I watched Liam sleeping next to me, our faces inches apart. It hadn’t taken long for him to doze off, but I waited until his breathing slowed before I’d rolled over to face him.
I touched his cheek lightly. I hadn’t admitted to him how scared he’d made me. The darkness inside him had grown so strong, I’d barely recognized him. And in the end, as he had held Jonathan’s life in his hands, I truly didn’t know whether or not he’d choose me.
But he had. He overcame that darkness inside him and locked it away. For now. But it would return as long as Vyken poison ran in his veins.
The cure could fix this. I wish I could help him see this, but whenever I talked about it, his mood soured. I wasn’t exactly sure why. Yes, the search for it had put my life in danger, but the risk
