Chapter 2

Alina POV: ”What are you doing?” I asked him as he wrote something down on a piece of paper. Once he finished writing and placed it between a set of books, Lucas walked towards where I stood. ”Nothing important. Let’s go.” He said and opened the door. His actions had me confused and very curious about what he wrote, but I shrugged it off as nothing. ”Where are we going, again? I don’t recall you filling me in on everything.” I said and stood my ground. Of course I wasn’t about to just leave so quickly with this dude after what….knowing him for 5-10 minutes? Actually, no. Encountering with him for five to ten minutes, because honestly….I didn’t have a clue to who he was except for what he already said. Lucas sighed. “There is a safe house that I can set you in for the time-being. It is not here in California, though. I shook my head. “Why are you doing this for me?” ”Katherine asked me to do this. Don’t worry, no harm will ever come to you there. You are completely safe with me.“ Something about him seemed off, but it could just be my paranoia. He actually had me believing for a moment or two. ”Well, I would like to at least say an actual goodbye before leaving again.” I replied. He looked at me weirdly and raised his brow. “Wha—“ I stopped him, already know what he would ask me. ”My home. It has been two and a half months since I’ve been here and I missed my home. I never would have thought I’d be away for so long. Can you at least give me a moment to you know….adjust to everything, please?” I asked him. After a few minutes, Lucas sighed again. “You know he’s on his way here, right?” ”Yes, I am very much aware. Just please, it won’t take that long. Besides, these clothes in here doesn’t even feel like mines.” I said, pointing to the suitcase of luggage I brought from Tristan’s mansion, beside me. ”Fine….you only have a few minutes and then we’ll have to get going.” I smiled a little. “Thanks.” Once replied, I quickly rushed up the stairs and grabbed my own suitcase, stuffing my clothes in there. The familiar smell of my home felt like heaven to me. It was such a disappointment I couldn’t stay for long. I wondered about Abby and where she was, but I trusted Tristan when he said she was safe and in good hands. Hopefully, I would be able to see her again. I walked to the bathroom and grabbed my already-packed toiletry bag I saved in here when needed. After a few minutes, I finished packing correctly and scurried back down the stairs. Lucas was still waiting in the same spot. I grabbed the other suitcase as well. As I walked to the door with them in my hand, Lucas stopped me. ”Hey. You’re pregnant. Haven’t you heard of the saying….no heavy lifting?” He asked. I rolled my eyes. “This isn’t even heavy.” ”Doesn’t matter. Let the guys do the heavy lifting.” I rolled my eyes again. “Whatever.” I let him carry out the suitcases, while I locked the door behind me and sniffed as I looked at the now locked door. ’I’ll miss this home so much. I don’t know when I’ll be here again.’ I thought, but forced myself not to cry. ”Be a woman about this, Alina. You’re gonna be 26 in less than four weeks.“ I said to myself and followed behind Lucas. He walked up to a Gray Land Range Rover Velar. “You know, this isn’t even impressive anymore.” I said out loud, not really meaning to. He looked at me with a confused expression. “What?” I shook my head. “Nothing that matters.” I replied and sat in the passenger’s seat, while he brought my suitcases to the trunk. After a few moments, he slid into the drivers seat and started the engine to the car. The moment we pulled away, I grabbed my phone out of my purse and turned it on. The percentage was less than 20% now. ”Hey, so you have an extra charger I can use? My phone‘s gonna die if not.” I asked. He nodded and opened the console with his free hand. Without even looking, he rummaged through it and handed me a black phone charger. ”Here. This should be compatible with the phone you have.” He said and I grabbed it from him. I thanked him and closed the console back for him. I plugged the charger into my phone and charged it in the charger which came in the car. Sitting my phone down, I let it charge and get to at least 60%, while I paid close attention to my surroundings and where we were headed. After a while, I ended up taking a nap and hoping that everything would go in the right direction. I didn’t know if I could handle anything else going wrong. I was sure Tristan was probably looking around like a mad-man for me. I didn’t want to hurt him like that, but I had no other choice. If what I was doing now would lead to the betterment of I and this baby, then I don’t regret my decision. The only thing I’d probably regret the most, would be leaving him so heartbroken. But I had to keep a strong composure on my emotions and let all my worries subside, if I want everything to work out. ”Everything is going to plan.” I heard suddenly nearby. Even though my eyes were closed and my consciousness was slowly fading away, my ears were still sharp enough to hear. I kept my eyes closed, but scrunched up my face in confusion. What did that mean? What plan was he talking about. I tried to think about what he would meant by that, but I found nothing. He seemed like a good person with good intentions to help me through this phase in my life. Hopefully, I was right. Because if I wasn’t….then everything I did would be completely doomed. With that thought, I drifted off into a deep sleep and let all my worries and doubts disappear. At least only for a while.
