The mission Dru had put them on was taking longer than Jake had figured. He was frustrated, and more importantly his bear was agitated and aggressive. As much as Jake wanted to find the assholes responsible for the attempted murder of a child, he couldn’t help but constantly be worried about Stephanie.
The perp had gone completely silent. There had been no known contact since the text regarding Lucy. Mike seemed annoyed with Jake’s constant texts requesting updates. Jake couldn’t ask Stephanie though because any mention of the situation made her closed off and edgy. He could tell she didn’t like being left under Mike’s protection. To her knowledge, Mike had zero business being a bodyguard.
