Chapter Twenty Seven

As tame as it was, the darkness was teemed with desires, desires that set her on fire. The burn of the night consumed her before she could permit it to and ever so gently, it won her over with just a majestic whispering. Indulgence was the last thing she expected a monster tied to her fate to grant her but she swam in the wells of pleasure and came undone at its doing. "Come closer, let me feel all of you, I can't get enough of you." It demanded yet the very voice that shook her core, made her aware of the desperation and longing that it held.

In the moments after the stranger stated his purpose and his reason for seeking her out, Venia found herself within the crippling force of shock and confusion yet again. Yes, she had heard every word that came out of his mouth, she understood clearly what he said and what was to happen but her mind was having great difficulty fully processing the turn that her predicament had taken.
When she was forced out of her worn out bed this morning, Venia only anticipated the wrath of Slyra and an aching body for the rest of her day, she never could have thought that this will be the day she is given away to that soulless monster. The way that the news struck her was especially brutal. They were to leave in a few minutes, was she even going to be allowed a moment to say her goodbyes to her sisters? It was deeply nerve-wracking and painstakingly taunting for her to know that there was no way out of this.
In the past nine days, the princesses had had several sessions discussing all means to save her from the beast king. Bess had even came up with an elaborate yet dangerous plan on how Venia could fake her death and be released to the sea until she finds her way to a new kingdom where she'll start anew under a new identity. To satisfy the requirements of the plan, the princesses had to pull some risky moves and even betray their father. Iyene had even successfully made away with a lot of king Ian's precious silver, gold and all kinds of precious stones.
"He won't even notice such a puny amount is gone from his mountainous stack." Princess Bess shrugged it off very easily when Venia panicked and suggested the return the valuables.
She was going to need to have a way to finance herself while she establishes a new life so she can fully enjoy her freedom instead of having to labour hard just to get by and make it through the next days. The three princesses had put everything into consideration but they needed the distraction of the Imperial Games of Death in order to secure her escape. The ceremony was going to see every creature and royalty come to the grand arena in order to indulge themselves in gratuitous violence and unnecessary plunder. The ceremony was brutal in a lot of ways and the kings always found it necessary for it to be as bloody and as barbaric as possible when choosing the leader of the royal guard. The man to survive of course gained a lot, so does his family unti he faces the threat of losing it again after twenty years. With most of the guards slacking off and doing multiple shift changes, it would be easy for the princesses to escape through the back gate and even make it through the strict border hounds.
The plan actually did not seem that bad when they were polishing it up last night but now it had been foiled by the early arrival of the beast king's men. This was exactly what princess Iyene had feared would happen but after nine f*****g days without as much as a world from the beastly kingdom, Venia had adopted some defense mechanism that allowed her to let her guard down a little and actually be hopeful that all will be well. Now that she had no other choice but to leave, she felt like ripping off her own skin in her regret of being too foolish. There was no averting this disaster, no way she could subdue this hulking man and make a run for it.
He surely did not come alone.
Haryx seemed to be a character of genuine gentleness as much as his pious loyalty to his king was noticeable at the very first glance but Venia still could not feel at ease with him. Surely enough he was acting on orders and just as his king ordered him to help her leave safely, he could change his mind, he could act on his volatile temper and order Haryx to treat her like the brute he is. Haryx was a men of the beastly kingdom, surely enough he had a short, very fiery temper that she did not want to test out.
Slowly nodding her head, a much devastated Venia decided to give in to her fate and accept whatever that comes her way. The dread in her voice was unmistakable as she spoke as though she had the weight of the world on her shoulders.
"I do not have much to pack up… let me be the one to do it. There are possessions that are dear to me and cannot entrust to the care of anyone else." There was no such a possession, the only thing she hoped to gain out of being allowed to pack her own belongings was the time she'll afford to say her last words to her sisters.
She also wished to carry with her a watch she had been wearing when she transmigrated into this world because of its sentimental value; not only was it the only piece of her world she still had with her, it was given to her by her dear grandmother and it had been in the family for eight generations.
Haryx stared at her questionably but eventually curtly nodded his head.
"If you insist, my princess. However, if you do find yourself in need of assistance, do not hesitate to say so."
Venia offered him no other response and just tentatively removed herself from the floor and made way to her room. Down the hallways, a shadow persisted with her own and she realised that Haryx really did intend on following her around.
"Haryx, please, why are you following me?" Her words came out with more emotion than she would have liked.
"To ensure your safety, princess," the beastly creature only halted when she did, "if anyone is to threaten you even by as little as a bitter glare your way, I must deal with them."
Venia exhaled deeply, as much as she was grateful that he was concerned about her getting mistreated in her last minutes in this palace, she had to be strict with him as his presence was a great inconvenience.
Frowning slightly, she leaned into the rusty door to her small, musky room and took a firm stance. "This is a moment that should be private to me. I won't take long at all and I can't let you into my bedroom, it doesn't seem appropriate, you are a man and I'm a woman… I… I wouldn't want any of these pesky maids to start a rumour and get me in trouble. You'll stand guard outside and I'll scream if anything happens."
Wow, she was actually proud of herself. It was a weighty argument that Haryx could not challenge. As soon as she walked inside, Venia felt her lips twitch up slightly because at least as she had hoped; the three princesses were already in the room waiting for her.
