Its 1975, Abímbólá is getting her 10 year old daughter, Aduke ready for school. Abímbólá is the wife of James, a Rich farmer in the beautiful town of Ayedun. Majority of the inhabitants of Ayedun are farmers, and one of the most successful farmers in Ayedun is James. James and Abímbólá have been married for 7 years but couldn't have a child. After waiting for 7 years, Abímbólá have a beautiful girl, and she was named Aduke. Aduke grew up to be a very bright and brilliant girl and everyone admire her. She is her mother's pride. But James's mother is worried about his son, She wants him to marry another woman so her son can have another child, ...who knows... It can be a son, God works in wonderous ways.... But James love his wife that He disagree with his mother. He believes Aduke is enough, but he also hide his fear of losing his only child. "What if she fall sick and die? Or what if someone hurt her? What if.....James's mother continued, She expressed her worries but James stop her telling her to stay positive. "We all should be praying for her to be great, Maami" James replied. James's mother will send any good young lady that she loves to James, just to change his mind, but in spite of this, James never change his mind. Moji and Shade opened the door and walked in to Aduke's house to see if their friend, Aduke is ready. Moji and Shade are Aduke's friends and classmates who lives in the neighborhood. The three Girls are in primary one. Every morning from Monday till Friday, they will come to Aduke's house and together, the three girls will walk to their school, St. Paul primary school. However, Abímbólá is an English teacher at St. John Grammer school. She is a very nice woman, she is woman with good personality. Who won't enjoy her teachings? It's 2:00pm, on Thursday, the school time keeper rang the bell. It's time for the pupils to return home after the day lessons. Aduke carried her slate and walk to her friend, Moji after Mr. Fadairo the Yoruba teacher left the class. Shade was sitting on the third row in the class, Tunji One of their classmate was holding Shade's slate, and the two pupils began to fight over the slate. Aduke was watching Shade and Tunji, but Moji join Shade, when Tunji saw Moji coming close, he release the slate. He was afraid of Moji. "Why did you release it? You know I will beat you. You are afraid of me right?" Moji said. Tunji gently leaves but not before he smack Shade's head. Aduke was laughing at them as she was standing beside Moji's seat. "We should start going back home" Aduke said. The three girls carried their slate, along with their food bag and head home. After leaving the school area, Aduke raise her voice as she recite what their Yoruba teacher taught them in class. Abebi ati Obe ni awọn omo meji yi, (Abebi and Obe are this children), Abebi wẹ gélé, Obe sí dé fila, (Abebi tie scarf, One wear a cap), Ni ojo kan, (Oneday), Obo kekere kan sí dé ọdọ wọn, (They find a little monkey), won ko mo pe obo oba ni... (They do not know it belong to the king)... Moji interrupt Aduke, as she points to a cashew fruits on the the tree. The three girls walk toward the Cashew tree to pluck the fruits.
