They are lying

A bright flash shone through the starkest darkest before combusting into cosmic dust that set Vivienne's hazel eyes alight. With a sharp gasp, Vivienne's eyes shot open and her body jerked forward but she was quickly held down before she could fully sit up, albeit gently. It took Vivienne a moment to take in her surroundings and remember exactly how she had found herself in this hospital room and was not waking up in her bedroom at the Knightley Manor. "Have some water, Mrs Knightley." A young, petit woman who looked to be her age spoke to her softly and handed her a glass of water as though she were an unruly toddler about to throw a tantrum. Vivienne opened her mouth to speak but the brunette nurse quickly hushed her by holding up her hand. "Take slow sips, very gently, that's it. You should try not to strain yourself at all, you've been through a lot. You're very lucky to be alive." Vivienne took slow sips as she was told, she needed the water to wet her throat and prepare it to speak more than to deal with the uncomfortable dryness of her throat and the minor feeling of dehydration. Vivienne noticed how swiftly the nurses rushed to her side at the slightest movement she made. She noted that they really did not want her to sit up. As much as she noted that she had all sorts of tubes attached to her and her lower stomach was constantly assaulted by a stinging pain. "The doctor will be with you shortly." Nurse Becky checked her vitals and adjusted her pillow. Before she left, she tucked Vivienne in nicely and reminded her of her responsibilities as a patient towards her recovery. "You should not do anything that will put strain on your body and be careful to avoid sudden, vigorous movements because your stitches might rip open and that will be excruciatingly painful. We are going to take care of you and guide you through recovery the best we can, but you should also take care of yourself, Mrs Knightley." "Wait," Vivienne rasped out before the nurse could turn her back to her, "where's my husband? Did he come see me last night? Did you tell him that I'm awake?" Adrian was still nowhere to be seen and Vivienne was beginning to get worried. It didn't appear that he had visited her, otherwise he would have left her flowers and cute stuffed toys because he knows that combination always makes her feel better. Vivienne read the time on the clock on the wall and realised that she had missed the first dose of her anemia medication and had not yet taken any of her pregnancy supplements- "We will discuss that later. You should focus on yourself and your recovery is first priority." Nurse Becky replied, barely looking her in the eyes. Why was she deflecting? Now Vivienne was seriously concerned. "I know, but please answer me, did my husband come visit me? Ohhh… he must've been so worried waiting for my surgery to be done…" Vivienne's heart ached when she thought about Adrian waiting helplessly for the doctors to tell him if she made it out or died on the table- No. She did not want to think about such dark, depressing things, she did not know what she would do if she was unable to give Adrian the news that they are going to be parents, that he is going to be a first time father. As soon as she sees him, she was going to blurt it out- "I'm pregnant, honey." "Your husband didn't come, Mrs Knightley… in fact… when we called him to consent the surgery, another person's voice ans-" Nurse Becky hesitated for a bit but decided not to tell her that the person was a woman, "answered his phone and told us he was too busy to deal with your nonsense, then they hung up and turned off the phone." "What?" Vivienne's mood deflated entirely. "He really didn't come? I was dying…no…" she shook her head decisively, ignoring the fierce urge to rip off all the tubes and bolt out of this hospital. "No, Adrian did not say that… that bastard must have not told him that I was in the hospital dying… please call him again, he'll come. Adrian is my husband, he'll never be too busy for me. Please, I need him here." Vivienne pleaded, all she wanted was to have her husband by her side through this hard time.
