The bastard who had kept Adrian away from her was surely going to pay and then rot in hell. How dare he answer her husband's phone and say such things? But then, who could've been close enough to even touch Adrian's personal phone without him noticing? Adrian was not exactly the most approachable person; he rarely smiled, always had a dark, omnious expression on his face and his demeanor was ever aloof and cold, especially towards people he is not really close to. Adrian was especially scary when someone was nearing his private space, he was fiercely possessive and a huge germophobe with an overall dislike of creatures called humans, so he would have never let anyone touch his phone or anything of his. Even his secretary Brian Stanley knows not to even look at it.
It had to have been Debra Knightley, that wicked witch! Debra was a cunning old hag who unfortunately happened to be Adrian's mother. Debra sneered at her and gave her a withering look before she could even introduce herself to her the very first time they met.
"The little beauty wants to sleep her way to riches." Vivienne could still vividly remember Debra's snide comment, one she made while her eyes rakad down her body like she was appraising her worth.
Only Debra Knightley could answer Adrian's phone and get away with it and only she hated Vivienne strongly enough to say such mean things.
Vivienne couldn't have gotten it more wrong!
"Like I said-" Nurse Becky was interrupted by Dr Yale walking in and Vivienne could tell that was relieved and gladly welcomed the interruption. Now it was up to poor Dr Yale to break the news to Vivienne.
"Mrs Knightley-"
"Who consented my surgery then?" Vivienne interjected before the doctor could continue.
"Your husband was unavailable so we used your emergency contact, your mother and she consented. One of your kidneys is badly damaged, you have as good as lost it, you broke several ribs but the metal chunk missed all the vital organs by a miracle. You are extraordinarily lucky to be alive. The surgery was successful but there's still a chance some life- threatening complications might arise, so this is a very delicate time for you. You should focus all your energy on recovering."
Dr Yale was surely a very honest, straightforward man, Vivienne thought to herself. Too bad his words were just flying over her head. She could not stop thinking about Adrian and he was going to occupy her mind and take up all of her attention if she does not see him soon. How hard was it for them to bring her husband to her? It was frustrating that she could not get out of this bed.
"Wait… did you say my mother?!" Vivienne looked at the doctor dreadfully. Michelle Hunt was not a mother at all and was a despicable creature she had told herself she'll never see again.
How come she still had her as an emergency contact?
"Yes, we contacted Mrs Hunt…." Dr Yale went quiet for a moment, as though he was rephrasing the words he initially planned on saying. "At least she answered her phone and didn't hang up on us. I'll schedule you for physical therapy in a few days and if you would want to get started on psychotherapy, our resident therapist will gladly see you."
Vivienne was in a daze yet again and Dr Yale eventually realised that he was not going to get through to her at all and let her be. He wondered if the nurses had broken the news to her yet as he walked out of the room.
