The small apartment was brightened by sunlight shining in through a window that did not yet have curtains. Grizea was no longer in her neatly arranged bed. The girl was already sitting at the desk with her back straight. She was quiet in front of the computer screen, which displayed the webpage where she had published her writings for several years.
A small black cat sat comfortably in Grizea's lap with his eyes closed, allowing her to pet him repeatedly as if he was used to it.
Grizea blinked a few times. She had been awake for over two hours before the sun came up, and she'd just finished the first draft of her two daily chapters.
She has made it a habit to simply switch on her computer and write when she wakes up long before the sun rises, she will stop writing after completing a messy draft for her two daily chapters before staring at the computer screen in a daze until her room brightened as if telling her to get ready to start her day with breakfast before returning to sleep until noon.
Grizea glanced at the time in the lower right corner of her computer screen, which showed 5:45 A.M., before she finally got up from her chair and went to the kitchen to prepare herself a cup of coffee with milk and strawberry jam sandwich.
While waiting for the water to boil, Grizea checked her food stock in the refrigerator and kitchen cabinet, which was enough for two more days before she needed to go grocery shopping.
Meow!
The small black cat circles Grizea's feet a few times. He continued to purr until she leaned in and took the cat in her arms.
"Are you hungry already, Lil'Black?" Grizea's gaze was drawn to the cat's huge gray eyes. Grizea's face lit up with a small smile as he meowed again, this time sorrowfully. "Please be patient."
Several unexpected events have happened since her move, one of which is the appearance of the small black cat.
Grizea found an abandoned cat in a cardboard box among the trash in front of her building. She took the terrified cat in her arms and carried it home without hesitation. Fortunately, the apartment allows cats and dogs as long as they don't bother the other tenants.
Grizea's days have been occupied with Lil'Black since then, and she no longer feels too lonely to go through her dull life.
Grizea pours lil'black's special milk into a bowl and places it in front of the cat, who downs his drink quickly. She then pushes the milk can into the trash can, which is nearly full.
"I think I need to go grocery shopping today, lil'black." Grizea turned off the gas stove and poured boiling water into her coffee cup, which was already half-filled with instant coffee, before adding milk and sugar and assembling her strawberry jam sandwich.
She then grumbled, "I still have to take you to the vet."
Grizea returns to her computer desk with a plate of sandwiches and a glass of iced milk coffee. She then moves her cursor across the web page, looking for stories she hasn't yet finished reading.
With one hand holding the sandwich, the other hand kept moving the cursor. Grizea's corner lips raised when she spotted the word 'completed' in the upper corner of the book cover image she is currently reading.
When she wasn't writing, she would only read or watch movies. Today Grizea is eager to read, as well as looking for inspiration for her next story.
Grizea can spend hours in front of her computer, especially when she's on a deadline, and then she'll forget to sleep or eat for the entire day. Which isn't a good thing to do, especially because she's been living alone for the previous two years, with no relatives or friends knowing where she is.
It's been two years since she lost contact with her friends from the orphanage, Grizea wasn't ready to meet them after disappearing on them that year. They hadn't seen each other in years. She also didn't want to go with her father's family when they found her, which was one of the reasons Grizea moved a month ago to her new small apartment.
Grizea shut off her computer at seven o'clock in the morning and carried her empty plate and glass to the sink, where she didn't bother to clean it right away. She then cast a glimpse at the lil'black dozing on the sunshine spot on her bed.
Grizea switched her attention to the unopened boxes stacked in the corner of her room, recalling that securing the bed and putting together her computer desk were her top priorities at the beginning.
It had been a month without her realizing it, and her apartment was still stacked with boxes.
Grizea examined the stack of cardboard boxes and decided to begin unpacking everything she would need to make her home more cozy.
She started with two boxes and one large suitcase containing all her clothes that were open but had not yet been moved to her wardrobe. Sweaters, jackets, t-shirts, jeans, hoodies, shirts, socks… it didn't take long for everything to be neatly arranged in the large wardrobe.
Grizea then proceeded to open three boxes of books. She began categorizing the books she still intended to read and donating the others to the city's library later.
The apartment this time was smaller than her last one. Grizea didn't like her living quarters to be too crowded with unnecessary things, but she also didn't want to rent a bigger apartment to save money. The girl even offered some of her kitchen items to the former landlord before she left the previous apartment.
Grizea was getting a little hot. She stretched her numb legs and slowly stood up from the floor, carefully walking over the books scattered on the floor to open the windows and allow the early breeze to fill her apartment with the distinctive smell of the sea.
The girl even made sure to put up a screen to keep the flies out and Lil 'black from jumping out the window.
A cold breeze blew across her face. Several families were seen enjoying their morning time together on the beach opposite Grizea's apartment. The girl smiled bitterly, diverted her attention, and went back to do her cleaning.
Bookshelves have been assembled and stand firmly beside her desk after a couple of hours, with books neatly lined up to fill the shelves.
Not long after that, the kitchen cabinet is packed with cooking utensils, while the trash can is overflowing with expired foods.
Cardboard boxes are neatly folded on top of the wardrobe, suitcases containing unnecessary items lie under the mattress.
The sound of the washing machine could be heard in the bathroom, and soon the mattress was filled with clean folded clothes to be put into her wardrobe.
Near the door is a box of books to be donated, along with several plastic bags filled with trash that must be thrown away soon.
Grizea's final cleaning tasks included sweeping and mopping her apartment.
It took over seven hours to do all of this, including when she was distracted by various things, such as completing her two chapters a day.
Grizea laid on her soft bed, and Lil'black rolled over onto his stomach next to her and dozed off again. She, too, closed her eyes and caressed Lil'black tenderly. "I still need to take you to the vet..." Grizea yawned before finally getting the rest she needed.
