Xavier POV
We were leaving the pack grounds when Cole finally said his first word.
“Xavier are we doing the right thing, accepting this man invitation!”
“Not you too” I protest “Look Cole we cannot live in fear. I’m not going to sit back and let this man control any part of our lives. You remember what Esmeralda said about her dream!”
“Yes, I remember. Trust me her words will never leave my head!”
Cole looked out the window before repeating her words…. “Watch the man with red eyes! If he succeeds the Alpha dies! The Beta’s love will live no more, as too their son will die…!”
I see Cole’s eyes full of worry and rage!
“I promise you Cole, I will not let any harm come to your mate. Neither would your Luna!”
“Xavier!” I here Esmeralda mind link.
“Perfect timing” My wolf howls
“Yes, My Love.” I mind link back
“Don’t let Cole now, but Avery’s pregnant!”
I slam the car to a stop!
“s**t f**k” I hear Cole yell! “Dude what the f**k! You okay!?”
I can’t say anything! All I can replay in my head is “As too their son will die!”
“Xavier… hey man” I hear Cole say as I feel his hand on my shoulder!
“Yeah, sorry! I just thought I saw an animal!” I quickly say shaking Esmeralda words out of my head!
“Don’t tell Cole” Is all I keep saying to myself!
Thank God we were at the restaurant with minutes, so I didn’t have an awkward car ride! The ride home will be another story!
“We can’t focus on that right now!” My wolf growls
I can sense the man is inside! Time for dinner with the enemy!
Cole and I valet the car as we walk inside. The restaurant was busy, but not too crowded. Just the right amount so Charles will have a hard time doing any of his sneaky tricks.
“Xavier!” I hear the man say as we approach the table. “I thought this was a private dinner.”
Charles says as he looks at Cole.
“I could say the same to you Charles, or do you just pay the people around you to dress alike.” I snap back. If he thought I was this stupid than he is in for a huge surprise.
“I guess I should have given you more credit, Xavier.” Charles chuckles “Please have a seat.”
I stop Cole from sitting. As the waitress comes for our order.
“If it is alright with you Charles,” I say “I would like to skip dinner with you. I see we don’t trust each other and I obviously see that dinner wasn’t your intention.” I say as I wave the waitress away.
“Then what are your plans Xavier for having me meet you hear tonight!” Charles snares at me.
“To warn you! That I intend to attack your lands and take over your throne!” I smirk back
“You piece of s**t” Charles stands “You dare challenge the oldest Alpha!”
“You have no power over me or my people!” I snarls back “Let’s go Cole!”
I hear Charles mumble some words, but I flip him off. We are on neutral territory and the rules are no fighting on neutral territory. I hear Charles behind us!
“Hold on Xavier I have one more thing!” I hear him yell
“Cole return to the pack house!” I order “You are needed there!”
“No Xavier!” He snarls
“Do as I order Beta!” I demand in an Alpha tone.
“Yes Alpha!” I hear Cole snarl back in anger. He hates when I make him go against his better judgement, but his mate is pregnant! I cannot let anything happen to my best friend right now! Not when I know she needs him!
“Here!” I throw him the keys. Cole looks at me confused
“I’ll take a taxi. Now go!” I order as I wave a taxi driver.
Cole nods as he get into the car and takes off for home.
“Thank God!” My wolf sighs Sorry Cole, but your mate needs you more than I do!
A taxi car pulls up as Charles comes outside.
“Xavier, I’m glad I caught you!” Charles says out of breath
“Yes, Sir Charles” I answer back
“I wanted to give you something before you left!”
“What is that?”
“This!” Within seconds Charles stabs my hand with a needle! I feel burning rising up inside me!
“f**k WE LET OUT GUARD DOWN!!” My wolf screams in pain!
Suddenly my vision grew weak! My eyes felt heavy! s**t I’ve been poisoned before, but this is strong! It’s moving quicker than any poison I have ever felt! My eyes shut as my thoughts trail off to my Mates!
“Esmeralda my Luna! Amelia my Rose!” I hear my wolf call out to them!
