Chapter2

Chapter two Was I dreaming because this couldn't be really right? I didn't exactly understand what being mates meant, but I knew any connection with these two men wasn't what I would like. “What is happening? Is the end upon us? "How can a mere prisoner be mated to the Alphas?” “No, it has to be a mistake because this doesn't make any sense.” “While I agree that it doesn't make any sense, the moon goddess never makes a mistake in pairing wolves with their life partners. There must be a meaning that we cannot see just yet.” … Two women closest to me discussed among themselves and a little eavesdropping explained my unfortunate predicament. Somehow, I didn't doubt it, it was like my body was built to feel such a connection, and it made me feel whole seeing my mates. When I woke up two years ago, I knew no one but I had one enemy and that was that man, Alpha Benard. I had made it my ultimate life goal to get my revenge on him if I eventually made it out. But the old cunning bastard just had to die, and I'm left mated to his sons. I wanted nothing to do with them other than to make them suffer for their father's wickedness. “Who are you?” Keiran asked with a deep frown etched on his face. “What is your name?” Luther asked at the same time too. He mostly looked confused and in shock. I didn't know who I was anyway, so I answered Luther instead, “Athena…” The crowd began talking again with agitated voices, but I couldn't make out anything. Luther had a peculiar look on his face as he asked, “Athena as in Athena Faris, the former beta's daughter?” I looked at him unsure. This was the first thing I actually found out about myself, and I wasn't sure if I should agree with that identity in front of everyone, especially with the man's sons. Luther seemed to have noticed my hesitation because he turned and announced loudly. “Whatever this is canceled, everybody return to your homes, we'll handle this matter privately” The crowd murmured slowly, seemingly sad that they wouldn't be there to see what was going on to the end, but they still began to disperse. “What do you mean by whatever this is? "I was clearly helping you take out the trash bags of prisoners”, Keiran butted in like a stubborn child. Luther growled and fired back, “I only spoke of thoroughly investigating the prisoners to fish out those who were falsely accused by our tyrant father, and you went behind my back to lead a killing spree for all of them? How dare you, have you forgotten your place?” The crowd had stopped leaving to witness the scene and I eyed Luther, who was seething with anger. He wasn't as soft as the rumor put him, but he was more sensitive compared to the rest of the rest of his family. Either way, I still didn't trust him or anyone for that matter. The devil's blood still ran in his veins and I know it tainted whoever or whatever it touched. “No, I haven't forgotten my place as the rightful heir. "I am showing you that this pack doesn't need your ‘logical beliefs’, they need someone who can continue what my father started and lead with fear”, Keiran countered. He was seething too with anger. “I will not argue with you anymore than this. "Your protest means nothing in the face of tradition, and we have bigger problems to settle with right now” he paused and spared me a sympathetic glance that made my stomach flutter against my will, but I frowned in response. I didn't need anyone's sympathy, especially his. His father did this to me. “She? She is no problem for me. Such a filthy prisoner can never be my mate. Talk more of joint mateship with you, so I am rejecting her as a mate. "She should be with others, beheaded and sent to the underworld”, Keiran spat out. I could tell he hated my guts, and the feeling was very much mutual. “That’s enough Keiran! We are not killing our mate. "I won't say more outside, let's go in”, Luther replied with a tone of finality and suddenly took my hands and pulled me along with him to go inside the house. I looked down at our joined hands and pushed aside the tingling sweet feeling that I felt from the contact. Was this what being mates meant? I would have to be cautious about making any physical contact with them going forward. I let Luther lead me inside because, for one, I was a blank slate and had nowhere else to go and, secondly, he was my enemy's son, and he seemed to know something about my background which I desperately needed. I needed to know who exactly I was, a question that had been left unanswered for years, and set off my game plan to take my revenge on his sons for their father's sins. It is my only goal on earth now. We soon got to a large living room and I cautiously sat down, ready to bolt if the situation got sour. The room was the second I have been in after my dirty old cell and I easily got distracted seeing all the luxurious arrangements that made the room look pleasing to the eye. “I’m sorry about the chains, I'll unlock them now”. Luther approached me kindly and began freeing me from my chains. I quietly stared at him till he finished. I was too tired to speak and neither did I know what to say. Keiran, on the other hand, had reluctantly entered the room and sat far away from me, eyeing me with disgust and plain hatred. I was distracted from him by the sweet scent of food and my stomach already responded by growling before I even saw where the food was coming from. “I know you must be starving, so I sent for some food”, Luther added in concern, and a tray of food was brought in by a woman and presented before me. I eyed it with hesitation; my stomach was already eating up the scent and my mouth was seriously salivating. “Please go ahead and eat” he didn't need to tell me twice. I dived into it and after the first bite, I stuffed my face with everything. My numb taste buds felt alive again and my stomach never felt happier. I was grateful that I was given some quiet time to eat. My mates just watched me, and I was too concentrated to care about their expressions. A few minutes later, I was done and felt full for the first time ever. I could swear everything looked two times better. I would happily die without regrets after that. “Please follow the help upstairs so you can get cleaned up, get some rest, and we can talk later okay?” Luther spoke up once the empty tray was taken away. I managed to respond with a nod and followed the two waiting women up the stairs. As I was about to round a corner, I heard the loud knocking of the front door and someone said in a loud voice. A betrayer's daughter will not be welcomed in this pack and definitely not as a Luna. She has to be killed or banished.” And then a series of loud shouting followed…
