Her Return

959 Words
It had been six long years since Rufus had been without Marian. He didn't even regret his action, but he had become all alone. The woman he had originally wanted had run away, and her step sister came in her place. He became a workaholic, drowning himself completely in work so he would at least forget all the troubles he had been through. It wasn't easy, and he had to live with the pain of not living with the woman he really loved."Sir, someone is here to see you." His personal assistant told him.He looked somehow surprised; he almost never had visitors except his business associates."Who is that?""I have no idea, sir."He nodded. "Okay, I'll be there." He sighed. After some more cross-checking of his work, he stood up and headed downstairs, curious about who his visitor was.He got to the living room; he didn't see who his 'visitor' really was but saw three children running around. They were two boys and a girl.He frowned. "What is the meaning of this?" He asked them. They all stopped playing and stood looking at him."Who are you guys? What are you doing here?""Our mother brought us here." The eldest of them spoke up.He arched his brow. "I see. Why did she bring you here? Who is she?" They all shrugged. "She's our mother, alright, but we have no idea why she brought us here. She just told us to play while she went out."He held his head frustrated. Who would carry children to his house?! "Listen, kids, you are causing a nuisance here, and I don't want it. You should go outside and wait till your mother picks you up." He warned them and turned around. The children were amused and exchanged glances; they only laughed and continued their running around.Rufus turned around in disbelief; they didn't listen! He walked towards them in a fit of rage and grabbed the eldest of them. He turned him around sharply but was taken aback. Those eyes... They looked so familiar; they were like a version of himself. He blinked, lost in the child's eyes. He shook his head and turned to face the other children, who were equally staring at him. Each of their eyes looked exactly like his blueberry eyes.He let go of the child's hand and asked, "Who, who, are you guys? Where is your mother?" He asked shakily. The girl pointed to someone at the door. He slowly turned around and saw a lady standing at the door. His jaw dropped. It was Marian! There was something quite different about her—her dress, her aura, her confidence, and the way her usually fearful eyes gleamed with confidence. He stood up and stared."Surprise, surprise!" She spread her arms. The children ran to meet her, and she embraced them all."Ma-rian? How... is this possible?" He stared on in shock. She looked up at him, holding her children's hands. She walked up to him."Hello, Mr. Anderson; it's so nice to meet you again." She greeted him with a sarcastic smile. He blinked in confusion. "What's going on?""Oh? Are you still confused? You should have probably seen it yourself." Her smile disappeared. He shook his head slowly. "It... can't be."Her lips curled up into a smile. "Do you believe all that I told you all those years ago?" She smirked. He looked at the children who were staring back at him with 'his own eyes'. He gulped down nervously, "How, when did this even happen?" She looked at her kids and said, "Children, you'd like to go see the garden, right? Just go outside and check it out." They all giggled, and one after the other, they all ran out of the living room. She asked him, "So you really thought I'd sleep with someone else?" He was short on words and couldn't find an answer. He slowly shook his head, confused."Those are your children."There was a long pause—a very long and tensed one."My children? I have kids. How come?" He was still shaking in disbelief."Ugh. You still ain't going to believe me? Well, that's okay; I'm not here because of you anyway." She turned and said, "It's a good thing you divorced me. It led to what I am today.""I would have been in a cage, probably, if I hadn't divorced you." She smiled and said, "So I'm free to be the woman I want to be." She faced him with a wild grin.Rufus could see clearly that she wasn't the same at all. She had grown a lot more confident and fierce." Marian," he called. She looked at him and said, "Mmh?""Is this some kind of blackmail?"She rolled her eyes angrily and said, "I saw your reaction when you held Jonah; you were surprised... Because... he looked like you, hun? What else am I blackmailing you for?" She shrugged. He held his head, still shocked by the truth of the matter."This is so hard to believe." He muttered."You better believe it." She smirked. She turned and headed to the door. "Anyway, enjoy the rest of the day because very soon they'll become restless." She laughed and went out of the living room. She was determined to ruin his life; he had made her feel so worthless, as if she had been trash all along. Her kids came running to her and said, "Mommy, is that man really our father?" Jonah asked.Marian nodded sadly. "He was supposed to be. But unfortunately, something along the line happened." She sighed."How come he doesn't live with us?" Janet, her daughter, asked her."I'm sorry, Janet, but I can't tell you now; you won't understand."Joshua blinked. "Mommy, so we get to stay with him?" He asked. "No, I just came to pay him a visit; he doesn't need to stay with us." She came back to seek revenge.
