New life
I stepped off the bus and breathed in deeply, feeling the warm California breeze fill my lungs. I had finally made it, after weeks and weeks of planning and putting together my savings, I escaped.
My eyes scanned the bustling streets of LA, feeling a must of excitement and nerves coursing though my vein. ‘So this is my new life’ I thought, I had to be really careful because one wrong move could lead to my downfall
As I entered my hotel room, I immediately took a warm bath cleaning my self. My short, dark hair was now longer and my style had transformed from elegant to edgy. I settled into my bed and brought out my laptop and began my plan. My plan was to get in contact with Lucas, a rich powerful billionaire who literally owns half of the city. My eyes gleamed with determination as I typed away on my laptop, my mind racing with strategies. I was a woman on a mission, in need of freedom and security and Lucas was the key. Every night he goes to his club either for fun or for business and that’s when I’ll make my move. My heart swelled with hope thinking I can finally do this as I closed my laptop, satisfied with my first plan, I laid on my bed exhausted and thinking until sleep finally found me
I slipped on my dress, my heart racing with anticipation. This was it – my chance to finally meet Lucas. After a quick bite to eat, I took a deep breath, grabbed my clutch, and headed out into the night.
As I approached the club, the thumping music and flashing lights enveloped me. I felt a thrill of excitement mixed with nerves. The bold sign “Eclipse” seem to pulse with energy. Inside, the crowd was alive, bodies moving to the rhythm. I made my way to the bar, my eyes scanning the room for a glimpse of Lucas.
The bartender, a charming stranger with a bright smile and playful wink, caught my eye. "What's a beautiful woman like you doing in a place like this?" he flirted, his eyes crinkling at the corners. I laughed, feeling a flutter in my chest. "Just here for a good time," I replied, playing along.
But my attention was elsewhere, my eyes scanning the room for a sign of Lucas. Minutes ticked by, feeling like hours. I sipped my drink, my patience wearing thin. Where was he?
Just as I was starting to think I'd been stood up, I saw him – tall, imposing, and devastatingly handsome. Our eyes locked, and I felt a jolt of electricity run through me. Lucas.
To grab his attention, I decided to do the dumbest thing ever. I downed my drink, took a deep breath, and made my way onto the dance floor. The music was pulsating, and I let myself get lost in the rhythm. That's when I spotted her – a harried-looking waitress, balancing a tray of drinks with a look of intense concentration.
I took a deep breath, apologized to the universe in advance, and made my move. With a flourish, I "accidentally" bumped into the poor waitress, sending drinks flying and shattering glass everywhere. And then, I let out a scream. Not just any scream, but a blood-curdling, ear-piercing, window-shattering shriek that could have awakened the dead.
The music screeched to a halt, and the entire club turned to stare at me in horror. The waitress looked like she was about to cry, and I couldn't blame her. Lucas, however, looked like he was about to kill someone – preferably me. He strode over, his eyes blazing with annoyance, and demanded, "What in the name of all that is holy was that?!"
I grinned sheepishly, trying to look as innocent as possible. "Oops?" I ventured, my voice trembling with laughter. The waitress shot me a withering look, but Lucas just raised an eyebrow. "You're going to need to do better than that," he said dryly, his eyes never leaving mine as he grabbed my hands and took me away. And with that, my plan was in motion.
Lucas dragged me into his private booth, his grip firm on my wrist. "Do you know what you've don-" he growled, his eyes blazing with annoyance.
"I need your help," I interrupted, trying to sound calm despite my racing heart.
He raised an eyebrow, sipping his whiskey on the rocks. "First, never interrupt me. And no, I won't help you”
“You don't even know what I'm about to say." I rolled my eyes, frustration building. "You're probably thinking I'm some gold-digger, here to demand money or favors."
Lucas snorted, leaning back in his plush seat. "You're probably someone I had a one-night stand with, and now you're here to make a scene."
I shook my head, disgusted. "I'm not here for that."
He raised an eyebrow, smirking. Then what do you want?"
I took a deep breath, my heart pounding. "Marry me."
Lucas's eyes widened, his whiskey glass paused mid-air. "What?!! "his whiskey glass still suspended in mid-air. "What?!!" he repeated, his voice laced with disbelief. "Not only are you...unexpected," he said, his gaze roaming over me, "but you're also crazy. I mean, certifiably nuts."
I bristled, my face heating up. "I'm not crazy," I protested, trying to sound dignified despite the absurdity of the situation.
Lucas raised an eyebrow. "Really? Because 'marry me' is not exactly the most conventional opening line. Especially after...you know." He gestured vaguely, his expression amused.
I sighed, my shoulders sagging. "That was one mistake, okay? And I was drunk."
Lucas chuckled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "I think you might need to work on your sales pitch, sweetheart. 'Marry me, I'm a fun drunk' isn't exactly a winning argument."
I rolled my eyes, laughing despite myself. "You're enjoying this, aren't you?"
Lucas grinned, his teeth flashing in the dim light. "Oh, immensely."
"You need a wife, and I need you," I said, my voice firm and determined.
Lucas's expression turned serious, his eyes narrowing slightly. "What makes you think I need a wife?"
I stood my ground, unwavering. "I know what I want, and I'm willing to take a chance to get it."
He regarded me for a moment, his gaze piercing. "I'm not interested in games or proposals from strangers," he said finally.
I held my ground, my heart pounding. "I'm not a stranger. And this isn't a game."
Lucas raised an eyebrow, his expression unyielding. "My office, 10 am tomorrow. But don't get your hopes up." He said giving me a small card
I nodded, a small smile playing on my lips. "I'll be there."
