The crack

Sitting in the dark , damp room listening to the impossible dripping that seemed to come from nowhere as I could never find it to drink . With as long as I've been in here nothing really changes , save for my horrible state of hygiene. "How long have I been here?" My mind wondered as my eyes fell upon a sight most strange .         The wall, the smooth , cool , strong stone wall had a slight crack. "Now that wasnt there before " , I said in wonder . "How can you be sure? You might just be going mad" I answered myself , which seemed quite normal to me at this point.    Shaking my head of my thoughts, I decided to touch the new imperfection that showed itself in my prison. No doors , no locks just smooth stone, vines and darkness like dusk at all times . I slid my hand across it , feeling the jagged imperfection of the almost imperceptible crevice taking place in the wall. Curiously I picked around the edges and found them to be somewhat soft , enough to scratch small pieces of stone causing the crack to widen almost effortlessly.    As I continued to probe the small spot my mind began to swim with memories of how I ended up here . I try not to think of the past , knowing the memories cut like glass but against my will they always came flooding back. My punishment for the unspeakable crimes I've committed.  The wider the small hole began to form the more I questioned the memories crashing into me as fresh as the day they were created .
