Amber's pov
“I was being chased down by warriors and I didn't know I had breached your borders,” I explained and the Lycan on top of me transformed into a human.
“Don't lie to us. Were you sent here to get some information?” The man growled and I gulped.
“No, of course not. I'm not lying,” I pleaded with him.
“What do we do with her?” The man asked as he got off me and roughly dragged me to my feet.
“Alpha Alexander has been wanting to send a message to the rogues.” Another man said and I felt the world falling right from under me.
Alpha Alexander…the Lycan King?
Rumors of his viciousness and cruelty had spread far and wide across borders. Only a fool would think to cross him.
He was feared and respected among all the wolves. It was said that no one who ever defied him lived to tell the tale.
Yet somehow, I had landed on his borders as a rogue…
“He'll rip her apart,” the man restraining me pointed out to the others who looked indifferent.
“As he rightly should. These rogues are beginning to act a little too freely, he should get them under control as soon as possible.” The other man said and a few men bobbed their head in agreement.
“To the dungeon,” the man announced as he led the way and the man restraining me dragged me along.
“I'm not a rogue please. You have to listen to me,” I pleaded with them but they ignored me.
Fear clawed within me as the pack house came to view but rather than step through the front door, I was taken through the back until we reached a huge set of steel doors.
The doors creaked open and the men threw me into one cell.
“Next time if you are trying to spy princess, put in a little effort.” One of the men said and the others laughed as they left the dungeons.
The putrid smell of blood and sweat lingered in the air and my heart beat loudly in my chest as I hugged myself and waited.
Before long the metal door creaked open and my chest rose and fell heavily.
The moment he stepped into the cell something seemed to change. The air buzzed and I heard his footsteps approach me but I didn't dare look up.
My wolf perked up and she seemed to be trying to tell me something but I tuned her out.
My whole body shook as his shoes came into view, seconds before a large hand cupped my chin and nudged my face upwards.
My eyes instantly met with striking brown ones and I held my breath.
Never had I ever laid eyes on such a perfect being. My eyes traced his features and I noted the scar running along his cheek.
I had to resist the urge to raise my hand and caress it.
What the hell was wrong with me? This was the Lycan King for heaven sakes. He could kill me with a mere snap of his fingers.
The man easily towered over me and when my eyes met his again, it was as though there was a storm in his eyes.
His eyes flashed and his expression hardened over.
“I'm so sorry. I didn't know I had trespassed onto your borders, I- I promise I'm not a spy. It's just that I was-”
“Mate,” His deep baritone voice made a shiver run down my spine as he stared at me intently.
My eyes bulged when I slowly made sense of his words.
“What?” I whispered.
“You are my mate,” He clarified and I stumbled away from him.
My wolf leaped within me but confusion clouded my senses.
How was this even possible? Alpha Arron was my mate, not the Lycan King.
“I-i think you are mistaken.” I muttered and took a step back when he took one forward towards me.
“You think I would be mistaken?” He quirked a brow at me and my heart dropped.
I couldn't make him angry, I needed to be in his good graces if I had any hope of leaving this place alive.
“I-i don't know but I don't think-” I tried again but he cut me off.
“You are my mate.” He announced and in a second he was standing before me.
My heart hammered loudly against my ribcage as I remained silent and waited for what he would do next.
How could I possibly be his mate?
If Alpha Arron had sent warriors to kill me when he found out I was his mate then what would the ruthless Lycan King do? A shudder ran through me at the thought.
“Please don't kill me,” I whispered as a traitorous tear slid down my face.
Alpha Alexander's eyes followed the tear and he lifted his hand and gently swiped the tear away from my face.
My whole body buzzed with an awareness of him and the close proximity in which we stood.
“Why were you on my borders?” He asked calmly.
“I- I was being chased.” I revealed and his stormy brown eyes searched my face for a moment.
“What is your name?” He asked.
“Amber,” I muttered.
“Do you know what we do to trespassers Amber?” A shiver ran down my spine at the sound of my name on his lips.
Focus, Amber!
“We lock them in the dungeons for life,” he revealed when I remained silent.
“And do you know what we do to rogues who tresspass?” he continued and I shook my head.
“We drag them across the pack for all to see and burn them at the stakes,” he announced and my heart dropped.
Was that my fate? I was going to be embarrassed and killed in the presence of strangers?
“But I'll give you a chance out. You can become my breeder and give me the heir to my throne or you can suffer the same fate as all the other rogues.” Alpha Alexander proposed and everything around me stilled.
