Chapter 1-The perfect marriage was a lie
Eliora's POV My life was perfect, that is until the divorce. I'm just a 26 year old living her dream life, in a mansion filled with servants and maids to do almost anything and everything, and an athlete husband every girl would love to have, I couldn't ask for anything more. They say every marriage has cracks. Mine has Champagne, magazine covers, and a husband the whole country admired. So when people called us perfect, I smiled. Everyone always said I had a perfect marriage. They were right, until exactly 9:17 this evening. There are only two kinds of betrayal, the one you expect and the one that smiles while pouring you coffee. What's the last happy moment before everything falls apart? I woke up early this morning. Another day for job searching. “Good morning my love” I heard his smooth, calming voice. “Good morning dear” “I brought you coffee, I think you need to rest, you've been stressing yourself these days” He stared at me with his glazing eyes that radiated nothing but love. “Thats true my darling but I still have to find a job, I can't be jobless dear” I sigh. “How can a graduate be this jobless for so long”, I say to my self “It’ll be fine honey. Eat quickly, I have a surprise for you” “Oh thank you darling” My phone rings . I reach out to answer it, but he stops me “Eat first my love” I smile. He always had a way to make me smile even on my lowest days. “ The food sure tastes good right?” I roll my eyes. “ Yeah, whatever. You always ask this, not like you can cook better than me” “Mmmm, not so sure about that”, he said with a smirk on his face . “Fine it tastes good, happy now?” “I sure am” He smiles. He clears my plates for me as I get up. I rush to the bathroom to get myself ready. “ I should wear something a little special, my husband might just surprise me with another car today”, I giggle as I get myself ready. I sight his car parked outside the garage. “He must be ready”, I rush downstairs as I held on to my channel handbag. “Where's my wife?” I could hear him, he was probably yelling at one of the maids or somewhat. He didn't like waiting. I push the main door open as I run to him “ I'm here!” I yelled and he finally smiles. “ You look beautiful, Mrs Perez. I blush. Ideal. I love it when he calls me by his last name. It made me only want him more. “ Come here darling” He kisses my forehead. “ We're going to be in late if we don't leave this instant” “ Oh, sorry dear. Let's go” The drive was long. We laughed as we chatted and shared hot couple gossips. “ I have a feeling my best friend will get married soon, she's really serious about that boy” I laugh. “ How are you so sure. You know Mandy is one to select” “That's true. I just said that ‘cause I really want both of us to get married. Don't you like the sound of married besties” I chuckle. He stares at me. “You're still so childish dear, how does being married have to do with being bestfriends” “ What!! You dare argue with me!” I look at him and we both burst out laughing. “ We are gonna be so late”, he exclaims. We come across a sign board for an inter- architectural firm competition on the road. I noticed it caught both our attention. He knew I had always wanted to build my own architectural firm. That was my biggest dream. He takes a glimpses at me before looking back at the road . “I know what you want to say” “I've always wanted to have my architectural firm” “ Yes dear, you'll get there don't worry” “ I would hug?” I say while staring bkanklu at the road. “Shitt! The interview. Oh my God I can't believe I forgot” He looks at me then sighs “You scared me.” “ Is that all you have to say! I literally missed another job opportunity” “Yeah whatever babe,I thought we agreed we're driving to get the surprise I said I have for you. You'll probably get another one anyway” My heart stutters. “Are you being serious right now? Yes I know I got carried away by the surprise but could you at least be supportive this time.” “ I am being supportive, don't you see. Forget about the stupid job. It's not like you lack anything anyways” His words slice through me. I refuse to cry. I stare out the car window for the longest time before looking at him again. “ It's okay, Gavin, I’m sorry for causing trouble. I just got a little emotional” “ It's no problem dear, let's just forget about the.. “Yeah, we should” I interrupt him. I didn't want him to say anything stupid or any thing that could break me more. “…argument “ He stares shockingly at me. I became scared. I've never stood up to him before. I've always been the one to agree and to give up everything for him so that I can be his perfect wife. He speeds up the acceleration and refuses to look at me for the rest of the ride . “We've arrived” He said blankly. “Okay” I say without hesitation. “Let's go inside”. The place was big, It had big chandeliers and well dressed waiters with every detail on their fabric on point. It turns out it was a fancy Chinese restaurant. The most popular one in Texas at that. A lot of celebrities came from time to time to this restaurant. He had made special reservations. We walked up to our sit and sat down. The waiter was with us shortly. “ Babe what do you want to eat first” “Anything you order will be fine.” “ Ok. Ok. But there are a lot of things to get, do you want to get all?” “No any would be fine” His voice lowers slightly. “ I'm really sorry for what happened, please don't be mad” “I'm not, really” I stare at him. “ You know what, let's just order their specials for today, then we get your special gift and we go home, I'm exhausted already” I let out a deep breath. “ Okay fine” He gives the waiter something like an eye signal and he leaves. I sight his colleague across the table and call out to him. He walks up to us “ What are you doing here?” I ask him. “You don't greet now?” He rubs my hair and laughs. “Of course I don't why would I ?” I remove his hand from my head. “Why the