The evening at Ramsgill Observatory had progressed with increasing relaxation. The TV was on constantly, with the live-feed of the spaceship up the road as living wallpaper. News channels were regularly checked, but bore only the anticipated information that ombudsmen were spreading to all corners of the UK, and endless amounts of amateur footage featuring speaking rabbits. Smartphones and wireless connections were still out of action but cable internet was up and running – consequently the global hive-mind was fully aware of the first spaceship, the aliens, and the talking rabbits who, for the most part, were overwhelmed or unhappy.
