Chapter 8 Operating on autopilot while he did his best to ignore the aching, empty feeling inside, Jon herded the big SUV down the highway to Phoenix, turned it in at the airport rental yard, and took the shuttle to Sky Harbor to catch his flight. He’d timed things perfectly from long practice and in an hour lifted off for LA, the first leg of his journey to his next adventure.
