Natasha's POV
I laid down flat on my bed, just staring at the ceiling.
I couldn't even sleep last night, and with good reason. Last night, stepping into that building was the worst mistake of my life.
As if finding out werewolves were real was horrific enough, now I have to mate an Alpha today.
How much my life changed in less than a day.
Just then, someone barged into my room.
I snapped my head, a man, no… another werewolf.
He turned towards me, his eyes filled with regret.
He looked so familiar, but I couldn't just trace it.
“I'm sorry about everything. I really am. All this is my fault.”
The man dropped to a knee, apologizing.
And then it hit me. The guy from the bar.
Just then, I felt a boiling rage stirr up. All this was his fault.
He gave me that card. It was him.
“Why did you give me that card?!” I snapped. “... So you knew. You knew they were werewolves, yet to served him up there to die.”
“No, I didn't think they would hurt you. If I knew I wouldn't have sent you there.
But I had to. You are Damien’s mate and as his beta.. “
“You're a werewolf to, huh?” I cut him off.
“Yes.” he answered in a small voice.
“You ruined my life!” I said sharply. “You knew about what I've suffered in the past yet you brought me here to fuel up my misery.”
“I'm sorry. I really am. I wish there's a way I can make up for this.”
“You can. By helping me escape.”
He froze. His eyes cracked wide open. “I can't..”
“Why not? You put me in this mess you can get me out.”
I snapped at him again.
“It's dangerous.”
“I don't care. I can't stay here!”
He hesistated, lowering his head. “Fine.”
‘Yes! Thank you.”
And for the first time in this mansion, I tugged a smile.
He rose to his feet, his shoulders firm and high.
“Wait and hour and come out of my room. And maybe for future reasons, my name is Luca.”
An hour? Maybe the longest hour of my life.
I watched as Luca walked out of my room.
I snapped my head to the wall clock hung above, my eyes fixed on it.
Minutes went by and then… an hour.
I didn't waste time.
I slipped out of my room, my bare feet silent against the cold floor.
Luca was already waiting in the hallway, his expression unreadable, but his sharp eyes scanned our surroundings.
He gave a slight nod, and I followed him, careful to keep my steps light.
The mansion was eerily quiet at this hour.
My heart pounded with every step as we moved through the hallway.
Halfway down the hall, the soft creak of a door made me freeze.
A maid stepped out of a side room, her eyes widening when she saw us. She looked between me and Luca, her lips parting as if she were about to speak, about to raise the alarm.
Luca reacted instantly. “The Luna couldn’t sleep,” he said smoothly, his tone carrying just enough authority to command obedience. “I’m escorting her to the gardens for some air.”
The maid’s gaze flickered to me, uncertainty clouding her features.
I forced a small, weary smile. “Please don’t mention it to anyone,” I whispered. “You know how the Alpha is… he wouldn’t like that I needed this.”
Her hesitation cracked. She nodded quickly and then walked away. .
Luca wasted no time. He took my hand and pulled me forward, our pace quickening as we moved deeper into the mansion.
Now, as we neared the back entrance, my pulse quickened. Two guards stood at their post, eyes sharp.
Luca didn’t falter. He strode forward with the same quiet authority that made others obey without question.
“The Luna needs fresh air,” he said coolly. “Alpha’s orders.”
The guards exchanged glances, their hesitation evident.
One of them nodded. “Of course, Beta.”
I held my breath as they stepped aside, the heavy door unlocking with a metallic click.
The night air was crisp against my skin as I stepped out.
I was free!!
We took a turn and continued till we were far enough from the castle.
“Okay, now what I'm about to tell you is important okay?”
Luca whispered, his voice soft.
“Go home and don't stop anywhere. Once you do, get a bath immediately.”
Luca continued, his voice tinged with urgency.
“Why?”
“You have Alpha Damien’s scent. And with that him and other Alpha’s of other packs can track you easily.”
I froze. What?
“I wish I could follow you, but Damien will suspect my absence.”
I hesistated, giving myself a moment for the words to register.
“Okay. Thank you.”
“Take care.” Luca then pulled away and walked back to the mansion.
Luca had done his part, he got me out even though he was the one who technically who put me in there.
But now, the rest was up to me.
I waved a taxi to a stop and jumped in without any hesitation.
According to Luca, I had to wash off Damien’s scent before any werewolf tracks him, meaning I didn't have much time.
Soon, the figure of the building came into view.
My sanctuary. My freedom.
I stepped out from the taxi and quickened my steps.
I nearly stumbled as I reached the porch.
My fingers trembled, but I forced the door open, stepping inside and slamming it shut behind me.
Finally! I'm home.
But then, I felt a shift in the air.
Something was off.
I turned…
No!!
Figures emerged from the darkness, their eyes gleaming like predators who had cornered their prey.
The scent of werewolves filled the room, but they weren't familiar ones.
My breath hitched, my body froze.
My stomach twisted.
I hadn’t escaped.
I had run straight into another trap.
