Alpha Antonio’s POV
“Three Patrol wolves were found dead again. Alpha, this is becoming alarming”
“At this rate,we’ll need to impose a curfew to protect the Pack”
“There’s no need to be so hasty Gamma Derrick. Imposing a curfew would cause fear and chaos among the Pack”
“Exactly why we need to do so! The Pack needs to exercise caution, Rhea”
“You will address me as Commander”
“Then act like one!”
“What did you just -
My fist slammed against the desk, glaring at the two bickerers that still haven’t settled their lovers spat.
I did not call in a meeting with my most skilled for a bickering session.
Mother was enough already.
They glared at each other from across the table.
Ignoring their pettiness, I glanced over to my Beta and most trusted friend.
“Do we have an idea who caused these deaths, Dominic?”
I knew the answer but hoped to the Moon goddess it wasn’t.
“The safest and most likely cause should be Rogues but these deaths were too clean. The only wound on their bodies were knife marks”
His brows furrowed like he was trying to make sense of it.
Knowing Dominic, he had already begun piecing these in like a puzzle.
Rogues were messy killers.
And most importantly could not turn back to their human form.
Except…..
Rhea let out a scoff
“ You can’t possibly mean they were killed by the Elite Assassins?”
“Maybe it was just one assassin,” Derrick interjected.
Ruin.
The infamous assassin whose identity remains unknown.
Not for long though.
I would like to meet the man striking fear in the hearts of the Council.
“What would Ruin gain from killing our Pack patrol? ”
As much as I hated to admit it, Rhea was right.
Dominic was still deep in thoughts, pen and paper in hand now.
Derrick snapped his fingers
“What about the scent left on the bodies?”
Interesting..
“What scent?” I asked, my tone sharper than intended
Dominic placed his pen on the paper, leaning forward
“Well, we know the Elites Assassins never kill in their wolf form to avoid leaving trails and they still take precautions by masking their scents but here’s where it gets tricky, there was a foul scent at the scene”
“Foul scent?” Rhea repeated, sharing the same confused look as I.
“Yes, there was -
A knock sounded.
My lips pressed into a line.
There was a reason why I had my meetings in my study.
No interruptions unless necessary and this better be necessary.
“Come in”
Grace entered, her gloved hands matted in blood, strands of blonde hair escaping from her tight bun.
“Alpha” she bowed slightly
“I suppose the reason you’re here is urgent?” She must have noticed my irritation because she bit her lip but nodded
“I sent James out for medicinal herbs around the base of the mountain and he brought back a half dead human lady”
“ A.. what??”
Derrick exclaimed
“You know humans are not exactly our kind” Dominic stated, his tone firm but soft as he reprimanded his sister.
“Yes but, I couldn’t leave her to die, I’m a healer not a killer.” She defended, bringing her gaze back to mine her tone became meek
“ I just - I have done all I can to save her and she is in a rather precarious position but you are the Alpha and your say is final afterall”
Bringing in a human girl was a stupid thing to do regardless the deed had been done
“Where is she?”
“ In my quarters,”
A brow rose at that
“It’s just - the other patients were being too nosy and I didn’t want rumors by the end of the day” She clarified, mumbling some of her words.
Derrick burst into laughter, he waltzed over to Grace and patted her head
“Wow Grace, you’ve thought of everything huh?”
I glared at his encouraging smile and stated dryly
“ Almost like she has everything under control”
The silent reprimand didn’t go unnoticed as a faint hue spread across her cheeks
“My apologies Alpha”
Rhea rolled her eyes, probably tired of breathing the same air as Derrick
“Well, can we go see the human or are we deciding Grace’s punishment now?”
“P-punishment??” Grace stuttered, her pleading gaze moved to her brother.
“We’ll proceed to her quarters first” I sighed out, walking towards the door and ignoring her hushed pleas to Dominic.
Heads bowed reverently as I passed, causing a frown upon my face
I knew I was hated more than loved, I had to dispose of laws I found self destructive and imposed new laws that caused an uproar from the Council.
Still, they knew when to shut up,this was my Pack after all.
The Elders of the pack though weren’t so quiet about voicing their contempt.
“Alpha,”
I turned to Grace’s worried face
“It would be most appreciated if you could maintain proper decorum around her. She needs all the rest she can get”
A frown formed as she spoke softly, almost like she pitied the poor woman.
I nodded though she already slipped inside
I followed, the scent of lavender and rose petals filled the room
Rhea coughed dramatically “Geez, I think I swallowed a rose”
Grace rolled her eyes then mumbled “you look like you needed one anyway”
My gaze moved along the small figure almost hidden with the many blankets around her on the bed.
My surprise must have shown on my face cause Grace opened her mouth again but I didn’t wish to hear any of it.
Something about the human girl drew me in.
Yes, she was beautiful with striking red hair and delicate features but it was the details and scent.
She looked so fair and fragile yet her hands were callused. Small cuts littered the tips of her fingers.
The little I could see of her neck was bright pink like a rash breakout .
And her damn scent.
It had been a long time since my wolf purred.
She smelled -
“Wrong. Something is wrong here, she doesn’t smell human yet doesn’t have the wolf scent” Dominic stated, his brows raised suspiciously.
-Interesting. Delightfully interesting.
My hands reached forward almost instinctively, brushing away tendrils of luscious hair from her closed eyes
Little Redhead
Almost like I pulled her out of her slumber, a tight grip coiled round my wrist, my eyes clashed with icy blue ones .
Except -
They were too bright to be human-like .
