Chapter 15

Logan’s POV Seconds turned into minutes… minutes turned to hours… hours turned into days… days into weeks… now here I am and it’s been a month and a half since I’ve had a conversation with Domino. It’s not like I haven’t tried, but every day after school she was with that b***h who I don’t know. Or she was with Alexis and Alexis downright looked like she wanted to murder me.  I tried to get to her classes before they started, and the result was the same. She was either with that b***h or Alexis. Tried to get there after her classes. Same results. All her classes were at the earliest possible. Mine was late afternoon classes and I didn’t have many of them. It was impossible to get her alone. Still, I didn’t give up. I would watch from the sidelines for now. Basketball will start tomorrow and soon that b***h and Alexis won’t have her all the time. She’ll be mine whenever the time arises.  With me watching her from the sidelines the voice would constantly nag me about it. ‘You’re going to lose her keep it up’ it would say. I would never really reply because I knew I'd have all her attention. The attention I was desperately craving. The boys questioned everything that was going on. Especially Jayson. Jayson had noticed I bulked up in size and he would tell me constantly I looked different. Nate would just say things like ‘you’ve been working out. This girl must have you stressed because you look like you’ve worked nonstop.’ Chad would just question what does this girl mean to me. Everything, she means everything to me. More than she did before. before I just missed her and just missed how we were. But now It felt like I couldn’t breathe without her. Still, there was still the problem that I lied about my first name. Not on purpose, it was under the impression that she’d recall me. I wanted to be the one to tell her.  My phone started ringing and I answered it without looking. “Hendrix.” “When are you coming back to the office?” It was Jon. Ever since the incident with Kai I haven’t been back to my office since. I’ve had all my meetings outside of the office boardrooms and any paperwork that needed to be touched by my hands I had sent to me.  “I’m not, at the current moment. I have school to handle.” “Logan, that’s bullshit. And you haven’t been by to check up on the clubs either. What’s going on? I haven't seen you since you left for Thailand.”  “Awhn Jon if you miss me then say that.” “As if. I’m just tired of picking up your slack.” He sighed.  “I’m still working, aren’t I? I’ve taken meetings and done paperwork. Get off my back. And I’m out of the tabloids too” I spat back.  “I just need to check up on you Logan, call it I miss you whatever. I just need to make sure you’re good. It’s a lot of things going on. Just want to make sure you’re adjusting.” Adjusting?  “Fine, I’ll be there after my class. Around three.” I hung up. Maybe I can get some answers from him.  I was in the hallway waiting on Domino’s class to end like I always was. When I felt someone tap my back. I turned around to see her. “Hey, I thought that was you.” Her angelic voice rang “Hey,” I said back just staring at her. Her curls were just out and free. She was wearing a plain white shirt and jeans. Still, there was something about her that screamed perfection.  “Where have you been. I thought I saw you around campus but wasn’t so sure.”  “Yeah,” I said. ‘What’s wrong with you? Can you say anything more than one f*****g word’ the voice yelled in my head.  “Oh, well I didn’t mean to bother you… it’s just my class ended early and I just wanted to see you again… I’ll go…” she was backing away. I reached out and grabbed her by the waist to draw her back. Leaving little to no space between us.  “You’re not bothering me... I’m just … I don’t know. Nervous?”  Her face was twisted. “Nervous? I make you… nervous? If anyone should be nervous it’s me.”  I laughed... “I’m happy I was finally able to get you alone. It’s something I need to talk to you about.” I said looking down deep into her eyes. Her light brown eyes shined brightly.  “Yeah? Me too.. about that night..” she said biting down on her lip. My heart began to beat faster and harder. I was sent to panic mode. Was she about to tell me it shouldn’t have happened? That she has a girlfriend and that it was a mistake? Oh no, was she going to reject me? My mind continued to ramble and the voice wasn’t making it easy either. It felt like the voice was banging her head against the wall.  She continued “but you go first since you wanted to say something first.” She smiled at me.  “Domino there’s something I have to tell you... ironically it's about that night-“ I was cut off by another voice  “Baby!” I recognized it and turned around grabbing Domino’s hand, putting her behind me. It was Ariel… She walked up to me trying to hug me. I was trying to push her back. “Logan? What’s wrong?” Fuck… She looked around me to see Domino behind me. Her eyes squinted and her eyebrows furrowed. “What is she doing here with you?” I felt Domino's hand slip from mine and I turned to her walking away from us. Not saying a word.  I felt myself growling lowly... “What is it that you could possibly want right now.” “Am I messing up time with you and your w***e? I told you baby no one can have you. I’ve missed you and I got something to give you for your birthday.” She whispered in my ear. Her hand was trailing up my neck when I grabbed her wrist. She whined in pain.  “Let me make this clear. We. Are. Not. Together. And if you breathe in Domino’s direction, your wrist will be replaced with your throat. And I won’t stop till your eyes pop out. Don’t f**k with me.” I let go. I won’t let anyone hurt her. Not like last time.  She just looked at me with a sinister smile. Unfazed with the fact that I could have broken her hand. “Unfortunately for you, I don’t break easily. But she does. Remember that. See you later baby.” She turned and walked away.  “I don’t like her at all Human... it’s beyond me on why you f****d her and had a relationship with that thing.” The voice said.  “I was drunk the first time…” I answered, “how do you even know that?” I whispered back. And of course, she didn’t respond to me. I just need to get through today and I’ll explain to her at practice tomorrow. f*****g f**k Ariel.  ***  After my boring ass classes, I was finally free to do the last thing on my list. Which was to go to the office and see Jon. I needed to know what I needed to be adjusting to. Did he know about the changes I was experiencing? Only one way to find out.  I parked my car in the lower basement level garage. Walked to the elevator that took me straight to my office level. Just like my loft, only a few people have access to this area. It’s heavily guarded so that no one can just sneak in. I pressed the button to the office and waited to arrive. A million thoughts ran through my mind all about Domino… the fact that I did lie. Even though it’s not a lie, it wasn’t the full truth either. Her face, when she left, was more hurtful than confused. Why? Such a stupid petty lie put me in this predicament.  The elevator sounded off letting me know I’ve reached my destination. As the doors opened I walked in and saw no Kai at the front desk. Which was strange in itself because even though that night didn’t go her way, she showed up to every shift. As a matter of fact, the office was empty again just like that night. All was quiet until a deep voice rang out.  “WHERE IS SHE? You said three and it’s fifteen minutes after. Where is she, Woods?” The man growled out.  “Need I remind you that we are in the city, not only that Logan had class today I’m sure.” Jon countered  “To be honest I don’t really care, I’m here to ensure she and Kai are to be mated together. I don’t give a rats ass about this meaningless education.” He spat back.  “With all due respect sir, her “education” is paying for everything we have back home. So you should give a “rats ass” about it” Jon was getting angry.  The man scoffed, “You know why I’m here. Back home things are moving like the prophecy said they would. And I’m here to make sure it’s not going to be fulfilled. I don’t care what other things she has going on. You’re her advisor. So advise her to get here now.”  “Again, watch your voice, remember the last time someone tried to speak truth, the goddess never let them return. If she hears you..”  “How do you even know it’s her? How are we sure that it was her that was chosen.” “Because if it wasn’t you wouldn’t be so hungry for a power play. Isn’t that right Hayes?” James’s voice butted into the conversation.  The conversation halted and I figured it was time for me to make my appearance since I knew I wasn’t going to get any more answers I shouldn’t have been listening to anyway. I walked into the room to see all three men standing up as if they wanted to fight. Kai was just in the corner with her head down.  “Gentlemen? If you want to fight take that s**t outside of my office. Now Jon I believe only you wanted to see me.. so why the extra audience?” I Said as all of their eyes spun towards me. I walked over to my desk and sat on it.  “It’s about time,” the older Hayes said. “Now, I-“  I cut him off by putting my hand up. “Dominic Hayes.. to what I owe the pleasure of seeing you? I must say it’s rather unexpected.” I looked at him deep in his eyes. Something was going on here and I knew none of them were going to tell me. At least directly.  “Well Miss Logan Hendrix, I’m here to see why you failed to agree upon your promise.” He calmly spoke.   