hassle guys” My husband blurts out “Hassle?” I look directly at him before he breaks eyes contact “Yes” “Oh ,I didn't know your one to talk about hassles and disturbances” My gaze is cold. But my hands are shaking and I hate that he can see it. The second time I stand up to him. I curl my fingers into my palm and force myself to breathe slowly but the air is too tense. Too full of him. His colleague looks at the both of us and turns to leave. “Ummm, this is couple business, I think I should go” “You think?” My breath catches. He leaves. Silence falls. “You're not going to talk now “ “ I thought we were past this Eliora?” “Yeah, you always think everything goes your way in the first place” I lift my chin slightly but shifts my gaze down trying not to cry. I had always been a cry baby and on times like this he would cuddle me and kiss my forehead till I stopped. I still love him, I know I do. “Why is he being so insensitive now”, I say to my self I look up once again with tears in my eyes. “I've always been the one to give up my dreams to be your perfect wife like even my parents advice, why do you have to be the one to not understand” “Don't you see?” “Don't you see how ive been perfect and obedient to you?” My voice starts shaking. “Why. Why do you have to be little my dream like that, you always do it” “ Can you calm down so you don't embarrass me, some people are already looking, you know this could ruin my fame.” “That's all you say? Ruin your fame? Is that all I mean to you?” My voices becomes slightly higher. People start to look out side. He gets mad and drags me out of there. “ We'll go to the car now and talk about this there!” He held hold of me tight. His grip was firm and hurtful that I began to cry. I knew he was angry. Our waiter had returned with the food we ordered and something that looks like an expensive box. I guess it was filled with expensive necklaces and other jewelry. He tried to reach out to Gavin who was still in total control of me. “Forget about it”,he said. “Okay then where should I drop it for you so maybe next time you come you..”, the waiter tried to argue. “You talk too much, Just give it to someone you like” He was fast to reply. He slammed the door open. His colleague we saw earlier was holding a bouquet of flowers so I figured he was part of the surprise. He was aiming to give me the flowers but Gavin interrupted. “Bro, aren't you going to give them to her” “Nevermind, you can go home now” We reach the car and he orders me to get in. I did t know my perfect husband could be so ordering and controlling. But I got in anyway. I didn't want to make matters worst. We both got in. “Whats your problem?” He didn't waste any time. “I asked a question? Whats your problem?” My head is tilted downwards. “ I have offended you today, I said sorry , what else have i dont to deserve this from you?” “ Answer me !” I begin to sob. My breath is shaking. “Now why are you crying ?“ He sighs “Eliora look at me, I said I'm sorry” “You know I don't like it when one makes me mad.” “I'm sorry “ His voice became calm. “My head hurts I think I'll go get coffee.” “No problem, let's just drive there” No. No. “I think I just need space” “Ok thats cool, you can have space at home , you know I can't leave you here it already late.” I clean my tears enough so I can properly look at my watch. “ It's barely past 8, I can manage” “ I said I'm not leaving you here” This time he was speaking out of care. “ If you drop me at the coffee shop near our estate, will you then leave me there” He looks confused but sees that I'm adamant. “Yes”. “ You understand what you're saying right?” “Yes”. The drive there was long and boring. No one said a thing. The complete opposite of what it was when coming. The evening whether was so walm and welcoming. We arrived the coffee shop and I got down, but he got down with me “What are you doing?”, i ask almost immediately. “Let's jsut have coffee together, well made up for today now” “ No, we had a deal! Go home, I'll be back in some minutes “ “Yeah ,but”, he tries to speak but I interrupt “ But I want to have this coffee alone.” He looks at me, the gaze that gives off concern and worry. “‘lll keep my promise, Be back home soon”, he says as he enters the car and drives off. I don't want any coffee. I just needed time to think. Was this the end of my journey? My dream career? I panted as I walked back and forth of the coffee shop. The owner walked up me. He said I had caught his attention. “What's wrong ma’am” he asked *Nothing, I'm just gaining myself space “ He looks at me from head to toe “You look well off. Why would a pretty lady like you be looking so lost at this time?” Well off? My parents were never well off. That's why when they saw the opportunity for me to get married to Gavin, they didn't hesitate one bit. Oh yes. That's the adjective I've got since I got married to my rich husband. Our marriage has brought me a lot of respect too. Maybe I should just go home and apologize. I reach for my bag and begin to walk home. I couldn't help but think “Am I going to remain in that house forever without fufiking my purpose?” “My husband has the resources to support my dream so why wouldn't he?” “ I'm going to go home , apologize and tell him first thing tomorrow, I'm going to look for any architectural firm that will accept me” I smile. I have to start somewhere or then I'll be being too naive. As I walk past the streets, I sight a local food shop at the corner. “ I'll have your most special dish but put it in takeaway” The woman there smiles. “It must be for someone special then, huh?” “ Yes it is.” I smile back. I'm at the front door. It's 9:17pm. I walk upstairs to our room, then I begin to hear voices. Some maids who saw me look at me with eyes of pity and concern. I genuinely become scared. As I reach fire the bedroom, I hear a woman's laughter inside. My hands are shaking. I push the room door open. “What are you doing?” I scream.
