Chapter 4

Since Sophia wanted to prove herself, then let’s see what she was truly capable of. After finishing all of that, I left the company. But just as I was about to start the car, a figure suddenly rushed toward me at full speed. The car door was yanked open violently as Lucas grabbed my throat with bloodshot eyes. "How could you be such a monster?! You knew she was allergic to milk, yet you deliberately poured it into her drink! Were you trying to kill her?!" My face turned red from suffocation as I stared at Lucas' furious expression. I slapped him across the face. Both angry and wronged, I shouted, "I never bought any milk at all! Sophia is framing me!" Lucas froze for a moment, the strength in his grip loosening slightly. But the next second, Sophia, who had chased after him, burst into tears. Pointing at the red rashes on her face and arms, she sobbed uncontrollably. "What do you mean by this? Do you think I would joke about my own life?!" Her voice was shrill, as though I had driven her into a corner. Suddenly, no one knew where she pulled a knife from. Raising it high, she moved to stab it into her own neck. Lucas' eyes widened in terror. He rushed forward and snatched the knife away, then looked at me with undisguised disgust. "Apologize right now!" "I did nothing wrong. Why should I apologize?" I pulled open the car door, trying to get inside, but Lucas charged at me like a violent storm. He forcefully pressed me down, trying to make me kneel little by little. The entrance was crowded with employees, their faces filled with shock, pity, or contempt. After being forced to kneel like this, how could I ever keep my place in the company? For Sophia’s sake, he was actually trying to destroy me. My eyes burned with tears, yet I suddenly laughed. Enduring the pain of being restrained, I slowly said, "Let me go. I’ll apologize to her. There’s a gift in the trunk. Help me bring it to her." Lucas' expression eased slightly. He released me and walked toward the trunk. "It’s good that you’re willing to admit your mistake. As long as you behave obediently, everything can still be discussed." As he spoke, he took out the black box. For some reason, he suddenly caught the horrifying scent of blood. Lucas frowned, unease creeping into his voice. "What is this? Why does it smell so strange?" I looked at him coldly, though my heartbeat surged wildly with excitement. Lucas glanced at me, as though something suddenly flashed through his mind. He abruptly lowered his head. The moment he opened the box, his eyes widened as though he had seen a ghost itself.