I gave him a sarcastic hum. “Jon? Was this your intention to bring me here on such a misleading pretense?”  I asked Jon without looking at him. “No.” He answered back. “What I called you here for is what was intended. Dominic showed up ten minutes before you just did.”  I hummed in agreement. “James, why are you here?” I went around the room questioning.  “Same reason as Jon. I was worried about you so I asked Jon to call you to come to the office.”  My eyes darted over to Kai who nervously looked down. “Kai?” I called out. She didn’t answer. “Kai? I’m talking to you.”  She let out a deep breath. “Yes, Hendrix?”  That made me clench my jaw a bit, squinting my eyes at her. “Why am I sitting before your father right now? When I’ve already explained to you that we won’t be a thing.”  Before she could answer Dominic slammed his on my desk causing it to crack. “You listen, and you listen good. Don't ever talk to my daughter like that again. You will respect your future wife Hendrix!”  I laughed in his face and stood up to meet him at his eye level. “Wife? You say? Or shall I not talk to your pawn that way. Watch your tone when you talk to me.”  “You may be a Hendrix but you know nothing of this world and its mystery’s girl, tread lightly when talking to me.” He growled back. I could see something change in his eyes. Still, I wasn’t going to back down.  “I don’t know who the f**k you think I am Hayes. But what I am not is afraid. Like I said before I will NOT take your daughter's hand.”  “Then you will doom us all… think clearly… this isn’t just about you Logan.”  “For the last eighteen years NOTHING has been about me… but I tell you one thing. I will refuse your daughter's hand even if it’s my last breath.”  He leaned back and sarcastically laugh… “You better hope it isn’t, or whoever you’re choosing instead.”  “Are you threatening me?”  “No, it’s a fact. You will change your mind. For now, I’ll give you time to think about your actions. Because they will have consequences.” He walked away with Kai in tow.  I wanted to scream and slam his head through every wall in this f*****g office. But I had to control myself, this was the first time that I kept my anger in check. And that also meant I kept the voice in check. Ultimately meaning my eyes didn’t change, keeping this secret at bay since they’re holding secrets too.  “Logan-“ Jon started to speak, placing a hand on my shoulder.  I instantly stood up cutting him off as he spoke walking to the doorway. “I’m leaving, as you can see I’m perfectly fine. Unless you know something I don’t know Woods?” I peeked over my shoulder. James looked like he wanted to talk but chose not to. “Goodnight, I have practice in the morning. Everything is done as far as my work till January, if you need anything else from me call me.” I left my office without a response from both of them. I didn’t want one either. Seems like everyone knew what was going on and blamed some prophecy on why they couldn’t talk.  I got into my car and let my engine roar out before speeding off. “This goddess… is nothing but folklore,” I said out loud. The voice laughed. And stayed laughing until I got into my loft.  “Are you going to tell me what’s so f*****g funny? You have the answers and just refuse to answer me.”  The voice continued laughing. “To think, you have all the answers in front of you, you just refuse to take notice, technically they gave you the answer and you still refuse to listen.” She laughed.  “Some f*****g scary story is the answer to what’s going on? Some destiny complex is happening. You’re telling me my life isn’t decided by me? That’s some f*****g goddess decided for me.”  The voice stopped laughing. “You will watch your tongue, you pathetic human.”  “Nooooo, why stop there. You’re going to say ghosts are real next? What’s next huh?”  She scoffed “I’ll let that go because he threatened us human. But soon you’ll really understand. And soon you’ll regret the words you spoke.”  I screamed in frustration. “f**k!” I needed to calm down.. rage was slowly taking over my body… I looked in the mirror to see my eyes shifting from their normal colors to the color from that night. “Control I need control..” My hands balled into a fist I started to talk myself down... “You can’t let her ever see you like this… you have to calm down… you have to protect her..” I felt myself slowly release my fist. I closed my eyes and imagined the moments I shared with Domino. The color of her eyes, the way her teeth sparkle when she smiles, her curly hair, the way she used to hug me, and the way she held my face that night.  I began to breathe again and looked in the mirror. I looked at myself trying to find who I was. “No matter what, I’ll always protect her, and I’ll make sure to never hurt her ever again.”
