This time, he wasn’t talking in his sleep. He was awake, he was alert. As soon as I watched his body move into a sitting position, I turned and ran. I expected this to happen but I still had the nerve to hope that it wouldn’t. I let out a loud shriek as my feet found the first step of the stairs and I had to grip onto the railing for dear life as I almost went down face first. It was like I lost all strength in my left ankle and my big toe cramped up at the same time. My body slid along the railing the whole way to the bottom as my feet fumbled on each step.
