Alexander's pov
“You did what?” Jason, my beta stared at me with disbelief.
I ignored him as I stared out the window and swirled the whiskey in my glass.
“Alex, speak to me. You can't be serious,” he commented as he leaned against the door and I shrugged
“I asked her to be my breeder.” I repeated as I turned back to face him.
“And by ask, you mean you told her to choose between that and her life?” Jason quirked a brow at me and I drained the last drops of whiskey in my glass, enjoying the familiar burn flowing down my throat.
“It doesn't matter anyways because she said she'd rather die.” I chuckled as I walked over to my wine cabinet.
My mind strayed to the little woman and I couldn't help the small smile which tugged at my lips. I had seen the fear in her eyes yet she had still chosen to die rather than become my breeder.
A part of my pride was hurt but it didn't matter because at the end of the day she was going to be my breeder.
“So will you?” Jason pulled me out of my thoughts.
“Will I what?” I asked calmly.
“Are you going to kill her?” He asked impatiently and I shook my head.
“She is my mate.” I announced and Jason went deadly still.
“What do you mean?” He asked slowly.
“Exactly what I said. The woman is my mate,” I took a swing of my drink directly from the bottle as I waited for Jason's outburst.
“You didn't think to tell me about this until now?” Jason scowled at me and I shrugged.
“It's not a big deal, I -”
“It's not a big deal? You just found the woman fated to you by the moon goddess and you think it's not a big deal?” Jason cut me off.
“It's not.” I insisted.
“What good is having a mate who doesn't feel your bond and whom, ultimately, you can't be with?” I asked and Jason's shoulders immediately slacked as realization dawned on his features.
“She doesn't feel your bond?” Jason asked and I growled at the almost pitiful look I glimpsed in his eyes.
I didn't need or want him feeling sorry for me. Maybe it was better this way, at least it would be easier staying away from her, fighting the pull I felt towards her when it was one-sided.
“i thought you would never find your mate,” Jason murmured.
“So did I,” I replied as something twitched in my jaw.
“I'm going to pay the seer a visit.” I announced and without waiting for Jason's response, I walked out of the room.
“I've been wondering when you would come,” the old man offered me a lazy grin as I stepped into his cottage.
“I take it you already know?” I asked and he hummed in response.
“What am I expected to do now? The curse said I can't be tied to anyone. I can't make her my mate or Luna,” I stared and the seer remained silent for a moment.
“It seems fate has more in store for you than we thought,” he finally commented.
“What could fate possibly have in store for me when I can't mate with my mate?” Anger simmered within me.
Before the seer could respond, the door to the cottage burst open and Jason stared at me cautiously.
“What is it?” I asked as my lips turned downwards.
“I think you need to come down to the dungeon,” Jason informed me and my wolf immediately turned alert within me.
Without another word to either man, I sprinted towards the dungeons.
The dungeon doors creaked open and my eyes darted around the cell, looking for my mate.
The metallic smell of fresh blood filled the air and my wolf growled within me.
A whimper in a corner drew my attention and I instantly stilled as my eyes landed on my mate who was hurdled up at one corner of the cell.
“The rogue was talking nonsense Alpha. We decided to teach her a little lesson,” one of the guards informed me and the others laughed around me.
Anger bubbled within me and all I could see was red.
“You dared touch my mate?” I growled as I turned to the men and their eyes bulged at my words.
“Your- your-” the man stuttered and before he could regain his ability to speak I lunged at him. My fists met with his face and I enjoyed the crunch of his nose under my fingers.
“Alex no,” Jason pulled me away from the man and inserted himself in-between us
“Get out of my way,” I growled as my eyes flashed and I looked over Jason's shoulders to the man who was holding onto his bleeding nose.
“Get out, all of you.” Jason announced and the men scrambled away.
Fucking cowards!
“You need to get yourself under control Alex.” Jason said as he approached me.
“They hurt her,” I gritted out.
They hurt my mate and I was going to make them pay with their lives.
I ignored Jason and pulled open Amber's cell and slowly approached her.
“Stay away from me,” she whimpered in a small, vulnerable voice as she tried to move away from me but she was already against the wall.
“I'm not going to hurt you,” I assured her as calmly as I could possibly manage.
When she remained silent, I gently scooped her into my arms and carried her out of the dungeon.
My wolf nudged within me, fighting for control but I tuned him out as all he wanted to do was mark her.
“It wasn't anything serious. I applied some salve to her wounds and her wolf should be able to speed up her healing.” The pack doctor told me just as Amber's eyes fluttered open and she stared at me with an unknown emotion.
“Yes,” she whispered and my brows scrunched in confusion.
“I'll be your breeder,” she clarified.
