Hua Mei gazed at the magnificent altar in the center of the room, her fear mixed with an ever-growing determination. The dim light emanating from the altar created a mysterious atmosphere, as if it were hiding many secrets yet to be revealed. Each step she took felt heavy, as though the ground beneath her feet wanted to hold her back. But her desire to uncover the truth was stronger than the fear that enveloped her.
“Zhang Rui, what should I do?” she asked in a low voice, trying to calm herself.
Zhang Rui stood behind her, looking at the altar seriously. “Every trial here is designed to test one’s soul and intentions. If your heart is not pure, you will not be able to uncover what is hidden here.”
Hua Mei nodded, gathering her courage. She approached the altar and noticed an ancient inscription etched upon it. It looked like a mantra or a clue, but she couldn’t understand it. “I don’t know what it means,” she murmured, trying to steady herself.
Zhang Rui stepped forward, inspecting the inscription closely. “This is an ancient language. I can only catch fragments of its meaning. But I know it is related to sacrifice and inner trials.”
Hua Mei’s heart raced. She recalled the long journey she had taken, all the suffering she had endured, and all the people she had met. She knew that whatever she faced now, it was part of her destiny.
With steady steps, Hua Mei moved closer to the altar and touched its surface. As soon as her fingers made contact with the cold stone, a subtle vibration spread throughout her body. For a moment, her vision blurred, and the world around her seemed to disappear.
Suddenly, she found herself in a pitch-black space. The sound of howling winds echoed loudly, and unrecognizable shadows moved around her. Hua Mei felt the grip of fear tighten around her. She wanted to scream, but her voice was silenced by the overwhelming terror.
In the midst of the darkness, a small light appeared, slowly moving toward her. Hua Mei felt a strong pull to follow the light, despite the growing fear. She knew this was part of the trial she had to face.
Step by step, she followed the light. As it drew closer, its shape became clearer. It was a small, shimmering fireball, floating gracefully in the air. Hua Mei was fascinated, yet there was a sudden sense of comfort that flowed through her.
“Don’t be afraid,” a soft voice whispered from the direction of the light. “Follow me, and you will find the answer.”
Hua Mei stared at the fireball, her heart, which had been filled with doubt, now brimming with a strong curiosity. She carefully followed the fireball, knowing this was part of the inner journey she had to undertake.
The fireball moved faster, leading Hua Mei to a place filled with dark shadows. In the center of this place, a large mirror stood tall. Hua Mei moved closer and saw her reflection on its surface.
But as she gazed longer, her reflection began to change. The face she knew started to fade, replaced by the image of a woman who was very similar to her, though older, with sharp eyes filled with wisdom.
“Who is she?” Hua Mei asked, her voice trembling.
The woman in the mirror smiled, her smile full of mystery. “I am a part of you. I am the power that has been dormant within you, the power you must recognize in order to overcome this trial.”
Hua Mei felt something stir inside her. She tried to approach, but the reflection moved away. “What power? What should I do?”
The woman in the mirror looked at her meaningfully. “Your power lies in your courage to face the truth, even if it may destroy you. If you can fully accept yourself, you will find the answer.”
With those words, the woman’s image disappeared, leaving Hua Mei standing before an empty mirror. Confusion and anxiety gripped her again. What did all this mean?
“Wait,” a voice suddenly spoke from behind her. Hua Mei turned and saw Zhang Rui standing at the entrance of the cave. “What did you see in there?”
Hua Mei explained what she had experienced, but Zhang Rui remained silent for a moment, reflecting on her words. “That was your inner trial. Your power is not just in physical ability or what you’ve learned, but in your ability to fully accept yourself—even your weaknesses.”
Hua Mei nodded slowly, feeling a bit calmer. Although this trial was difficult, she knew it was part of the journey to uncover the truth she had been searching for.
Suddenly, the light around them began to dim, and a rumbling sound echoed again. Zhang Rui reached out his hand, pulling Hua Mei along. “We have to leave here. Our time is limited.”
They ran back toward the altar. But before they could take another step, a voice echoed in Hua Mei’s heart—a voice that felt strangely familiar.
“Your courage has just been tested, Hua Mei. But your journey is far from over. There are more secrets waiting to be revealed.”
Hua Mei grasped the necklace around her neck, feeling as though the voice came from within herself. She knew that this long, mysterious journey was just beginning.
