Matt gave her a squeeze and leaned away to see her face. Sarah looked up at him. Matt’s expression was distraught as he stared into her eyes. He took a quick breath and brushed the hair from her face. Sarah could feel his hand tremble as he touched her cheek with his fingertips.
“All that time, I was looking for you,” he whispered. “My God, girl, I was looking for you.”
The sad regret in his words reflected in his eyes. Sarah put her arms around his neck and they held each other tight. Matt was not demonstrative by nature, but she sensed the ache in his heart as he held her close. His agony felt much stronger than her own pain and Sarah stifled her despair, desperate to comfort Matt.
“You found me,” she assured him, stroking his hair. “And you can have me.”
“Can I have you forever?”
