Chapter 2

Akala shot up drenched in sweat hearing Shelia beside her saying her name in a worried voice. The mark on her neck tingled as she relived the nightmare of losing Lucifer. She felt the dull sparks of her mate's fingers trying to soothe her as her senses came back. She smiled as she looked over at Shelia. Her silver hair seemed to brighten in the moonlight, and the light bounced off her chocolate brown eyes. she reached over and pulled her close earning an 'eww' from Shelia and an order to go shower. She laughed and headed to the shower, thinking about how she almost refused this after what happened. A small smile appeared thinking about her mate and soon-to-be wife, how stubborn she was, and how differently she had pursued Akala. They had met at a blood drive when Akala had just had her second child, Alistair. She had a batch set aside for her when she had come in. Seeing the silver-haired beauty her breath caught in her throat as Shelia looked up from her task and looked at her the distinct smell of rain and daisies flowed off her. "Not again." She muttered under her breath as she walked up to the counter. Shelia smiled and her eyes flashed purple. It baffled her, first the literal devil himself, and now a zombie? Why couldn't she just be with a vampire-like herself, she knew what to expect with them. Completely ignoring the woman she walked up to the counter and her friend Zach came out and smiled handing her a discreet bag so she didn't have to hunt with the baby. they talked for a bit and nodded to Shelia before she left noticing the jealousy in her eyes. Akala shook her head and left without a word to her, wanting nothing to do with fate or mates. What she didn't expect was a knock at the door later on and the woman standing at her door. "Look if you're selling something I don't want it." She said flatly her eyes laying on her second mate. They were cold and emotionless, although inside she was panicking with fear. She didn't want to go through that pain again, even with her first child, Caitriona, having been born the memories haunted her, eventually making her grow colder to those who were not family. Then she had to come and send a shiver down Akala's spine with those gorgeous eyes and perfect smile. She didn't expect the outburst that came next from the small petite young woman. "Just reject me so I can move on with my life, or give me a chance!" It wasn't a request from her, it was a demand. Akala looked at her with a raised brow, she didn't know what her parents would say about the second mate being a female. Akala shook her head as her curls swayed. She didn't want this again but she couldn't put another person through the pain she went through so she conceded. They exchanged numbers and started talking, Somewhere along the line, Akala let her guard down and confessed about her first mate and what had happened. Shelia took it well understanding that Akala was trying to protect herself. They would go on dates and enjoy themselves, the day she said she loved Shelia she ran. It scared her that she was developing feelings again. She didn't pick up her phone for days, or answer the door until Shelia came and knocked on her door leaving a note. It was so sweet and caring, not at all what she expected from the strongwilled, firey zombie she'd come to know. She picked up her phone and called her knowing that this was something that she had to make right. They talked, argued, and cried, they ended the conversation with a marriage proposal and Shelia agreeing to move in. That was over a year and a half, now they were together even though they hadn't marked one another. Akala smiled as she wrapped a towel around her and reentered the room from the master bathroom. Shelia had already made her something quick to eat, and incorporated blood into it so Akala wouldn't get sick. Saying a quick thank you she scarfed down the eggs not realizing how hungry she was. "You know, I hope Alistair won't have this problem. He is half-human after all." Akala commented thinking about her son in the next room. He was the result of a one-night stand, one that she didn't mean to have happened. As fate would have it, however, her metabolism changed as she hid who she was and drank blood from a pack of animals. She hadn't meant to feed on him but at that point, she was starved. When she tasted his blood she knew a more feral side of her came out as she felt drunk and out of control. She blacked out not remembering what had happened, but found the man next to her drain and she had everything taken care of by her parents. Six months later her boy was born with the assistance of his sister who had been there to visit and help her mother through it. "I agree, making meals for you and Cait when she comes to visit is difficult enough!" She teased and stuck her tongue out at her mate. Shelia was extremely playful, she loved to laugh and enjoy life. She was sweet and did her best to ignore those who would try and bring her down. Akala only saw one time her zombie came out in full force, it frightened even her. Another vampire had spotted Akala and taken her out to the alley by the bar she and Shelia were drinking in. Akala beat herself up knowing she shouldn't have been so trusting of a messenger she didn't know. He tried to mark her so they could be mates and rule together. she was fighting him off before she saw the glow of purple eyes and nails lengthening. A hyena-like laugh escaped the black lips and sharp teeth. A vicious, hungry smile crossed her face and before the vampire could move his arm was ripped off and she had snapped his neck. Akala smiled at the protectiveness of her mate, not realizing she was sitting thinking of the memories and Shelia was waving a hand in front of her face. She looked up and shook her head asking what she missed. Shelia laughed and shook her head at her mate's wandering minds. "I asked if you wanted to reschedule the cake tasting? You seem a bit out of it." Shelia looked at her a bit concerned. Akala refused, it had been planned months ahead of time and they wouldn't have another opening for months. Shelia nodded and took the plate from Akala to put it in the kitchen and check on Alistair. Washing the plate she hummed softly, listening to the rain and seeing sporadic flashes of lightning. Her eyes flashed purple loving the electricity in the air. she put the plate in the strainer and headed out of the kitchen to the stairs. Instead of turning right into her room, she turned left using the enhanced vision to see that Alistair was fine. Akala growled and tossed her phone to the side as she hung up with whoever had called her. Shelia raised a brow and Akala