Betrayed, broken, and left with nothing, Alexander Kane witnessed the downfall of his family at the hands of one man: Victor Hale. From this day on, he vowed to destroy everything the man loved.

Amelia Hale has lived a quiet life, far removed from the dark world of her father’s power. She has lived a life of kindness, gentleness, and independence. She has only ever known a quiet life. But when scandal strikes the Hale family, Amelia’s world begins to crumble.

In her quest to save the family she loves, Amelia makes an impossible decision. She must marry the man she has barely met. The man who makes her nervous. The man who has secrets.

This was not about love. This was about revenge. Cold. Distant. Unreadable. Alexander Kane sees Amelia Hale as nothing more than a means to an end. But the more he gets to know Amelia Hale, the more his plans begin to fall apart. Her kindness makes him question. Her strength makes him nervous. But for the first time in his life, revenge does not sound quite as clear.

Secrets have a way of coming to the surface.

When Amelia discovers the truth about her marriage to Alexander Kane, she feels like her world has been destroyed. The man she has come to love is the same man who sought revenge on her.

Will she turn her back on him before it is too late?

Or will love grow from the hurt?

Because in the world of revenge, somebody gets hurt.

Chapter One
It was a scream of astonishment, rather than a scream of terror. Alexander Kane raised his head from behind the glass walls of his office, his face stoic as ever and eyes sharp and focused as he surveyed the scene before him. Suits bumped and crashed against one another frantically as they shouted into their phones, panic setting in. The great monitors of the past that reflected his family's supremacy were now bleeding red numbers, with each digit chipping away at the family's power. Alexander stood up, calm and composed, though his heart was already racing fast in his chest, pounding heavily against his ribs. He was moving closer to the window, and his reflection was looking back at him, a man with a strong jawline and a composed face, but something was brewing inside him that he couldn’t quite understand. His phone vibrated in his hand, and without glancing at the screen, he knew instantly who was calling. He answered it right away and pressed it to his ear while keeping his eyes locked onto the empire that was falling apart before him. “Tell me this is temporary,” he said into the phone, already bracing himself for the response he was not going to like. On the other end, Alexander’s father’s voice came through, strained and unsteady in a way that Alexander had never heard before, and that alone was enough to cause a cold feeling to settle deep within his chest. “Alex… " It’s over,” the older man said, each word dragging across the line like they were being pulled through defeat. “They’ve frozen everything. Accounts, assets, all of it. We can’t move anything.” Alexander’s hand on the phone whitened as his mind spun, trying to find logic and find control within a situation that seemed to have none. “Who?” Alexander asked, even though he knew that it didn’t matter, even though he knew that within himself, a name had already formed in his mind, sharp and undeniable. There was a pause, heavy with something that sounded very much like guilt, and when his father’s voice came again, it was softer, almost broken. “Victor Hale.” The name was like a punch to the stomach, and Alexander’s eyes went wide as he stilled himself, the world around him blurring to a distant haze. Victor Hale: business partner, loyal companion, man who’d sat at their dinner table, laughed with them, raised glasses to toast to their success, and talked of loyalty as though he knew what the word truly meant. Alexander’s jaw clenched slowly, his breathing measured and controlled, but inside him, something was opening up, something raw and savage. “That’s not possible,” he said, though he knew nothing of certainty. “He wouldn’t, he couldn’t do this without consequences.” He didn’t leave any room for consequences,” his father replied, the pain of betrayal evident in his voice. Alexander’s heart skipped a beat, the pain of it enough to make him wince as he processed the information. “You didn’t sign anything,” he said quickly, almost sharply, as if he refused to allow the implications to sink in. “Tell me you didn’t sign those documents.” The line was silent for a while, the lack of helplessness that made something inside Alexander twist painfully. “I didn’t… but it won’t matter. They already have a warrant out for my arrest.” However, before Alexander could respond, the doors to his office swung open, and the sudden movement snapped him back to the present, as one of his senior executives entered the room, pale and visibly shaken. “Mr. Kane, federal agents are here,” the man stated, his voice barely above a whisper, as if the mere act of stating the words aloud made them all the more believable. Alexander did not respond to this news; instead, he stood there, suspended in time, as if the world had come to a complete standstill, his hand still clutched tightly around the phone. On the other end of the line, his father breathed slowly and deeply, as if accepting his fate and realizing that there was nothing he could do to alter the course of events. “Listen to me,” he stated softly. Whatever happens next, you have to stay strong; you are all that’s left now. The following moments passed with a precision that cut through everything Alexander had ever known. He watched from afar as his father was led away in handcuffs, surrounded by cameras capturing every angle, every look, every last shred of dignity and pride being taken away from him under the unyielding glare of the public eye. Reporters were calling out accusations, their tones biting and unrelenting, flinging words such as fraud, corruption, and crime into the air as if they were carved in stone. Alexander stood there, unblinking, unyielding, and unreadable, yet his eyes held a look that was far more sinister than one could imagine. This wasn’t a man falling from power; this was a man being destroyed with precision and calculated cruelty.
