CHAPTER THIRTY-FOUR JUNE 22, 9:30 AM ARIZONA REPUBLIC NEWSPAPER Wednesday goes by uneventfully. I sit in my office most of the day and try and dream up different angles that I can use for the church robbery story. Since it is not being solved quickly, I need to keep the story in the public eye. I still can’t figure out why anyone, let alone kids, would want a statue of Father Assisi. Daily, I try and give the Phoenix readers a blow-by-blow description of what the police department is doing to find the criminals. Also, I try and keep them updated on Father Nicolai’s progress. The Phoenix people love him and want to know, hopefully, that he is improving. I try and give a daily update in my column. Unfortunately, not much to report there.