explained that her mother had called trying once again to convince her to be with a male vampire, emphasizing the male part of the sentence. Shelia rolled her eyes, her in-laws were so set in their ways and didn't want to form their thinking to be more helpful in modern times. Shelia sighed and turned off the light before crawling in bed. Shelia was wrapped in Akala's arms before her head had hit the pillow. She giggled feeling her mate's smooth skin pressed against her as Akala left a trail of kisses all over her body. Shelia had a different effect on her, whereas Lucifer ignited a fire in her that could only be extinguished by him, Shelia made her body feel like cool waves were washing over her sending pleasant chills throughout her veins. Her emerald green eyes met her mate's deep brown eyes hungrily pressing her lips against Shelia's. Her moan filled the room as hands explored her naked body, releasing the towel's hold on her and pushing wet curls out of the way. She smirked, leaving the lips and trailing down her neck stopping at the soft spot in her collar bone. Akala dragged her fangs gently across her skin as she left kisses, leaving the collar bone she went down to the chest causing a growl of frustration from Shelia. She was teasing, and she knew it. Her body would become sensitive under Akala's touch as she took her time trailing her nails down the other side of her with a feather-light touch. Shelia Shivered as she felt her mate's hands and mouth seized hold of her breasts. The expert tongue of her mate swirled around it as her fingers worked on the other. Her eyes went purple as she reached the edge and then Akala stopped. She groaned, looking at her mate, meeting her red eyes before watching them disappear as Akala went down to her core and started pleasing her. After an hour they laid in bed, exhausted and tangled into one another kissing each other good night before closing their eyes. The sound of Akala's alarm startled her awake as she sat up, a groan leaving her lips remembering that she had tossed her phone across the room last night. Pushing the thick covers off of her she got up, walking over to the phone, and turned off the alarm. She looked at herself in the mirror briefly before opening the closet forgetting that she was naked. Looking through her things she picked out her outfit for the day. A black corset zipped up to accentuate her curves perfectly, paring that with a sheer red lace shirt and dark blue Jeans and pantyhose for her boots. Throwing her hair up into a messy ponytail she decided she looked good enough for a cake testing. Leaving the room she turned down the stairs and to the right where the kitchen area was. Seeing Alistair in his highchair she smiled and kissed the top of his head, ruffling the straw blonde hair as his bright blue eyes lit up. He squealed and shook his head as their wolf scratched at the door to be let in. She went over to the back door and let him in, Shelia already filling his bowl with the meat she set aside for him. Standing she kissed her mate and went back to cooking as Akala pet Fenrir. The big black wolf growled softly in appreciation as Akala smiled looking at her family.  She loved the routine they had created, It had given her hope that this time would be different. She grabbed plates as Shelia stared putting the food on the table brought out Alistair's food from the refrigerator from cooling down. The stack of pancakes made her stomach growl as she grabbed her syrup mixed with blood. Grabbing the bacon and sausage she poured it over her plate saying thank you befor digging in. "You eat more like a wolf than Fenrir does." Shelia quipped as she laughed. Akala growled playfully and smirked. "Mhm, last night should have shown you how wolfish I can be." She smirked as hse grabbed her mates thigh under the table, tracing light circles on it. Shelia pressed her legs together and shook her head smiling and blushing. After eating breakfast Akala cleaned up as Shelia went to get Alistair ready to go to the babysitters. packing a lunch for him they took him next door to an elderly vampire who had offered to babysit for the princess. They knocked and she came to the door thick streaks of greying hair showed though the black strands. Grey eyes lit up as Alistair giggled. "Theres my favorite little boy! Now Akala don't rush this today, make sure everyting is how you two want it. I have the little prince." She ordered shooing them away so they could focus on the plan. Akala laughed and gave her a hug thanking her as they walked away and to her car. She had gotten it off the set of a show and fixed it up to run, she loved it the black exterior glossy like it was on the show the tan interior in tact, it even had the little details from the show still in it. Like the initials carved in the paneling underneath the leather on the back door or a toy solier in the vent. She smiled and opened the door for Shelia. After getting in herself she turned the key and listened to her car roar to life, she smiled and they took of to the wedding planners. As soon as they pulled in the planner stepped out of the building to greet them. Shelia talked to the planner describing what they needed for the various creatures that would be there. the planner assured them that they didn't need to worry and lead them inside the office. They had been over diets before bus Shelia was becoming nervous as the day approached and she wanted to be absolutely sure nothing would go horribly wrong. Akala took her hand and smiled rubbing circles on the back of her hand to calm her. Looking at the table set before them Akala raised a brow wondering how there were so many different types of cakes. After what felt like hours they finally decided on a lemon cake base with raspberry cream in between the layers. The design was simple, red roses and purple daisies wrapping around the white frosting giving it an elegant look. Shelia beamed happily that everything was coming together for them.  After taking all morning to taste cakes Akala walked out of the planners office and a smell hit her, pine and fire. She panicked and rushed Shelia to the car who had smelt it too and they took off. Shelia had tried to calm Akala down as they drove, but she was muttering to her self that he couldn't be back. Shelia worried what this would mean for them and their future because there was no way that they could all be together, in her mind at least. She hated him for the hell that Akala went through losing him, she had worked so hard to rebuild the pieces of her mate and now she felt threatened of that all being taken away. Shaking her head she decided that she woudn't allow it to happen.
