Chapter 11

1992 Words
Standing in my closet wondering what to wear. This was my first official date. Sig and I had a good time this afternoon, observing my daily duties and he seems to be getting along well with Irmele, which is very important. Burghart even seems to be warming up to him, inviting Sig to have lunch with him and a few other male pack members. My mom is complete gaga over him, leaving just me undecided. Werewolves are not usually this hesitant on accepting their mate. Even if said mate is from another pack. We feel the bond, mate and get to know each other after. That aspect of our lives is very animalistic. So, back to my date. What does one wear? I only wear dresses when absolutely necessary and put me in heels and I look like a baby deer first learning to walk, so that’s out of the question.             Fye jumped in breaking me from my spiraling thought processes, “he is our mate he will like you in anything. Just be yourself and pick something nice but comfortable and then get a move on it.”             “Okay, okay, pushy much,” I retorted.             “Well, if I don’t get you moving diner will pass by and I’m starving.” With that I decided to grab a stretch pair of skinny jeans, brown boots, and a nice fringe sweater. I would add a necklace and some crystal bracelets and call it good. Now on to my hair, I needed it at least halfway up or it would repeatedly fall in my face while trying to eat. Half back with a clip, perfect. I don’t do make-up so I’m as ready as I’ll ever be. I took one last look in the mirror as I headed out the door. Just before I had a chance to get to the landing which would take me downstairs my mother intercepted me.             “Hette,” with a giddy tone in her voice “Yaa mom, what’s up?” I asked. “I am so excited for you; do you have any questions before your date?” “No mom, I’m good and I’ve got Fye if anything arises,” responding to her. “Now if you don’t mind, I need to get downstairs.” “Yes, I know. Here I wanted to give this to you, it was given to me by my mother before I went off with your father for the first time.” She pulled out a small hand knife with a leather case. “I’m going to tell you the same thing she told me. Yes, we are werewolves however, we aren’t always in safe places to use our strength or let our wolves out. This is small and easily concealed and could come in handy in small pinch.” I studied it pulling the small blade from the sheath. It could definitely piss someone off and I can easily hide it in one of my boots. “Thank you, mom I will keep it on me at all times, but I’m sure I won’t need to use it,” I gave her a hug. “Okay,” tears were brimming in her eyes as she pulled back from our embrace. “I’ve taken enough of your time this evening, go have fun.” “Will do, have a great night,” I said as I headed down the stairs. As I got to the second-floor landing, I stopped dead in my tracks. There at the bottom of the stairs was my date holding an arrangement of flowers. I was amazed at how nice he cleaned up. He had on dark blue jeans that fit nice at the waist and lose at the bottom, a pair of black boots, and a nice green flannel button up shirt with the top three buttons undone, and his hair was pulled back in a ponytail. His eyes caught mine and a smile grew across his face. I finished walking down the stairs and stopped just in front of him.             Smiling, “hi…are those for me?” glancing at the flowers.             As he pushed them towards me, “yes, I hope you like them.” They were an arrangement of yellow and orange fall flowers with some woodsy filler so, of course I loved them.             “Absolutely, these are some of my favorites, thank you. How about I put them in a vase before we leave.”             “Sounds good,” Sig replied, then we headed over to the kitchen. I stepped into the kitchen doorway and Patty noticed me first.             “Hello alpha, can I help you with anything?”             “Can I get a vase,” holding out the flowers.             “My those are beautiful, excellent job Siegmund,” Patty gave a smile. “Why don’t you leave those with me I’ll trim the ends and get them all situated and then have someone put them in your room.”             “That would be great Patty, thank you,” smiling at her and passing the flowers over. “I’ll see you ladies in the morning for breakfast,” Sig and I turned and headed back to the front door.             “Okay, so where are we going?” I asked with anticipation at what the answer might be.             “I hope you like pasta, because I’ve reserved a table for us at the Flying Noodle in town.” Sig responded.             “Noodles are a weakness of mine, you either did your homework, or you have good taste,” I responded with excitement. Heading out to the parking lot in front of the packhouse I asked, “do I need to drive?”             “Nope, I have that taken care of as well. Burghart was nice enough to lend me his truck.” Smiling and thinking of what he must have gone through to put this together warmed my heart. He was definitely winning me over. We walked up to Burgharts blue dodge, and I went to grab the passenger handle and Sig grabbed my hand.             “No, you don’t! I may be animalistic, but I do have manners, let me.” He opened the door held out his hand and helped me get into the truck. He closed the door and walked around to the drivers’ side.             As he started the truck and said, “I may have been raised by rogues, but the she-wolves were very adamant about teaching us young males how to be respectful.”             “That was nice of them,” I responded. “I would like to learn more about you and your upbringing.”             “Sure, I have nothing to hide, what would you like to know?”             “I guess start at the beginning.”             And Sig began his story. “I didn’t have any parents, I was raised by the kindness of different pack members so, anyone over the age of eighteen was like a parent to me. Once I was older and began asking questions the elder of the pack explained to me that they happened upon me by sheer accident. They figured I was about three years old when they found me sleeping in the hole of a tree. The only thing I had with me were the clothes on my back.             It was wonderful being with them, I have seen so many places, but I always longed for the stability of a family. Often, I wondered who my family is or was, if they were looking for me and of course the obvious why was I left in the tree. When Joel came along, I didn’t feel so lonely anymore and I was happy for the most part. Then around the time I turned twenty I felt an urge to leave and seek out information on who I was. The elder gave me the best description he could on where they found me. I gathered what little I had, said my good-bye’s and headed out. That was about two years ago. Now I am sitting here with you, wondering do I stay or do I go.”             We sat in the truck out front of the restaurant in silence, staring into one another’s eye’s.             I broke the silence with a hushed voice, “I hope you stay.” My heart was knocking on my chest it was beating so hard.             With a smile upon his face, “I would like that very much.” We sat in silence staring at each other, soaking in how comfortable it was to be alone in each other’s presence. Then the silence was disrupted by the grumble of my stomach, ggrrrr. I giggled at the sound a little embarrassed, “I think the dinner bell just rang.”             Pulling the keys from the ignition, “let’s go in.” He said with a huge grin on his face. Sig came around to my side of the truck and like before he opened the door and helped me out. The Flying Noodle was a small restaurant with limited seating. The host walked us back to an intimate table for two. Sig pulled my seat out for me in true gentleman style and then sat in the chair across from me.             “Sig this place is adorable. You may have just found my new favorite restaurant.” Just then our server approached and made sure to put her back to me. I was taken back by this. Setting down the menu’s she asked Sig, “can I get you something to drink handsome?” Is this really happening I thought to myself. I could also feel Fye starting to rear her ugly head and knew I had to tread lightly being out amongst humans’.             Politely Sig said, yes my date and I would like a glass of resiling.”             “Oh date,” and she turned to give me a half snotty smile, finally acknowledging my presence.             Sig then reached out grabbing my hand, “is that okay with you darling?” he asked only looking at me.             Sheepishly grinning I replied, “that sounds wonderful.” We both then looked up at the server who said nothing but turned and walked off like a child. The build up was unbearable and we burst out laughing. I ordered a pesto dish, while Sig got a chicken alfredo. Besides the rude server everything was perfect. Taking turns chatting and getting to know each other was as easy as two long lost friends catching up. Sig was fascinated to hear about life growing up with my parents and being able to attend an actual school. He explained to me while it was not the best way to find a mate, he was happy for the events that led up to it. We continued like this well into the evening as though no one else was there, it was just us. Until we heard a clearing of a throat, “excuse me, but my manager would like to close up now.” Looking up we glanced around and noticed all the customers were gone except us. The staff was gingerly standing around the cash register, looking tired. We grinned at each other, then with an apologetic expression Sig said to the server, “Oh, the time got away from us.” Getting up from his chair, he came over took my hand, and guided me out of mine, we walked hand in hand out of the restaurant, giving the manager a heart felt thank you for a wonderful evening. As we stood on the sidewalk outside of the Flying Noodle Sig said, “I have had such a wonderful evening, I don’t want it to end.”             “Nor do I,” blushing at the thought of getting closer to him. Unaware, in the shadow’s lurked an evil plotting against us. Our night was not ending here, but just beginning.
