Chapter 9

1059 Words
Dr. Alexey Nikolaev, just like what Caspian said, arrived after five minutes. He just had a quick conversation with Nurse Karina Steele about the patient before proceeding into her examination. He drew some blood samples for Keila and let her wait for an hour for the result. Although she already knows what kind of result will come in, Keila can't help but be troubled by the things this man, Caspian, will do next. Did he already realize that they slept together? Ah he did! She remembered him asking earlier if she remembers him and she answered with: "Are you the one who helped me in the mart? If so, thanks for—" "Not that." Of course that means he did. How stupid is she? "Miss Keila Forger, right?," the doctor asked again, confirming her identity. He fixed the lenses on his nose bridge that's gradually sliding down and looked up again, straight to Keila's eyes. "Congratulations, you're pregnant. I'm just going to write you some prescription for your vitamins and something for your anemia so that this won't happen again. Does the father know about this?" Keila is about to answer but Dr. Nikolaev just continues talking without waiting for her answers. In the first place, he just asked that out of habit and he's not expecting any response in return. "You should let your family know because it will greatly help you in your pregnancy, especially now that you're in the middle of your first trimester. Morning sickness and cravings will be prevalent and you'll need someone to support you." Caspian glanced at her with animosity that sent shivers to her spine. His face showed no reaction aside from that indifference and split second anger that makes Keila lost in wonder what he is thinking right now. "Is that clear, Miss Forger." "A-ah yes." Keila missed the other things that the doctor said when she began thinking about Caspian. "Then please sign here and you can go now." After they confirmed Keila's condition, they rode back to the mart as per Keila's wish since her car is still parked there. But before that, they ate their lunch and she learned the connection between the three. Caspian is an engineer that is contracted by the husband and wife, Ariana and Julian Steele for the construction of their house. Ariana worked in a general hospital before but she recently quit her job just like her after marrying Julian who is busy with his stock exchange business. "You...what is the story behind that child? You know, my husband and I plan to have a baby by the end of the year when the house is done. Do you have any tips?" Do it with two people? Is that even a tip? Can she say it like she's a crazed s*x addict? She made a quick glance to Caspian but like the stone he is, his face remained unchanging despite the topic. "Uhm..." Keila wants to answer but she's lost on where to start so he just shrugged it and laughed awkwardly. The giggling and happily married Ariana continued talking until they reached their destination. When the couple entered the mart again to finish their shopping, that's when Caspian made his move. "You," he said to Keila with a hint of warning as he blocked her path. "Uh, excuse me," she said, fingers fidgeting on her phone. She's afraid that he'll suddenly lash out at her because of the pregnancy or threaten her to abort the child she already decided to keep. "I also need to finish my grocery shopping, can you...can you let me pass?" Caspian put his hand on his chin and thought for a while. "Give me your address," he commanded and gave his phone for her to enter the details that he wanted. "And add your contact number." Keila did what he told and keyed her details as she fought the tension within her. She gave back the phone but Caspian spoke again. "Name included." "Ah." "Full name." Keila breathed out to strengthen his mental fortitude to keep up on the situation. When he's satisfied, Caspian snatched back his phone and read Keila's inputs. He also called the number to see if she's not faking it and felt full satisfaction only after Keila's personal phone rang. He put it back in his pocket and stared at Keila, thinking about all the things that happened that night with Aiden. If the fetus is in the middle of its first three months then the child is conceived during that time they drank together. He could be the child's father but there's also another factor to consider which is Aiden who shares the responsibility with him. "I'll call you later," he said and left. Keila, dumbfounded on his indifferent attitude, watched his back blankly as he went back inside the car to wait for Ariana and Julian. She's expecting more drama like how Dale got angry but that man is colder than the asphalt in the morning after a thunderstorm. He's an immovable rock that will just age nonsensically. She's still cursing the apathetic man when a pick-up truck parked beside the car that she's driving. It's his father's and from it, his father Wilhelm Forger and another person she doesn't know came down. "What happened? Your mother's hyperventilating in agitation when you didn't come back in time and made a fuss in my farm to come, fetch you here. Why did you not contact us if you're going to be late? She thinks you ran away from home again and blames herself." Keila's jaw fell on his father's litany. She could actually imagine her mother doing all that. "I...ah," she smiled forcibly and scratched the back of her neck, shy on the commotion her mother made. "It's not that much. I just collapsed earlier so they rushed me to a clinic." And she pointed at the cotton that is still plastered on her skin to avoid excessive bleeding. With that, her father sighed in relief. "My god, Keila," he exclaimed and walked to the other person to instruct him to go back to the farm alone 'cause he'll drive his daughter home. "Come on in," Wilhelm said as he opened the car's door for her daughter. "Forget the groceries, I'll just pay Nenita to do that thing next time."
