The Night that Changed Everything (Prologue)
"Guys, look," 16-year-old Braxton said to his friends, "it's that haunted house I told you guys about." Braxton faced his friends, smiling. The two other boys looked at each other with uncertainty. Braxton took off towards the front door of the creepy-looking house. The wooden steps to the porch creaked as he stepped on them. Braxton turned the doorknob and wasn't surprised to see it unlocked. "Bradley, Max," the daring teen called out to his friends, "get your asses over here!" Bradley and Max slowly made their way toward their friend. The two hesitantly made their way up the creaky porch steps. Something inside them was telling them to turn around and never come back. However, Braxton wouldn't stop talking about the damn house for the past three weeks. He'd told his friends that they had to check it out to see if it was indeed haunted. Bradley and Max were sure the house was haunted by looks alone. "Braxy," Max stuttered nervously, "I don't know about this. I think this is a bad idea." "Oh, come on," Braxton exaggerated, "don't be such a wuss. Come on!" Max looked at Bradley, who shrugged his shoulders. He didn't want to do it either. Sure the house did interest him, but not to the point of wanting to go inside it and look around. Every time he skateboarded past it, he'd always felt bad vibes. Bradley sighed before following Braxton up the stairs. "Bradley," Max called out. "Let's just do it, Max," Bradley said, "the sooner we do this, the sooner he'll finally stop talking about it." Max groaned before shuffling towards his friends. The three teens made their way through the front door, and soon all three boys were in the house. Dust and cobwebs covered the place, making it somewhat hard to breathe. The boys stood in silence for five minutes as they looked around the house, its creepiness never changing. "Okay, we saw the house," Max spoke up, "can we go now?" "Nope," said Braxton, popping the p. Bradley and Max rolled their eyes as they followed Braxton to what seemed to be the living room. "Okay," the teen said, "let me tell you the background of this house." Braxton said the city took down a graveyard so builders could build the house. He told them that the house had many murders taken place. In the middle of the story, there was a loud bang causing all three boys to jump. "What the hell was that," Bradley asked Braxton. Before Braxton could answer, there was another loud bang. This time, it sounded like it came from the living room. "This is BS," Max said as he stood up from the dusty couch, he was sitting on, "I'm going home." He went to open the front door but found it locked. He turned the lock and tried opening the door, but it still wouldn't budge. "Braxton, open the door," Max said, annoyed. "I didn't do anything," Braxton said in defense. "Braxton," Max raised his voice, "I'm not kidding. Open the do-" A cool breeze near his neck interrupted Max. He felt it rush past him before he was suddenly jerked back. Max screamed as Braxton and Bradley cursed. The two boys stood in shock as the invisible force pulled max. Max dropped to the floor, landing roughly. The boy desperately tried to run to his friends but was shoved to the ground by an invisible force. Max tried to get up, but it felt like bricks were on top of him. Max's screams and cries for help cut off as his neck snapped to the side. The sickening c***k echoed in the ears of his friends as tears streamed down their faces. Bradley and Braxton could not look away as their fear-filled eyes were glued onto Max's dead body. "What the fu-," Bradley began before he, too, was violently shoved to the ground. Braxton tried to grab his friend. He could grab ahold of the screaming boy for a split second before another force jerked Braxton against the wall. He tried to move but was stuck to the wall, forced to watch Bradley scream for help. Braxton screamed and thrashed, trying to rid himself of whatever held him against the wall. The invisible force yanked Bradley up to the second floor before dropping him violently down the stairs. When Bradley landed, Braxton fell to the ground. "f**k, f**k, f**k," Braxton cursed. The boy frantically began crawling towards Bradley to see if the boy was still alive. Before Braxton could reach his friend, the house started to shake violently. The violence stopped Braxton in his tracks, and he began screaming. "I'm sorry," he screamed, "I'm sorry!" The shaking didn't stop. Instead, it seemed as if it intensified. Braxton shakingly retrieved his phone that had fallen onto the ground and called 911. He tried to speak to the operator, but all he could say was the house's address. Braxton curled up in the corner and sobbed. "Stop," he screamed, "please stop!" He grew unaware that the house had stopped its vicious attack. He grew unaware of the sirens growing closer and the police officers trying to calm down. "Hey, hey," a voice soothed, "it's okay, it's okay." Braxton could hear the voice but couldn't register it. His eyes wandered frantically before they landed on the bodies of his friends. Braxton stared in shock as paramedics lifted Max and Bradley onto stretchers. Braxton tried to speak, but a pounding migraine stopped him. The pain from it caused him to let out a blood-curdling scream. Voices continued to try and calm him but to no avail. He thrashed against the hands that touched him. No matter what, Braxton continued to scream. He continued to cry until it hurt his throat. It felt as if his lungs were running out of air. He wanted to stop screaming, but he couldn't. The screaming only stopped when blackness consumed the boy, leaving him with nightmares that would never leave him.
