CHAPTER THIRTY-FIVE JUNE 23, 9:30 AM ARIZONA REPUBLIC NEWSPAPER Thursday is hot, even for Phoenix. Approximately 120 degrees during the day. This is a record for this time of year, or at least that is what the weathermen are saying. I think they just want us to feel better. Pretty hot and sweaty. Uncomfortable weather. I stay close to my desk all day, really not wanting to venture out in the heat. I have had my share of hot weather. Let some of the young reporters go out in the heat to find their stories that they hope will make them star reporters. I hit the telephones instead, a great invention, and make my contacts on most days now. Saves a lot of gas which has gotten expensive.
