Chapter1
Vivian’s POV
I, Vivian Lotus, met Kyle Vespertine four years ago.
“I shall marry you off to the Vespertine family." My father stroked his chin, clutching the papers tight. He didn’t lift up his gaze to look at me.
Has he finally got mad? Maybe he has. If he hadn't, he wouldn't talk of a marriage alliance so lightly.
The Vespertine is a distant relative to Lotus.
The head of the Vespertine family had held grudges against Lotus for generations. It is well known that my father was the one who plotted the demise of Vespertine. In a single night of bloodshed, the head of the family and Alaric Vespertine, the heir of Vespertine, were eliminated.
Leaving the young fourteen-year-old Kyle Vespertine as the only survivor to continue the line, that was ten years ago..
Being the young head. He was isolated by high society, leaving him in debt. Everyone withdrew from supporting Vespertine, but Kyle didn’t let the legacy end. He made sure Vespertine stood again in its glory, but what's glory without connection?
How could my father?...
But at the same time. I am not surprised. My father abandoned humanity long ago for his greed.
Is it possible the problem Kyle faces with his company is because of Lotus?
How could my father think of having me, a Lotus—his flash and blood—marry Kyle Vespertine, the victim of his plot and greed?
“Kyle has been a person who is difficult to manipulate,” my father sighed deeply, taking out his cigar and taking a long drag. “However, lately he seems to be in desperate need of support. I cannot miss this chance.”
He finally looked at me, his eyes sharpened with the familiar greed I have come to never underestimate. I gulp in nervousness, still standing, still lowering my head.
“Through this marriage he will receive financial support from Lotus. And I…” he pauses for a long time before his voice turns ice, “I will finally have the opportunity to swallow Vespertine as a whole.”
“He may resist at first, but he'll eventually submit to me. After I became his father-in-law.”
“Starting from today, you’ll learn to be a true Lotus and be trained to become not only just Kyle’s wife but also a spy in Vespertine." His voice dripped with venom. “You should be capable of doing at least that much. No matter how utterly incompetent you are to be my daughter, be grateful I took you away from your w***e of a mother.”
“Yes, Father," I said softly, but my hands clenched tight, restraining the fury that has built inside me for years.
"Good." He walked up to me, his footsteps heavy on the polished floor of his office. He stood before me and lifted my face, boring into my eyes as if taking away my soul. “You have your mother's eyes, a rare turquoise blue.”
His thumb rubbed against my skin. “Sadly, you killed that beautiful woman with your birth. But how can I, as your father, abandon you, my dear Vivian?”
He leaned down, pressing his lips on my forehead; a sickening feeling clawed in me. This wasn’t love; this was ownership.
“You may leave, my jewel. Rest now, the training will start at sharp evening.”
“Yes, Father."
Just as he stepped back. My stiff legs could finally mobilize. I took slow steps, afraid I would make any sound and change his mind.
He chuckled mockingly. I can hear him chuckle, “Even someone like you, a bastard, has its uses.”
I didn’t turn back. I didn’t stop walking until I exited his studies.

“Wrong again,” the tutor sighed, looking at me as I attempted to use the spy devices. She looked at me with contempt. “Utterly hopeless.”
BANG!!
I flinched, the sharp sound of the door slam open piercing the oppressive silence that had settled in the room.
“Vivian,” Kian pants, his eyes wild and appearance disheveled from running.
“You,” he sharply accused the tutor of having to step in.
“Mr. Lotus, calm down.”
Kian’s fury boiled over. Before I could process what was happening. He lunged towards the tutor and pulled her hair.
She whimpered in pain. I gasped, dropping the device in my hands.
“Don’t you f*****g dare come between me and my sister, you filthy whore." He pushed her away; she stumbled to the floor with a loud thud.
Her body trembles, but she manages to stand up and leave the room.
