The Alpha, His Luna, and Her Rose

Chapter 13

Amelia’s POV

I'm sitting in the study reading! It something I like to do to pass time when I can’t sleep! I read the history of our pack, our rules, anything I feel will help me prove my worth! I just want to prove that what Xavier and Esme see in me is true!

I reach up and touch my neck! It is still a little tender from where Xavier marked me! I smile at the memories of last night. The smell of the freshly bloom flowers still lingering in my hair and on my skin. I still remember the smile on Esmeralda’s face when she surprised me. She looked so proud of herself. She had set the whole surprise up. Well her and Avery actually. I feel my wolf growl a little at her thought of her name, but I take a breath to calm myself down.

“Avery is just her friend, nothing more.” I remind myself.

It was just hard seeing Avery and Esmeralda sneak away together this past week. But now I see why! Avery was just helping Esmeralda get the garden ready for me, especially since Esmeralda hasn’t been sleeping at night again. They had planted tons of rose bushes, daisies, and babies breathe. Some of my favorite flowers. Esmeralda also had made a stone path through the garden. The path ended at the garden shed. In the shed, lights were strung across the ceiling. There was a bed in the corner of the room filled with pillows. The whole room was lite by candle light! Xavier even cooked us a dinner. After dinner, was when Esmeralda and Xavier took me to the garden.

Esmeralda words still playing in my head. “I wanted to show you how much you mean to me! How much you have changed my life! How much you mean to both of us. I want Xavier to mark you.”

How could I have changed her life so much!? She changed mine! Heck she was the one that saved me! I feel my neck again where Xavier marked me. I still can’t believe she had Xavier mark me. Never has an Alpha marked another without the first Luna being gone. Now we are both marked as his! We both carry his scent.

My thoughts are interrupted when I see Esmeralda come down the stairs. Her white gown flowing so elegantly on her body!

“She really is an angel.” my wolf purrs as I get up and walk to her!

“I thought you were sleeping love!” I grab her hand as she reaches the bottom step! With her other hand she reaches up and rubs her forehead!

“What’s wrong!?” I can see it in her eyes something is wrong!

“I started having a weird dream... I woke up or I thought I did! I went to get up, but I couldn’t move! My head was spinning so much. I closed my eyes and reopen them and it stopped, but the headache is still there! It won’t go away!” She says as she rubs her forehead more.

“Come and sit my angel,” I lead her to the couch. “Xavier is in his office finishing some paperwork I'll go get him!”

“No,” she quickly interrupts me! “Please just stay with me for a little bit! I don’t want to trouble him! He has a lot to do with the pack right now!”

I know this isn’t a good thing, I know I should go get Xavier, but I know when she says she doesn't want to trouble him… it is serious! But I know Xavier has been working a lot! A possible war, some rogues trying to join the pack, he had a lot to do!

“Okay my angel I won’t get him!” I say comforting her!

I sit on the other side of the couch! I gesture for her to lay her head in my lap! I stroke her hair and before I know it she is asleep! I look down at her and smile, but more of a nervous smile! I'm starting to worry about my angel I know something isn't right! Maybe this is why she hasn’t been sleeping at night. I know she doesn’t want me to but I have to let Xavier know!

I mind link him! “Xavier can you come to the study when you get a free minute I need to talk to you, it isn’t urgent yet, but....”

“I'll be right there my sweet rose!” He interrupts me!

I can smell his presence as he enters the room! His musky smell so alluring.

“I hope I didn’t pull you away from pack duty! It could have waited until after you were finished Alpha.” I mind link him again!

“My rose… never be sorry!! I was finished for the night anyway! But, why do you keep mind linking me?” He response back.

“Kiss me and find out” I say mind linking back!

Esme is starting to rub off on me! Xavier knows it too as I hear a small giggle escapes his mouth. He walks over as I turn my head to him. He smiles when he sees Esme asleep in my lap.

“Our caring beautiful rose” Xavier mind links me as he grabs my chin tilting my head up, he kisses me passionately “Whatever is on your mind!?” He sits on the arm rest and I rest my head on his leg. He runs his fingers down my neck circling around his bite mark.

