Counter Moves

Frustration roared through his veins. For Weeks now several rogue groups had been moving in closer to the Waxing Moon pack territory, with no signs of motive in sight. His men had been working tirelessly running perimeter to ensure the packs protection. Dante’s personal guard had been trying to investigate what could be causing so many groups to close in. Dante started to run his fingers through his hair long brown hair, when his beta Roman burst through the door. “Alpha! There have been sightings of rogues entering the human territory just south of here.” Roman shouted breathlessly. “s**t! Why the hell would they move through there, and risk exposure.” Dante slammed his fist down onto his desk followed by a loud crack of the oak. This just created more questions and problems. His men were already spread thin, however the human territory to the south was too close for comfort to the pack. He would have to go himself with a few of his warriors to take care of the rogues to the south. He would get down to the bottom of this. “My lord, how do you wish to handle this?” Roman asked more composed this time, breaking Dante out of his train of thought. “Gather a hand full of men and you and I will go and take care of the south, and get to the bottom of this.” His deep voice boomed with authority; his beta was through the door following his command almost before he was finished speaking. Now on the move himself he needed to ensure someone to oversee things while he was gone as he would be taking, he second in command with him. He moved quickly down the halls of the pack house filled with many artworks and scroll work on the walls. A few more turns and he had arrived at the room of his mother. He knocked and entered the room. His mother was on her feet heading towards him. She had short graying hair, a lean build and a look on her face that permanently says she does not take no s**t from anyone. Even though he was now the Alpha she still scarred the hell out of him. “My son what in heavens is the matter.” She stated calmly, knowing just by the look of him that there was something wrong. This helped as there were no time for pleasantries. Dante got straight to the point. “A rogue group has been spotted entering the human territory to the south. I am going to head them off with Roman before they get any closer to the pack. I need you to look after things while I am gone.” His mother nodded. “Of course my son, what ever you need. Now go protect the pack.” She gave his arm a squeeze just as he turned to leave. Dante ran full force. His men worked hard to keep up with him. He needed to get answers, and he needed to take care of this as quickly as possible. They started to circle around the human town to pick up the rogue’s scent. Suddenly the air started to change. The smell of rotten carcase and musk grew stronger. He let out a low growl signaling to his men to follow the scent. The trail grew closer and closer to the edge of the town. He mind linked to Roman. “Take half the men and circle the town, see if you can find an exit trail. I will take the other half and go into the town.” Roman nodded and started to split from the group. With a growl three others followed him. Dante moved his men into town following the scent from the shadows making sure to not be seen. The scent was growing as they neared a two-story house surrounded by trees, and vines growing along the brick. He could not sense anyone in the house yet the lights were all on. Along side rogues scent a new scent began to emerge. The smell of rich honey and roses grew strong mixed with, blood, and the sour scent of fear. Anger began to ignite in Dante’s veins, as he picked up the pace. Just then Roman mind linked him. “My lord we are coming up on the rogues. They have a girl with them.” Dante replied back. “We will head your way, stay in track mode until I get there and then we will attack”
