Chapter 3 Her Strange Mate

1322 Words
Sophia's POV I gaze intently into the eyes of the man who is wrapping his arm around my waist and my heart beats violently and I try my best to keep my emotions at bay. What's going on? Why is my heart beating like this? Why is this handsome creature my mate? Am I getting something wrong? “Did you have to do so much math when you just found your mate?” I heard his deep baritone voice ask me with a chuckle and I was surprised to hear him ask me that. What? Is he pretending? He might be my ex-husband, Darren, because I was sure that I didn't have any other mate in my past life. Not even an admirer. So what is this situation? “Who are you?” I asked fiercely, staring into the gray eyes of the strange man. I didn't believe that he was strange. He could be my ex-husband for all I care. His aura was suppressing and I could already guess that he was an Alpha but I couldn't remember seeing him at any of the gatherings I once attended so what's this? Is he really Darren? Is he the man I have to make his life miserable? “I would be glad to tell you that if you stop being clingy,” he says and I wanted to go full on him but when I noticed I was actually wrapping my hands around his neck my eyes widened immediately at the realization of that. “What? Why am I holding you?” I asked jumping in fright and I tried to calm down and approached the matter rather coolheaded because I just found out that this man was my mate but he also might not be my mate. “Did you get plastic surgery done?” that was my first question facing the man and he looked at me weirdly like I have lose some screw in my head but I was sure I didn't. There was no way the man in front of me was not going to be him. Maybe he got plastic surgery done in this life and this was his way of getting me trapped in marriage yet again “What? Did you not believe that you could get such a handsome man as your mate? Or did yuh think you are not eligible to be my mate?” the man asked with a smirk hitched on his lips and the more I looked at him the more dangerous he looked to me. He was surely different from the cowardly man that I married but that was it, I am not giving in to him. “I am sorry…I think I mistook you for someone else, then I would be taking my leave,” I say, turning around but the man's words halted my steps. “You made a mistake? Why does this sound like you already knew who your mate was? Or could I be wrong?” I heard the man ask and my eyeballs widened in surprise hearing what he just said. I couldn't let him know that I already had little knowledge of who my mate was because I was from the future and I already knew how everything was going to play out for two years now. “No, what are you saying it's just that you are not the one that I think you are,” I say hoping that was going to answer his questions but he was not stopping soon. “Really? Maybe you are right because I am your mate and you are my…” he says, dragging my body to his and I winced in pain at the contact of his body with mine. I looked dumbfoundedly at the man holding my waist and I tried to wrap my hands around what just happened. “What are you doing, mister? Why are you doing this!” I gritted my teeth in anger as I tried to get out of his hold but he didn't let me go and I gave up so I decided to talk sense into him. “Can you please…” I was about to say but his voice suspended my words. “You are just like me…that darkness is second to none, who did you want dead so bad?” he asked me and I blinked profusely hearing what he just said. What? Can he read thoughts? Does he know about everything that is going on in my head? “What are you saying, I want no one to die and there is no darkness around me,” I say, disengaging from him and I try closing my eyes. Maybe there was something giving me away. I can't be found out on my first day back but who is this strange man? Is he perhaps a soothsayer? “Alpha!" I heard someone calling behind him and he turned around, that was my cue to flee away from the place because I knew that man was someone that I should flee from. I ran away from the garden and I only stopped when I saw that I had lost the man which I was sure that I was only kidding myself. He could only choose not to find me but with my scent, I am sure that the man was going to find me yet again. ‘But why are we running away from our mates?’ Elsa purred and I sighed hearing her words but I didn't bother to reply to her questions. “Maybe it's really a bad idea to come to this party altogether. I mean, what is the assurance that I am not going to run into another unreasonable man? “I should better go and stay at the balcony and jilt this party instead,” I said and I walked towards the balcony and the night breeze hit my face as I got to the balcony and I heaved a sigh looking at the sight below. I reminisced about the fact that I was run over by a car the other night after I caught my husband cheating but today…I was lost in thought but my thoughts were suspended by a smell. The sounds of cigarettes wafted into my nose as I stepped into the balcony and I wondered why the cigarette smell was so familiar but I brushed it off as he was just paranoid because I knew there was no way he was out there on the balcony when he should be in the party and the person I knew better than anyone that he was a party animal. “He was such a crazy son of a devil,” I mumbled and I wrapped around my body as the night breeze hit my body and I regretted wearing a strapless dress. I was so occupied with my thoughts that I didn't notice a movement behind me. “You look cold,” I heard a voice behind me and my body turned rigid hearing that voice, I doubted that the voice belonged to him and I was reassured when the person draped a cost over my shoulder. That's not him, he is not a gentleman. At least not in the memories of him that I had. “What a pleasant evening, milady!” the person greeted and I stiffened hearing that familiar voice that I have come to hate so much and my heart beat furiously as I turned to look at the person that was behind me. I turned around only to find my nightmare standing there with a smile. “You! How are you showing up in front of me!” I yelled and I charged towards him in anger but Elsa's next word halted my actions. ‘Mate!’ Elsa purred again and my eyes widened hearing what she said. Mate? Why am I getting so much mate?
