the action.
I run up to Layla and launch myself at her, boosting her up for all the crowd to cheer!
“Would you put me down kasy!” She hisses at me.
“Nope let him see how much your loved! He might pull his finger out and finally give you a real kiss hey!”
I make kissing noises as I let her down and nearly get my butt burnt by a hand for my mockery of her.
I look to Seth who is laughing at my antics shaking his head.
But its Jonah’s eyes I catch next, he looks from Seth, to Layla and then me and raises his eyebrow. I shrug him off and head back into the game. Ready to catch the next throw from Mrs Barnes.
Just to make the point that we are the best I stand on the earth mound that is the wolf girl, to catch the ball with no opposition. The crowd loves this and their cheers and woops fill the air.
I pass to Jo who has her eyes on the defence player as she tries to run and block her.
Jo passes the ball back quickly and begins to dance????
We’re all a bit confused, but Jo has the hole courts attention now.
As she makes a final turn six icicles with wicked sharp points shoot from her hand towards the wolf player who tried to block her.
They land two above her shoulders going throw her t-shirt, one on either side of her waist and one of each hip. Ripping through her clothes they drag her along with the force they were thrown.
Same as Eloise’s opponent, the girl falls and the ice stabs into the ground pinning the girl!
“Three down,” Jo calls
“Two to go!” the hole crowd joins in with our shout.
I turn and line up my shot, I’m far away but I can make it. I feel invisible in this shirt!
I let my shoulders relax and I make the shot.
It looks like it’s going to fall too soon, but it doesn’t and it goes through the hoop perfectly!
“4-0” Mrs Barnes calls and the crowd start to cheer my name as I run around jumping and doing a couple of back flips.... well just cause I can really!
My eyes collide with Jonah’s as I land my last flip, he’s moved to beside the pitch and he’s watching me intently.
Head in the game kasy!
Do not ogle boys now!
With only two wolves left I let Dawn come up and play centre. I move further towards our basket circle to receive the ball from Dawn.
Both me and Layla are flanked by the two players left.
“You’re turn” I say to Layla and she nods.
Moving in front of the wolf quickly but not quickly enough, as Dawn throws the ball the wolf girl grabs it. But her only player left is the weakling, who tries to out maneuverer me but I block her easily.
In the time the player with the ball has tried to pass it, Layla has run around her creating a high wall of fire.
It’s Neon orange! Something none of us have seen her magic do.
The wall is to high for the wolf to pass through and she keeps screaming as the heat touches her when she does try. Layla walks into the flames and takes the ball easily from her hands. Now she’s in perfect shot range, she takes the shot and she scores!
“5-0 to the Elementals!” Mrs Barnes calls and goes to throw the ball back in. Jo is there in the centre to receive it.
The last wolf flags me, with one last burst of determination she tries her best. But her energy is failing, her spirit that I can see clearly now isn’t hole.
WTF happened to this girl.
I look to Jonah who taps his heart and winks. I know what I have to do, as Jo passes me to ball I let the wolf girl catch it.
As she manages to grab it and hold on she then realises there are no team mates to pass it too.
I stroll up to her and hold my hand out, gathering a ball of spiritual energy I hit her square in the heart with it.
She blinks twice looking down at her chest, but her spirit is already mine. I smile and command her to sit in the watery mud pit that is the pitch now.
Her wolf fights the compulsion my magic is calling her to do. It fights it so hard she changes into her wolf right there in front of the hole crowd. I shake my head at the wolf and command it to sit.
The wolf has no choice, her spirit is broken or used up. I can’t tell which but it doesn’t bother me as I pick the ball up from the floor and throw it to Dawn who is in the circle waiting by the hoop.
She lines up her shot and takes it.
Another hoop scored!!!
The crowd screams in triumph shouting our names, Mrs Leck lets off her fireworks.
“And the game goes to the Elementals of Glastonbury Witches Academy! 6-0” She cheers with the crowd.
Then they start running towards us and hoist us up on their shoulders chanting Elementals and carrying us all around the pitch.
The wolves are all still stuck by magic.
We’ll go let them up later.....much later.
