Later that day, the department meeting began. Dahyun entered the meeting room and noticed that a pretty girl from the CEO’s office sitting at a chair near the department head’s chair, near the CEO’s main seat.
Dahyun go and sat at her chair next to a
colleague.
Dahyun thought—“Is she his friend However why would anyone want to be his friend as he is so rude?”
As Dahyun lost in her thoughts, the colleague next to her said softly—“Excuse me, stand.”
Dahyun came back to reality, realized that the CEO came and stood up quickly.
The CEO walked in, calm and confident,
still wearing that black mask.
(The meeting began)
CEO said expression-less—“Good Morning, everyone.”
“Yesterday, I assigned a file with one-week deadline. And that file was submitted to me within one night. Completed! Perfectly!”
Head of Department surprisingly—“One night? Who did? That’s really praising work.”
CEO said—“Yes, Miss Lee did it.”
“You completed the entire file with accuracy.
The analysis was clean and structure met the company’s standards. That’s great, Miss Lee.”
(The meeting room filled with whispers)
Whispers—
“Wow!! She did it in just one night.”
“Yeah, she is really hardworking.”
“She deserves that praise.”
“She is pretty and smart also.”
Miss Lee smiled—“Thank you, sir.”
(Dahyun tried to control her expression, want toreveal truth but stay silent. She stares the CEO angrily.)
Dahyun thought—“Why the hell she get praised? I do that work, my so hardwork and still I get nothing, not even a small gesture of praise.”
Head of Department smiled—“That’s impressive, Miss Lee.”
CEO continues—“Let’s move on to the next agenda.”
(Thus the meeting continues.)
When the meeting ended, the CEO’s assistant said to Dahyun—“Stay here until everyone leaves.”
Dahyun’s colleague whispers—“Miss, excuse me maam, the meeting is over. Let’s go.”
Dahyun calmly—“I’m coming. You go first.”
Colleague replied—“Okay!”
(Everyone leaves)
Then CEO came to her, said—“If you want to leave this job, you can. Miss Kim Dahyun or I can say coffee girl!”
Dahyun stood, crossed her arms and boldly replied—“I will not leave this job. Never let you win over me. And I better to say, Miss Kim not the coffee girl, understood, Mr. CEO or the devil in a suit.”
(Dahyun leaves the meeting room)
(CEO expression-less, leaves the meeting room just after her)
Dahyun approached to that colleague who helped her during the meeting (standing near the canteen).
Dahyun smiled—“Hey, thank you for earlier, in the meeting room.”
Colleague said—“Huh? Oh, don’t mention it. It was nothing.”
Dahyun replied—“It might be nothing for you but to me, it meant a lot. I sometimes feel so tired in all of this.”
Colleague smiled—“Well, that’s normal for the first few weeks. Everyone starts somewhere, just some start late and some early, but everything efforts counts. It just needs patience and hardwork.”
Dahyun smiled with a relief—“Yeah, I guess. By the way, I don’t even know your name.”
Colleague said—“Oh, right. I’m Min Jae, Baek Min Jae. And you?”
Dahyun said—“I’m Kim Dahyun. You can just call me Dahyun.”
Min Jae said—“Nice to meet you, Dahyun.”
Dahyun replied—“Nice to meet you too, Min Jae.”
(Min Jae smiles)
Min Jae questioned—“You look like you have not eaten anything all day?”
Dahyun replied—“Yes, I didn’t even have breakfast this morning. Although thanks for… you know, saving me there in the meeting.”
Min Jae said—“Don’t make it a big deal.”
Dahyun replied—“But still I should say it, so thank you again, Baek Min Jae.”
Min Jae replied—“You’re welcome. Now go grab some food before you collapse.”
Dahyun replied—“I will.”
Min Jae said –“Okay, don’t worry too much. You are just an intern.”
Dahyun smiled—“Thanks… I really feel so much lighter now, talking to someone like you.”
Min Jae smiles softly—“No problem. You can talk to me anytime you feel heavy.”
Dahyun smiles—“Okay…”
Min Jae asked—“Can we share our numbers?”
(Dahyun gave him her phone no. and took his phone no.)
Dahyun said—“Alright, then I’m heading out. See you tomorrow, Min Jae.”
Min Jae replied—“Yeah, see you Dahyun.”
(Finally, this is the time to leave. After all the tired work day, Dahyun pack up and leaves at time and arrived to her apartment, saw Su-Min scrolling on her phone, on the sofa.)
Su-min said—“Oh! Nice. You arrived home on time.”
Dahyun sat on sofa—“Yeah.”
Su-min asked—“How was the day? You look exhausted.”
Dahyun replied—“Don’t even ask. I didn’t even have breakfast or lunch.”
Su-min asked—“What? You didn’t eat? I told you to eat something. You never listen to me.”
Dahyun said—“And it’s nothing. You know, that huge file I worked all night on… it belonged to a girl. Her name is Miss Lee. And I think she is little close to the CEO. He even praised her during the meeting. Not even looked at me. After the meeting, his assistant told me to wait until everyone leaves. Then I waited and when everyone leaves left, the CEO came to me and said you can leave this job and I replied, I would never let him win.”
Su-min praises—“That’s my girl.”
Dahyun said—“And I also replied that two seniors, Miss Shin Yuna and Miss Han Sojin, their face turned pale. Haha!! It’s so funny to shut their mouth.”
Su-min smiles—“Wonderful, Dahyun. You did it perfectly. They must feel embarrassed.”
Dahyun smiles—“Well at least someone helped me during the meeting. He is really nice.”
Su-min teases—“Oh! Who is he?”
Dahyun chuckles—“Baek Min Jae, the guy who helped me.”
Su-min teases—“Hmmm… Baek Min Jae, huh? Interesting. He’s nice then, I see.”
Dahyun rolls eyes—“Don’t make it a big deal. It’s just… work stuff.”
Su-min said—“Okay, now go eat something.”
Dahyun said—“Let’s have a dinner now, then I will sleep.”
Su-min said—“Okay, I already prepared.”
(They had dinner and Dahyun went to sleep finally.)