“I’m worried about our angel” I mind link him, looking down at Esme! I move her beautiful red hair out of her face. I turn to Xavier and continue to mind link him so she doesn’t wake. “When she’s not around us she is having trouble sleeping! I can sense it. When she came down stairs she looked dizzy! She said her head was hurting! She said when she tried to stand that the room was spinning and she had to close her eyes again in order to stop the spinning and stand up.”

Xavier looked worried as he got down off the couch. He sat on the floor leaning against my legs, laying his head on my lap, looking at Esme!

“Did she say anything else?” he asked in his serious alpha tone while gently stroking her hair!

She always relaxes when he plays with her hair like that! Anytime it comes to his mate Xavier instantly goes on the defense!

“This is going to be hard tell him!” I heard my wolf say!

I sigh “... Yes... She didn’t want me to get you right away.” He looked at me with both shock and anger! I feel my heart about to break as I know I just caused it! His mate didn’t turn to him! I quickly try to diffuse the situation. “I think she was more worried about disturbing you while you work…”

Xavier Interrupts! “It’s because I got angry yesterday at her.” I feel his wolf grow with rage.

“I shouldn’t have turn her away. I was so caught up in the pack affairs! I had Cole mind linking me and 2 others in the room, but it’s no excuse!” He closes his eyes for a second before slowly opening them. “She’s my Luna! I should have put her first! Damn it! Now she holding back from me again! She doesn’t want me to worry, but I worry about her any time she isn’t around. Now she won’t come to me! She should always come to me!” I can feel his rage starting to grow!

I lean down and kiss Xavier on the forehead! He hasn’t been so unguarded around me before! It feels amazing knowing he is opening up to me, but it breaks my heart seeing him hurt so much!

“She understands Xavier!” I say stroking his hair, “it wasn’t that she didn’t want to tell you! She just knew you had a lot to do and she felt bad for...

“But she comes first! I should always put her and you first,” he interrupts, standing up and walking around the room “my Luna comes first! You come first! Before anything else!”

“We have all done stupid s**t! She should have come to you tonight Xavier! That's why I mind linked you after she fell asleep! I shouldn’t have left her when I knew she was having trouble sleeping! Don’t beat yourself up Hun! She needs you to be strong and so do I!”

Xavier lets out a sigh. “You are always the voice of reason!” He says kissing me and then kissing Esme before snuggling back on the floor leaning on my legs again! “I’m just worried about her! I just always want her to be happy and never suffer again!”

“Xavier how did she suffer? She still hasn’t told me!”

“I’m sorry my rose! I can’t say! Not unless she asks me too! It’s a horrible time from her past.”

“Xavier please just tell me something! Anything!” I plead with him

“I will tell you this! Her suffering is why she doesn’t fear death! She met death already! But I don’t want to say anymore! Not until she is ready!”

My angel met death face to face! “She doesn’t fear death!?” My wolf looks at her.

“Amelia Rose, my darling, I'm worried about our Luna! The last time she was like this... Was, was with you! This seems worse though! I'm afraid someone might be trying to get into her head! I'm afraid this time it isn’t for good!”

“Xavier we got to do something for her then! We got to protect her!”

“I know” he says “She doesn’t deserve to suffer! She has brought so much joy to this pack, more importantly to me!”

“It’s like she makes you feel more alive!” I add in

Xavier nods his heads and looks down at the floor. He has never looked so sad before. He looks as though he is afraid.

“Xavier are you afraid our Luna is going to leave us?” I quickly ask

He strokes Esmeralda hair, before sighing “I am my rose! I’m worried if she come close to death again she'll go with him! I’m worried the marking ceremony was for you to take her place!

I gasp at his word which make Esme stir. She blinks her eyes awake.

“Hello beautiful!” Xavier says kissing her forehead! “I’m so sorry about yesterday! I should have never sent you away!”

“Xavier... Stop... Its okay! I understand my alpha!!” She sits up as Xavier grabs her hand and kisses it a couple of times.

“Please my love, don’t hide things from me! I can’t be strong unless I know you’re okay! Please tell me what’s going on?” Xavier begs Esme!

Esme looked a little confused before looking at me. I see it all click her head, as she begins to get angry!

“You told him...” She scolds, her voice sounding enrage!

“My angel I can’t watch you suffer! I won't! I’m sorry but...”

Esme pushes herself off the couch and stands up.
