Lyssandra’s POV.
“Alpha”
Grace bowed slightly, drawing my attention to the movement at the doorway.
I didn’t bother greeting.
I couldn’t.
Not when I knew who stood before me.
The Alpha of BloodMoon Pack.
The son of my family’s murderer.
The man I spent 15 years of my life training to kill.
A sharp sting shot through my fingers.
I glanced down.
The chopsticks had been snapped clean in two beneath my grip.
Good.
The sticks were enough to kill him and be done.
One swift strike, mission accomplished.
I may be outnumbered but I had the element of surprise.
Eyes closed,I listened.
Four heartbeats.
One opportunity. A daunting pause.
A hundred and one unfavorable outcomes.
This was definitely not the time.
With practiced calm, I released my grip. My muscles loosened as I straightened.
Slowly I lifted my head, finally placing a face to my mission.
Grey eyes met mine, the intense gaze resembled a fiery storm mixed with an emotion I could not quite place.
No amount of training could have prepared me for the strange warmth that spread through my veins.
Not pain.
Not fear.
Something far worse.
It warred violently with the disgust already twisting inside of me.
No,
Not him.
Anyone, anyone but him.
I knew what this feeling was.
The Order called it the bane of an assassin.
People called it the greatest gift from the Moon Goddess.
I call it a curse.
The mate bond.
My stomach churned. The Moon Goddess couldn’t possibly be this cruel.
Why, why do I get to have a mate?
I had no wolf.
I killed for a living.
I do not believe in the Moon Goddess.
So why would she choose me?
Not after everything.
Not after all the blood I had shed to get here.
A bitter laugh escaped my lips as I held his gaze.
The disgust in my eyes clear for the world to see.
His jaw tightened. Good.
Let him suffer.
Just like The Order had said - She just loved playing us like her little pawns when bored.
And Ruin was no one’s pawn.
“Uh…. Alpha,what’s.. going on?”
His eyes turned feral, the grey of his irises had melted away replaced by molten silver that glowed with a dangerous calm.
They weren’t just any wolf’s eyes.
They belonged to an Alpha.
Something in them darkened as though he was ….offended by my quiet rejection.
Before I could make sense of his reaction, heavy footsteps closed the gap between us.
“What did you do to the Alpha?” Big hands clamped down on my shoulder in a vise like grip.
A low threatening growl shook the room
My eyes rolled at the dumb dog that had the gall to touch me.
My hand moved before I replied, his arm was twisted behind his back.
“I suggest you keep your hands to yourself Bruno” pushing him away from me with a harsh shove.
I looked back at the struggling Alpha, his fists were clenched, shoulders bunched as if he could turn any moment.
Bruno must have realized how serious it could get because his hazel eyes went wide in panic.
But just as swiftly as it came, it left.
My brows drew together.
His eyes took on its stormy shade of grey, his muscles still as wound as they came but he offered a tight smile
“ Welcome to BloodMoon Pack, I am Alpha Antonio and these are my Beta and Gamma,”
He gestured to Bruno “Beta Dominic,”
I kind of like Bruno better than Dominic.
He nodded but his glare never left my face even as he rubbed the spot his arm was twisted.
I didn’t even put in any effort.
“Gamma Derrick,” The Alpha continued, monotonously.
Derrick reminded me of a Cheshire Cat, he smiled too widely .
And it made me sick, literally.
He stepped forward, a low growl had him backing up
“You are officially my favorite human, I don’t think I’ve ever seen any one move that fast and best of all, put Dominic in his place”
He grinned even more than I thought was possible
Dominic glared at him, muttering under his breath “If she is even human”
A low rumble escaped from the Alpha, as if warning everyone to shut up.
Derrick brows went up, his eyes moving from me to his Alpha.
A smirk formed on his lips like he just discovered a secret.
“What is your name?”
He was the enemy and I hated him but his deep, gravelly voice had my body humming with unwanted warmth.
Almost like something in me wanted to purr.
Has my celibacy taken its toll on me?
“Not your business” I snapped.
Fed up with this strange feelings and faces.
One looked like he was having fun just being here.
Another looked like he was two seconds from throwing me into the dungeon.
And Grace, dear sweet Grace had almost blended into the wall with how taut her back was pressed into it.
I needed to get out of here, my mission would have to hold till I got myself in order.
“ You do not speak to the Alpha that way, human.” Dominic, the assigned watchdog, barked out taking a large step towards me.
An angry growl rumbled through the room like thunder.
The silver had bled back into his irises again.
Antonio drew a slow breath, his jaw flexing as though he was forcing something back.
His eyes staying focused on me.
“You do not want to know what an Alpha does to humans like you”
Dominic snapped
“Then you’re clearly a fool for thinking that’s the reason he looks like he wants to rip you to shreds”
I replied calmly, my chin gesturing to the possessive look in Antonio’s eyes
“She might be unto something, Bruno” Derrick chimed in, earning a scowl from Dominic.
“Enough.”
The single word fell heavily over the room.
The quiet authority forcing everyone to bow their heads while I stared at them.
Derrick’s grin faded
Even Dominic’s scowl turned solemn.
And Grace looked whiter than I was, that was not a compliment in any case.
“No one speaks unless I tell them to”
“But Alpha -
“Dominic. Stand down.”
“But she -
“She is our guest and will be treated as such.” Antonio answered, his eyes never leaving mine
“Guest?? She almost broke my arm”
Get over it, Bruno.
“ That was not a request, Beta Dominic”
Dominic froze, then nodded backing away.
He prowled forward, my stance remained even when he got uncomfortably close.
“What is your name?”
