Blurb

No one expected the end of the world to begin in a greenhouse.

For years, a rare species of pitcher plant had been secretly cultivated by a group of farmers and researchers. To accelerate its growth, they fed it small amounts of human flesh obtained illegally. The experiments continued until the plants no longer depended on sunlight, water, or insects—they had developed an insatiable hunger for human meat.

Everything changed when the supply of flesh stopped.

Driven by starvation, the plants attacked their caretakers first. After consuming a victim, they released thousands of spores into the air. Wherever the spores landed, new plants rapidly grew, each inheriting the same craving for human flesh. Within days, entire towns were swallowed by forests of carnivorous plants, and humanity was pushed to the brink of extinction.

PROLOGUE
Just a normal day at Trifolium University. I am Mellisa Ace, a second-year student. Like always, my routine begins with my daily hallway patrol. "YOU better start apologizing! Do you even know who I am?!" A loud commotion can be heard from the male bathroom. I sighed; I already know who is causing the trouble again. I was about to enter the bathroom to have a talk with him. Before I could even twist the door handle, a hand grabbed my ID lace from behind, causing me to stumble. "Oof! What the h—" I said while turning around to talk to the person behind me. As I turned around, I saw Alister. "What? Missy. What are you doing here?" He spoke in that calming voice of his, enough to make anyone fall for him. "It's Luis and his crew again. I was trying to catch them in the act when you, Mr., let them get away again!" He didn't even respond to me; he just walked past me toward the bathroom and opened the door. He paused for a while before closing the door quickly, as if he had seen a ghost. I tried to read his face to know what he saw, but this guy is just very hard to read. "Don't open the door." His tone was serious as always; it sounded more like a demand than a request. I wondered what he saw. Instead, he grabbed my wrist and dragged me to the principal's office. "Whaa?- WAIT! Alister!!" I tried resisting, but he didn't let go. When we arrived at the front of the principal's office, he finally let go of me. "Stay here." He looked at me one more time before going into the office, leaving me behind. I don't understand why he reacted like that. "What the hell..." I mumbled, slightly annoyed and curious. I pressed my ear to the door, trying to catch what they were talking about, but either the door was way too thick or they were mumbling. Realizing I wouldn't be getting anything, I decided to sit on the ground, leaning against the wall. After what felt like forever, the door finally opened with the principal rushing out. He didn't even bother to look at me or at least fill me in with information. Shortly after, Mr. Run came out, followed right after by Alister, who was also walking toward the bathroom. After a few steps, he finally looked back at me. "Go back to class. Don't say a word to anyone. Do you understand?" "WHAT?! Why? What happened? Luis didn't kill anyone, right?" The suspense was killing me; why wouldn't he just tell me? What did he see? Is it drugs? Cigars? Is Luis hooking up in the bathroom? While I was lost in my thoughts, I realized Alister had already left. A part of me wanted to follow him, but then the bell rang, and I had a very important presentation in my next class, so I basically didn't have a choice
