CHAPTER 1
Seraphinas POV The forest whispered with the rustle of leaves and the occasional hoot of an owl, but within the shadows of Alpha Kael’s stronghold, the night was anything but serene. The cold light of the crescent moon cast eerie patterns on the stone walls, illuminating the despair that permeated the place. Among the dimly lit corridors, I moved like a ghost, my body a testament to the relentless torment I had endured. Once, I had been the proud Luna Heir of my once noble pack, but now I was nothing more than a broken vessel, Kael’s plaything, his symbol of ultimate conquest. Each step I took echoed with the memories of that dreadful night when Kael had descended upon her pack with savage fury, leaving nothing but blood and ashes in his wake. My pack, my family, my beloved mate Damian, had all been slaughtered. I had been spared, but only to suffer a fate worse than death. Tonight was no different. As I so desperately tried to remain in the shadows, Kael’s voice, dripping with malice, called out through the hall. "Seraphina! Get in here, now!" his tone was enough to make my blood run cold, but I had no choice. Disobedience only brought more pain. As I entered his room, my body trembled with fear. I saw Kael lounging in a chair, a cruel smile playing on his lips. His eyes gleamed with a perverse pleasure at the sight of me. “There you are,” he said, his voice a sickly sweet mockery of kindness. “I was beginning to think you’d run off. But where would you go? You have nothing left”. He was mocking her, it was a daily ritual for him. My heart pounded in my chest. I stood before him, trying to summon whatever shreds of dignity I had left. But Kael would never allow that. With a sudden movement, he was upon me, his hand striking my face with such force that I stumbled and fell to the ground. It was so unexpected and for a second I lost my breath, I struggled to find my breath as I wiped away tears from my eyes. It was embarrassing as a werewolf to be affected that much by a slap. I am weak. “Get up!” he snarled. “We’re not done.” Dazed, I pushed myself up, my body screaming in protest. Kael’s eyes bore into her, filled with a sadistic glee. “You think you’re so special, don’t you? The Luna Heir, destined for greatness. Look at you now, nothing more than a pathetic, broken creature.” He suddenly kicked my stomach, the impact driving the breath from my lungs. “You’re worthless,” he hissed. “A reminder to every one of my power, my victory over your weak, pathetic pack.” Tears welled in my eyes, not just from the physical pain but from the emotional agony of his words. I had once been strong, proud. Now, I was reduced to this—a shadow of my former self, a weak wolfless girl living only to endure Kael’s cruelty. Kael grabbed my hair, yanking my head back so that I was forced to look at him. “Do you know why I keep you around, Seraphina?” he asked, his voice a dangerous whisper. “It’s not because you’re useful. It’s because every time I look at you, I’m reminded of my victory. You’re my trophy, my proof that I am invincible.” He threw me to the ground again, laughing as I cried out in pain. “Get out of my sight,” he said, his voice suddenly cold.“And don’t think for a second that you can escape. You belong to me.” I crawled away, my body trembling. I made my way down the hall to the abandoned part of the pack house to my small, dingy room that had become my only safe space, each movement a torment. Once inside, I curled up on the floor, tears streaming down my face. How much longer could I endure this? How much longer before there was nothing left of me at all? Tears welled in my eyes, not just from the physical pain but from the emotional agony of his words. But Kael’s torment didn’t end with him. He had his loyal second hand, Vincent, and third in command, Mace, who relished the opportunity to break me further. Vincent, with his piercing blue eyes and a sadistic streak, was often the first to inflict punishment. I was still licking my wounds when I heard footsteps. I already knew who it was before I saw him. Vincent appeared with his sadistic smile and, without a word, he dragged me from my room all the way to the front yard of the pack , throwing me to the ground before some of Kael’s pack members, their laughter a cruel chorus. “Look at the mighty Luna Heir now,” Vincent sneered, his boot pressing down on my back.“Beg, Seraphina. Beg for mercy.” I didn’t even think of disobeying his order. The first and last time I did cost me two broken ribs and a split lip “Spare me… I beg you “I whispered, my throat sore from tears. I was struggling to hold back. Vincent roared with malicious laughter as he stared down at me. He played a significant role in breaking me and he knew it. Mace, larger and more brutal, followed Vincent’s lead, his fists landing heavy blows on my already bruised body. “You’re nothing but a weak, pathetic w***e! It is who you are and nothing will ever change that. You disgust me.” his voice, a low rumble that sent shivers down my spine. The crowd laughed and threw things at me, I was a thing for public ridicule, a game to pass time. Their words cut deeper than any physical wound, each insult a reminder of my helplessness. They took pleasure in my suffering, their cruelty, a sport that bound them together in their perverse pack. My vision blurred with tears, my body trembling with pain and exhaustion. I wanted to fight back, to reclaim her dignity, but every attempt was met with more brutality. I’m trapped in a cycle of torment, my spirit is slowly being eroded by their relentless cruelty. I was able to make it back to my room without any more beating. As the night wore on and i lay in my cramped, square room , the walls closing in around me. I thought of my family, my pack, and my dead mate Damian and my heart squeezed in agony, i wanted to die , the pain of a lost mate was so deep and beyond comprehension, but she hadn’t lost her mind or even died like she expected to . It was as though the universe was purposely left her to suffer . I slowly drifted off into yet another night of nightmares
