Chapter 9

“Didn’t you hear one word of what I said, Glykia mou?” Eros asked, emerging from the bathroom with his shaving kit and a deep frown etched on his forehead. He truly did looked tired and harassed. “This is an emergency! You can take care of these little problems later...”

“I heard Eros. I just don’t buy into it! That’s all.....” Anna replied in a flat voice, knowing fully well that this will once again get her husband’s hackle’s up.

And sure enough, as soon as Eros had dumped his things on the bed, he was striding towards her with a deep scowl on his face. “What do you mean by that? Do you think I am lying about my mother being in the hospital Anna?”

“No, not you but I can’t say the same about your mother.”

If he hadn’t been sufficiently angry before, he was now! Glowering at her like a medieval king, ready to dish out the order to kill.

“Anna! You have hated my mother from the day one. You have antagonised her from the get go. But I have never said anything. You have never tried to win her approval but instead had tried your best to go against her every wish! I still said nothing!

But you must learn to draw a line somewhere, you little witch, before you try to malign my mother like that!” He was so angry, that Anna could feel the fiery waves coming off him, like huge balls of resentment.

She sighed. She had already known that telling him what she thought, Despina Kozakis was trying to do – was only going to get her in trouble with him. He hadn’t listened to her before, when they had been married. He certainly had no reason to listen to her now.

“But what if I am right? Huh?” Anna stepped forward and snatched his phone away from his hands, by which he had been trying to ring the reception for a taxi. “Tell me, what will you do if you return to Greece tomorrow morning and find her hearty and healthy going on about her daily life?”

“Anna! Give me the damned phone back! And I am not listening to your ridiculous slanders anymore.” He roared like an tiger, his eyes burning fiercely while his whole body seemed to tighten with suppressed tension.

Anna sighed and handed him the phone back.

“At least, can I call Daniel before we leave?”

“No! You can’t. He’s not going to be able to take that call anyway. He must be already on his flight to Japan.” Eros bit out, as he finished his call with the receptionist.

“Ja-Japan?”

“Yes, fidaki mou, Japan. Where I have a car manufacturing plant. Daniel will be positioned there as a senior Engineer’s assistant and will gain lots of hands on experience.”

“And now I will suggest you to go freshen up, change into something comfortable for the fourteen hour flight that we have ahead. You have ten minutes, before the taxi arrives...” And then he left, closing the door softly behind him. While Anna stood frozen at her spot.

‘Daniel was gone! Packed up and shipped off to the other side of the world, while she was going to be shipped off in yet another neat little package, straight to Greece. When will she get to see her little brother again?’ She wondered as a little sob rose in her throat.

‘Will Eros let him come to Greece sometime to visit her? After the summer is over? Or is she going to be cut off from the rest of the world for the next foreseeable future? Until such a time, when Eros had had enough of her sexually and finally decides to send her back home to Los Angeles?’

Unfortunately though, there were no answers to give and Anna could only speculate about it, while torturing herself to death.

Ten minutes later, she emerged from the bedroom wearing a comfy summer dress and found Eros waiting for her impatiently in the living space, outside. Eros said nothing but indicated towards the door, so she didn’t say anything in return either.

And soon they were in a taxi, hurtling through the empty roads to reach the airport.

Another few minutes and they were airborne....flying in style– seated in one of the most luxurious private jets that the world had ever seen. While her mind remained back in America thinking of all that she was leaving behind.
