The sun was shining brightly through the windows of Liam's office, casting a warm glow over the room. But despite the cheerful atmosphere, Emily couldn't shake the feeling of unease that had settled in the pit of her stomach. Liam's proposal had caught her off guard, and she wasn't sure how to react. Part of her was tempted by the idea of marrying a handsome, wealthy and powerful man like Liam, she already felt wildly attracted to him, she wanted to melt into those arms and have him look at her with those loving blue eyes forever. But, another part of her was screaming in protest, warning her that she was making a huge mistake. He was everything she wanted in a man, everything. He was so tall, so handsome, so powerful, yet kind spoken, a rare combination. There was something about the way he liked at her, but then there was something else. Something she didn't quite know yet.
"I don't know, Mr. Ryder," Emily said, in her tiny, sweet voice "I need some time to think about it."
"What are you doing, Emily?" a voice screamed in her head. ”Time to think about what?, you're not going to think about anything, just say yes”
Liam's expression didn't change, but Emily could sense what seemed like a flicker of annoyance in his eyes. "I'm afraid time is a luxury we don't have, Miss Wilson," he said, his voice low and even. "My grandfather's will stipulates that I must be married within the next four weeks. If I don't comply, the company will be sold to our biggest competitor and the proceeds given to charity."
Emily's eyes widened in shock, her heart pounding in her chest. Four weeks? That was impossible. She couldn't just marry someone she didn't know, no matter how handsome, wealthy and powerful he was. ”Oh Emily, don't be silly” she thought
Maybe this was an opportunity she couldn't afford to pass up. Maybe marrying Liam was the key to securing her family's future and maybe, just maybe Liam was really the love of her life and this was just time and chance playing a mind game on her.
"I'll need some time to think about it," Emily said, her voice firm. "Can I have a few days to consider your proposal?"
He walked over to her, at this point he was standing inches away from her, his breath falling on her face. Emily froze. ”Did I say something I shouldn't have? Oh God, is he mad at me?” her thoughts were going wild as Liam just stood there looking at her. A part of her wanted him to reach out and pull her into his arms, another part of her wanted to turn around and run as fast as possible.
"Very well, Miss Wilson," he said, in a low voice. "I'll give you three days to consider my proposal. But I warn you, I'm not a patient man. I expect an answer from you by the end of the week." He had only wanted to get a better look at her face up close and she was so beautiful. Those eyes, those rossy cheeks, those lips, even the way they quivered a little when she spoke.
Did he scare her? What if she turns him down? He shook off that thought, he couldn't imagine what he would do if she said no to this proposal. He desperately wanted her at this point. He wanted to know what mystery the beautiful Emily Wilson held behind that beautiful face.
Emily nodded, her heart pounding in her chest. She knew that she had to make a decision, and fast. But as she looked at Liam, her heart pounding in her chest both out of fear and excitement. Was she really ready to marry a man like him?
As Emily left Liam's office, she couldn't help but feel a little overwhelmed. She had so many thoughts and emotions swirling around in her head, she didn't know where to begin. So much had happened in the past few minutes she really needed time to process everything. Was it real, did a handsome billionaire just casually ask her to marry him? Is she dreaming? What are the odds?
She walked out of the building and onto the busy streets of the city. The sun was shining brightly, casting a warm glow over everything. But Emily didn't notice. She was too caught up in her own thoughts.
She hailed a taxi and jumped in, she still couldn't stop thinking about Liam. He was so confident, so self-assured. But there was just something about him that seemed off. Something that seemed to be lurking just beneath the surface. Emily shook her head, trying to clear her thoughts. She didn't know what to make of Liam, or his proposal. But she knew she had to make a decision, and fast. They passed by the park where she used to play as a child and she asked the driver to stop. She needed somewhere to think clearly and calm her nerves and this was the right spot. She sat down on a bench, watching as children laughed and played on the swings and slides.
The park was a peaceful oasis in the midst of the bustling city. The trees were green and lush, the flowers were blooming, and the air was filled with the sweet scent of blooming lilacs. As Emily sat there, she felt a sense of calm wash over her. She closed her eyes, taking a deep breath of the fresh air. And as she sat there, she began to think more clearly. She thought about her family, and their struggles. She thought about Liam, and his proposal. And she thought about what she really wanted, deep down. As she sat there, Emily began to feel some sense of clarity. She knew what she had to do, and she was ready to do it.
She stood up, brushing off her pants and taking a deep breath of the fresh air. She felt a sense of calm and clarity that she hadn't felt in a long time. As she walked back home, her mind racing with thoughts and emotions. She felt a sense of excitement and nervousness as she thought about what she was going to do.
As she walked into her apartment, Emily's mother looked up from the couch. "Hey, sweetie, how was your day?" she asked, concern etched on her face.
Emily took a deep breath, trying to gather her thoughts. "It was fine, Mom," she said, trying to sound calm. "I just need to talk to you about something."
Her mother's expression changed, concern etched on her face. "What is it, sweetie?" she asked, getting up from the couch and walking over to Emily.
Emily took a deep breath, trying to gather her thoughts. "It's about Liam Ryder," she said calmly trying as hard as possible not to sound like the turbulence inside her. "He proposed to me today."
Her mother's eyes widened in shock, her face pale. "What?" she exclaimed, her voice shaking with emotion. "Why would he do that?"
Emily shrugged, feeling a sense of uncertainty. "I don't know, Mom," she said. "But I think I'm going to say yes."
Her mother's expression changed, shock and concern etched on her face. "Emily, are you sure?" she asked, her voice shaking with emotion. "You don't even know him."
Emily nodded with a strong determination. "I know, Mom," she said, her voice firm. "But I have to do this. For us. For our future."
As Emily's mother looked at her, she could see the determination in her daughter's eyes. She knew that Emily was a strong-willed person, and once she made up her mind, she wouldn't change it easily.
"Okay, sweetie," her mother said, her voice soft and gentle. "If you're sure this is what you want, then I'll support you. But you have to promise me one thing."
"What's that, Mom?" Emily asked, her eyes curious.
"You have to promise me that you'll be careful," her mother said, her eyes serious. "Liam Ryder is a powerful man, and he's not someone to be trifled with. You have to be careful around him, and make sure you don't get hurt."
Emily nodded, her eyes serious. "I'll be careful, Mom," she said, her voice firm. "I promise."
As Emily and her mother hugged each other tightly, Emily felt a fresh sense of resolve wash over her. She was not sure if she had made the right decision but she was going to find out.
The next few days passed quickly, as Emily prepared for her meeting with Liam. She spent hours researching the Ryder family and their business empire, trying to learn as much as she could about the man she was planning to marry. As she sat in her apartment, surrounded by stacks of books and papers, Emily felt a sense of excitement and nervousness. She knew that her life was about to change in ways she couldn't even imagine.
